having actual Scandinavian voice actors

Post » Sun Nov 14, 2010 11:07 am

im really hoping that they if they have voice acting, the nords are voiced by actual Scandinavian people, because from what i heard of the teaser, it was an american trying to sound nordic which kinda ruined the atmosphere a lil, but overall still a good video!

The voice actors aren't so important to me that much. As long as they fit the characters/races, It doesn't matter where they're from.
And by the by, the voice actor in the teaser was Max von Sydow, and he is infact Swedish.

That would be kinda nice... ship some dan/swe/norway people over and get em to talk!

The 'American from the trailer' is actually a Swedish actor named Max von Sydow.

EDIT: And also it is not important where the voice actor is from, just that they are good.

But they areb't scandinavian. And it would just sound silly to have a bunch of scandinavians speaking english in scandinavian accents when voicing people loosely based on scandinavians. Especially since no other Nord has had a scandinavian accent.

I liked the Nord voice actors in the past, but yeah, it would be a lot more interesting to hear a thick accent when in an isolated mountain village.

I don't think this is important at all. Skyrim isn't located in Scandinavia so I see no reason for why that would be the case.

Now that would be funny to hear. Especially if they couldn't care less to hide their accent and I guess that's what the OP wants.

Or just give them a potato and you get close to something. (Yeah, I know that one is old)

Honestly I wouldn't mind if they just got all the voice actors from Oblivion again. Along with some new ones.

I like the Oblivion Nord voice.

I definitely agree with this, BGS is at the level now where they can recruit from a wide source of actors/actresses and one hopes for some genuine scandinavian voice acting. Max von Sydow is so famous/perfect that I wouldn't have anyone else there (like Patrick Stewart in Oblivion, GREAT choice!). But for at least some of the towns and voice acting, real accents would be nice!

Hmmm . . . Max is swedish, so that makes the hole setting more credible.

Yeah, Skyrim is Skyrim, it is not scandinavia, but it is full of scandinavian influences.(Architecture, nature and names.)

Anyway, it does not really matter. The other TES games had voiceactors with quite thick american accents.

I don't care where the voice actors come from, but I want the actors to be able to ponounce the Scandinavian-inspired words correctly.
As a Norwegian I find it a pain to hear a nord say a word you know, and it's pronounced really bad. "Udyrfrykte" comes to mind.

well of course your not going to find actors with 'skyrim' accents because skyrim doesnt exist lol, but imo, having some big scary person with an unfamiliar accent roaring at you with his axe held high over his head....bliss :D

Or the names of the people. Just sounds wrong in my norwegian ears.

No offense to the rest of the world, but there are very few people who can and care to do so unfortunately...

Speaking as one, I strongly disagree.

American actors are fine but the more classicly trained style of voice is much more fitting than the sweet valley twang or a nasal New York accent.

Generally the more actors the better.

Haha, no... I just want someone who can pronounce Norwegian words (and English words of course) in a somehow proper manner.

Having scandinavian voice actors is not that important imo. But the main issue with having non-scandinavian actors TRYING to sound scandinavian/nordic, is that they cant for life pronounce our names.
And nords do almost always have nordic names such as Olaf, Ragnar and so on. Americans cant pronounce the names at all so it sounds ridiculous for us who know how they are supposed to sound you know. But still, not a super big deal. And there's no easy way to get around the problem either i think, since americans trying to sounds scandinavian sounds even worse then it would if you just used scottish and british voice actors or something.

No, I would hate this, scandivian accents sound awful, I've done everything in my power to rid me of my own (and succeeded). Besides, has people have said, Skyrim in inspired by scandivania, it's not the actual place.

Hah, im the opposite, i actually treasure my accent when talking english. Far more unique and cool then talking some wannabe american-english accent. The European english-accents are all very cool imo. Russians, Germans, Scots etc..
