Having issues making custom minigun...

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 3:29 pm

I am making a custom form of a minigun for my mod. I have done plenty of crap with weapons, so I don't get why this isnt working. I am trying to take the minigun and make it fire much slower, like 2 rounds per second, no 10. So I set its fire rate to 4 (Rounds fired per 2 seconds) but ingame it ends up shooting like 5 times as many as default. (10 a second, or 20 fire rate) No matter what number I put in as the fire rate it fires like 100 rounds a second! Is this an issue with the animations or something? Why wont it let me set a custom fire rate without getting all weird?

I'm not sure what's going on there. It sounds like an animation issue. Is ammunition being expended at that rate? Try firing it at a nearby wall and count the hits. you should be able to tell that way if its animation or not.
I modded the Chinese Assault Rifle from 4RPS to 14RPS and put it on silent, but I had no animation problems with that. The animation sped up for the higher firing rate. BTW did you also chane the "semi-auto delay" properties? IF you add a minimum delay of 0.5000 seconds per shot, that should slow it down considerably. you may have to play with the number though. Good luck!

I don't know about the ammo, it doesnt use any. (Its part of what the weapon is for.) I have made full auto uzi Combat shotguns, rocket launcher pistols, all sorts of crazy stuff before no problems at all. So I know this should be working. The semi-auto delay is not used for automatic weapons. Only semi-auto ones. (ie it does not apply to minigun, gattlaser, assault rifles. Just pistols, shotgun, etc) So Fire Rate is the only option I have to change how fast it shoots and anything but 20 (higher or lower) makes it shoot like 100 rounds a second.

Hmm.. you could try setting the fire rate at 1 and slowly work your way up. Perhaps you've done that already?
I had a similar proplem trying to make The Terrible Shotgun into a SPAS-12. No matter how I tweaked the fire rate and semi auto delay (I checked the 'Automatic' box) it still fired at the normal rate of a shotgun. but it was automatic. That's it. I'm all out of ideas. Now i'm going to have to ask you for some info on the mod so I can test it at home and maybe figure it out there.
I need:
Fire Rate:__ SemiautodelayMIN:__ SemiAutoDelayMAX:__
IS automatic? Y/N

Did you base the weapon off Eugene or did you use the standard minigun settings?

I don't have GECK on this computer, i have to go elsewhere to use it (D@%& AOL!!!) but feed me that info and i'll see what I can do.

Sorry i'm not much help, im fairly new at this too.

Ahh thanks for your help but, SaidenStorm proposed in another thread that having the minigun use no ammo would cause this issue. While I have not had time to test it (been busy with other parts of the mod) my minigun does not use ammo, so I reckon this is it. I will give it an ammo type and see if its fixed. If it is not I will be sure to come back here.

Okay.
I created a new minigun using Eugene's stats. I changed 'ammouse' to 0 and gave it a fire rate of 1. I change semiautodelayMIN to 1.1000 and semiautodelayMAX to1.5000. I gave cliprounds 20. THEN...
I tested it in-game. The minigun did not use any of the 20 rounds it had to spend, but it did fire. The muzzle flash and bullet hits on the wall indicated that it was firing around 2 rounds per second. But the sound of the firing was still that of a normal minigun. you can easily replicate these results yourself. I'd try using a different sound file, or tweak the minigun's 2D and 3D sound files yourself. I have no idea how to do that yet, but it should work.
good luck. now, i'm taking my newbie butt back to the tutorial pages. seeya!
