Having issues with constant stuttering

Post » Wed Jan 20, 2016 5:02 am

I've recently started Skyrim from scrap because I would get crashes and freezes and what-not. Now that I don't have any mods installed (I have uninstalled and removed them from my computer completely) I still get constant stuttering. And it's the kind of stuttering that allows me to walk for about a second, then lag spike, another second and then lag spike, etc. I can't play the game properly when it's doing this. Please, someone tell me what to do about this. :c

Also, same happens in the menu screen: Both the fog and mouse are stuttering constantly. I've done the clean uninstallation several times and sometimes it works, but the stuttering will just come back sooner or later. :c

It was, actually. Sometimes I would get no stuttering at all. Those were the good times. *sigh*

And it's so weird, I tell you. Now, I have completely reinstalled everything (the game and the mods I used before this) and it runs like butter. I even have some memory-intensive mods, such as high resolution texture mods, mods that add both NPCs and scripts and mods that add new lands. It seems that my problem is randomized, yet there's some variable that's causing it. :/

Hmm, it could be your computer system (i mean, if your hardware can't keep up with the game including mods), or maybe some applications running in the background...thus those stuttering.

But it was once running perfectly. And back then I had applications running and it would crash normally due to vast amount of mods, but it would never stutter like that. :/

When you reinstalled you manually deleted the SKyrim directory?

Deleted ini files and started a new game?

Are u using a hug amount of mods?

Have you uninstalled any mods since then?

Bad or too many scripts can cause Lag and stuttering.

I haven't experienced any lag or crashes since I started using Sheson's memory patch. And right now it seems that my Skyrim is at it's best condition. Think I'll leave the settings as is, and hope that this problem will never come out again. :)

Yes, if it works leave it as it is. Sometimes a background program tries to update itself, so some stuttering can occur.

SKSE has Sheson's patch integrated into it now. You have to create the ini file for it.

...IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE...

Download and install SKSE 1.7.3

Go to Steam/steamapps/common/Skyrim/Data and see if you have a SKSE folder with an SKSE.ini file inside. If you do, add these values to SKSE.ini:

[General]

ClearInvalidRegistrations=1

[Display]

iTintTextureResolution=2048

[Memory]

defaultHeapInitialAllocMB=768

scrapHeapSizeMB=256

If you don't have an SKSE.ini create one inside your SKSE folder

----------

If you use M.O. and one of your mods supplies its own SKSE.ini file, it will overwrite this one.

Add those values above to that mod's SKSE.ini file. You can find it in Mod Organizer/mods/(your mod)/SKSE/ folder.

The most common causes in my experience are framerates and scripts, if the fps drops the game will struggle to sync with the monitor refresh rate and will either input lag or get stuttering from dropped frames, or too high a script latency will cause chugging for similar reasons it should stay below 50ms to keep a reasonable performance.
