I haven't come to a conclusion

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 1:42 pm

Ok so looking at it, I am thinking of buying a PS3 and selling my Xbox 360.

reasons why I want PS3:

  • Free online
  • Blue ray Player
  • Almost all games are available on PS3 that I like on 360
  • PS3 has better graphics.

reasons why I want my 360-

  • I really like the Gears of War series
  • The majority of my friends have a 360

I'm still not sure what I want to do yet. I mean I like having friends on Xbox live, but I never get on because I don't like paying $60 a year for it. Does anyone know if Sony is going to start charging for psn soon? Also I do like the Gears of War Series, but there are so many better games that are available for both consoles. Does every PS3 come with a Blue ray Player or do you have to pay extra for that? I need your help!

If you don't use the online feature, then your friends really don't factor into it really. I doubt Sony will charge for PSN its one of their big strongcards against the Xbox.

very true. and besides come to think of it, I only played with one friend. all the others were never on. probably for the same reason I haven't been.

ok I will add that to my tally. thanks!

Granted, I'm no Xbox 360 fan, but $60 a year isn't that much. If you like the games and like playing with friends, then come up with the $60. You're not going to get the same value selling the Xbox 360 due to depreciation, so you'll wind up having far less cash plus forking over more cash for a console, plus more cash for games and accessories. Not worth it unless you're in my shoes and just want to ditch consoles altogether.

Once the PSN comes back up, I doubt Sony will charge for it. As for Blu-Ray, no, it doesn't cost extra. A Blu-Ray format is a standard feature for PS3s. The PS3 couldn't play PS3 games without it as all PS3 games utilize the Blu-Ray format.

makes sense.

also though I am a guy that plays a game once, then never plays it again. and I am selling it for $70 to my girlfriend's little brother once he can come up with the money. I rarely play it, and a big reason I am thinking of getting the PS3 is for online for Netflix and stuff like that.

but you points have been very duly noted. just thinking out loud.

so if you are ditching consoles, does that mean you are using only a PC? Comparing Consoles to Pc What would be the difference of getting a new PC to the consoles? I already have a macbook, so I am set on laptops.

You can get Netflix on the 360, my best friend has it. I don't even think you need gold to access it, it's just a stand-alone service you can buy(I think).

I'm a 360 user and I vote that you go with PS3 despite the recent PSN debacle.

I wish I had spent my money on a PS3.

I sold my PS3 like 2 years ago since I stopped using it -- it was nice playing games in 1080p for a while, especially RE5 and GTA4. My wife has a Wii with games but packed away and she's trying to sell that. We don't really use consoles, have 2 desktops and 3 laptops.

I primarily use desktop PC for games and TV for movies so I would only recommend going my route under the same conditions. Not everyone is the same so if you really do use and play a console heavily, stick to it. A console plus at least several games and accessories will run you some $300 - $500 depending on what you get and what condition. That's already a good chunk into a new PC. So really it's just depending on what you prefer, and I'd only recommend choosing depending on which you do most/more of. PC also requires a bit of upkeep unlike a console, so if you were debating about selling the Xbox 360 over $60, I'm not sure if you have the income to buy and take care of a PC.

No you can't. I have tried, and I can't get Netflix without gold.

I think they have rehab for that.

but ok thanks! I bought my 360 awhile ago, so it's not like I just bought it and dont have any money now.

hmm.. ok.

I am a heavy mac user because of college and what I want to go into as a profession. And all though I like the games available on PC, I like being able to kick back on my couch and play a game rather then being up close and personal with the monitor screen. There is just something about that comfort... aha

oooo... the upkeep.... I think thats the major reason I haven't gotten into PCs.

thank you!

I got a ps3 partly because they dont charge for online play, I dont want another monthly bill, not matter how small it is, it all adds up!

Also at the time, the ps3 had built in wifi and the 360 was 50$ more for wifi, but now thats not an issue is it? the new 360 comes with it I believe, idk if its more expensive though...

I switched to playing on the PC when my Xbox 360 red ringed. But I've been keeping track of the games being released on it so that when I get another, I'll be able to play all the games I've missed. And in doing that I've seen that really the vast majority of games that come out for the Xbox 360 also come out for the PS3, and vice versa. Basically if you buy one console over the other, you wont be missing much. What you will be missing are the exclusive titles for each console, which should be one of the biggest factors in your decision. If you like the exclusives you get on the Xbox 360, then stick with it. If you think the PS3 has better exclusives, then get one. Just make sure you do your research and don't fall victim to the grass appearing to be greener on the other side.

Free online and bluray as standard makes it a better buy for me personally. I'm not a fan of all the console exclusives but the Uncharted series is outstanding, as is Demon's Souls. It has some really fun PSN titles like Flower, Dead Nation and Wipeout. Also I think the PS controller is more comfortable than the Xbox one.

ok. So far the only exclusive on the xbox I like is Gears of war. I usually like the games that are available for both. but good point. I haven't really liked the exclusives on the PS3. Except God of War. That game looks awesome, and I have always wanted to play the series.

God of War is definitely a must-play if you get a PS3. Isn't Gears coming soon? (I have no idea being a PS3-owner) Then you could always buy your PS3 afterwards. If you're into graphically stunning games as your first post suggests, Uncharted 2 is still beautiful (though Drake is the kind of character I have a real hard time to accept... Smug, wise-cracking clutzes are not my cup of tea)

Were you just going to buy a brand new system? Cuz, depending on how populated the area you live in is(I'm on an iPhone and can't see your "location" on the side), you might be able to find one cheap in the local classifieds or sites like Kijiji or Craigslist.

My classifieds are full of PS3 bundles(accessories, games, etc), some ridiculously cheap. A lot of people are switching to xbox, there's 2 big retailers (gamestop and future shop) having sales in my area, and there selling like crazy. Sony is losing a lot of customers with this network outage.

Hell, I went to buy a 360 today at the nearest Gamestop cuz the deal was so good, but I wasn't selling my PS3... just getting impatient. Anyway, they were all out, and the sales started yesterday. Called around, and it's the same at every other Gamestop. No more until Monday.

Edit:

But uh, to answer your questions (), Sony would lose even more business if they started charging for online services. That's one of the main reasons people choose a PS3 over 360. And blu-ray players are default hardware.

It really depends on what games you want to play. I would just look at which one has the best titles available.

ya I usually just buy a new system, because I really don't like buying used things. They never work right for me. What I am not understanding is why people are selling their PS3s just because the system went down. they are getting a revamped system once it comes back on. I heard it's supposed to be really good to. But ok, I will look into more deals and see what I can find. Thanks!

It really depends on what games you want to play. I would just look at which one has the best titles available. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_xbox_360_gameshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ps3_games

Well when I looked at all the exclusives, the only one on 360 I found was Gears of war. And then the ones on Ps3 I looked at were Uncharted, and God of war. I can live without gears of war I guess. I could just play it at someone's house, but I have to finish the series. I am not going to just end it at the second one!

If Skyrim was only available on 360, then I would keep my 360. The TES series was the only reason I was keeping my 360 now that I think of it!

They both svck. Get a Wii :obliviongate:

no.. I can't do that. the wii single handedly made me dislike nintendo.

Do it Septim. You won't regret it. I pondered the same thing a couple months back, and I decided to go for the PS3. I haven't looked back since.

That sounds like a pep talk for a battle! haha I guess it is a battle. because if I invest my money in the wrong thing, I will have lost everything. The war must be won!

Haha no problem. To expand on that a bit i'll say after using the 360 interface for 5 years I much prefer the PS3 XMB. It's just so much more elegant. The 360 dashboard looks cheap and kiddy to me. On top of that I prefer the Blu Ray player, the internet browser is a nice extra feature just to have, the photo viewer is much better on the PS3, free online, much better and many more exclusives, and I like the look of the system better as well.

Also the PS3 can play 3D games and movies if you happen to own a 3D television and go for that kind of thing....Aslo the PS Move works greats and you canl games like Killzone 3 and Socom 4 with the PS3 Shar Shooter which also works great.

Just remember that free =/= better when it comes to online.

I have both systems (so don't think I'm just like any other rabid Xbox fan) but I VASTLY prefer the 360. Granted, KillZone 3 is an amazing game, but I spend 95% of my time on my 360.

@Dark Reaper: Both the PS3 and the 360 have games that support 3D.
