Have you noticed how every boss has a weakness?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 9:21 am

Last night I was getting owned over and over again by an Orc boss in plate armor with an enchanted Elvish battleaxe.

He was quite litterally whupping my ar$e.

Nothing in my arsenal could even dent him and I am level 27.

Two swings of his axe and my head was coming off my shoulders.

He had a couple of weakspots but shooting him in the face just resulted in my arrows bouncing of his helmet with a donk.

Anyway, I noticed a load of boulders and climbed up them to get away from him and thought HA! I'll work on you from up here, but his AI took him off to a place I could not reach him from.

Very clever.

So I randomly tried stuff until I counjered up a Fire Atronach at which point the Orc boss comes out to engage it in mortal combat sorry kombat. The Atronach started to launch fire at him and he just blocked, didn't attack and just sat there until the flames killed him off.

I have found that a number of bosses are like that, you just have to find the right way of despatching them.

Its a great feature because no matter how hard something is, there is always a way!

Good job Beth! x

You just won in the most humiliating way possible: Artificial Stupidity.

I find that every boss succumbs to Fus Ro Dah and a good amount of Dual Wield Power Attack

...if I haven't succumbed to their scaling magics first

Actually, I make use of traps all the time, especially with my thief. I pay attention to the ground, so when I get caught, and they give chase, I will trigger traps on purpose to take them out. Nothing beats getting caught, standing back and manually trigging a tripwire at the right time, and having that lovely WHAM of the spiked door to the enemy's face fix the situation for you.

If you have a character who is literally build around avoiding combat, keeping an eye on these traps and deriving what they trigger becomes pretty important for those times you screw up. Also, it's not always artificial stupidity - how many times did you walk up and OH GOD BOULDERS EVERYWHERE?

My only gripe is that I can't set these up myself!

Going down a tower, see people see me and come up to me, so I push the cart next to me. Rocks fall, everyone dies, and I take pride in that I still haven't leveled a single weapon skill.

To me it seems like it's an AI bug..........

But if you say it is a feature then so be it.

Well, it's often not buggy AI, especially if you fall for it just as often. And you can't tell me you haven't, especially if you're in mid-combat when it happens.

Now, some things are. My mage sneak sniped her way into the Archmaster position. Dragon priest can bring me to 5 HP in one shot. So what do I do? Take a page from my thief - open door, FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE DIE DIE DIE shut door, run the hell away, sneak, wait for eye to disappear, go back, wait for him to walk into line of sight again, continue cheese.
