Have you realised quest markers are probably out?

Be nice to have an option to turn off the compass.

I think there should be no onscreen markers. The compass only shows you what direction you're facing (I know it still shows ruins and stuff). If the quest giver knows the location of the destination, by all means put a Mark on the map. If he know the directions within a ruin, by all means note them down and add a marker to the interior map. If the quest giver doesn't know then there should be no marker.

Basically this. I'm also all for 'vicinity' marks on the map when they don't exactly know; map markers you place yourself (as is currently allowed) and locations that you have visited being marked on your own map.

Todd confirmed the quest markers in this interview.

http://www.nowgamer.com/features/1316/elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-bethesda-interview?o=2#listing

"With radiant story we’re not trying to guide you, just make sure you’re picking up things you haven’t already done. It has the same gameflow of our pervious stuff so we have these objectives and we nudge you to them but really, we use the compass for that."

He doesn't say, however, if you can turn it off or not.

I don't mind quest markers if they make sense. E.g. why couldn't a quest giver just mark the cave he wants me to go to on my map? But he really can't mark the exact place inside the cave, of course.
And I don't think that quest givers will guide us every time, that would be simply ridiculous. And, even in this quest it was not the person that gave us the quest AFAIR.
So I guess that markers are still in, but they are not that annoying.

Dovakiin: Hello Farmer Ted!
Farmer Ted: Hello Dov- what is that?
Dovakiin: What is what?
Farmer Ted: What is that thing on your head?
Dovakiin: Oh, this? The result of my genius! I found this magic compass that points where I want to go, however I got tired of having to take it out of the pouch and look at it whenever I needed to check my course so I nailed it to my skull. Now it always hangs down into my line of sight allowing me to always know what direction I'm headed!
Farmer Ted: Looks... painful. Wouldn't driving a nail into your head cause problems?
Dovakiin: Hello Farmer Ted!

Hahaha, excellent.
