Having played through 4 times...

I am thinking of not using fast travel on my next character.

I use it way to often.

Once I get my 4 gigs of RAM going, I am going to play the hell out of it.

Or is it just that good guys miss out on 80% of the games content?

That could be. I don't know. I have nearly 100 hours and that's just from doing the Thieve's Guild, Dark Brotherhood and randomly exploring. That's literally all I've done so far and I'm actually overwhelmed instead of the other way around.

Please don't. Cause unlike Oblivion, it is actually better to not fast travel. The environment, at least to me is that alluring.

I have put 200 hours into my single character and i still have a lot of quests i can do, not counting the ones i haven't found yet. I explored the whole map besides the plateau area that is in the southeast corner of the map, where riften is. I don't care for the "radiant quests" at all and i do not do those. I can only handle so much "fetch and then kill this" quests.

about 20 hours in and I haven't started the main quest. Just started my first guild. Till now, I've found my own stuff to do and reached level 10 and about 10k gold. I think the money comes a little easy and the leveling is way too fast, but still, I've collected those stats having basically done very little of the game. It's all about finding your own crap to do in Skyrim.

Halldir's Cairn by Falkreath has a shi* ton of them...white cap, namira's rot, bleeding crown, and imp stool. Just cleared it out today.

Gerimund's Hall near Ivarsted has quite a lot as well.

My first character took 160 hours and didn't do the companions, mages guild, db, or thieves guild.

I'm now doing a pure mage, and pure thief characters, then will do an assassin and a nord berserker. I still discover locations that I missed in my first 160 hours of play.

Utter Fantastic game. I have never played a better RPG, this beats Oblivion by a long shot.

Except for one... Teeny factor.

I feel like I have put only 30 hours on a character, just to move on. I never did that in Oblivion, I never ran out of things to do.

Is it just me, or is there just a lack of things to do?

Or is it just that good guys miss out on 80% of the games content?

Completely the main quest, Civil War, completing the guild quests that have rewards you desire and completing the daedric quests that have rewards you desire, and then getting all the shouts is a lot of hours and it is fairly enjoyable. Then, if you're really getting into a good place with that character, you can do random quests you pick up along the way.

That's probably my aim - get the gear I want and then run the bulk of enjoyable content. The story elements are alright, but some of the quests aren't worth gritting your teeth for once you've already seen the story unfold once.

REALLY...... There are approximately 350 areas to discovers in this game and you are talking about, did I miss something. I only have 30 hours in the game per character. Give me a break. This game is easily 150-200 hours in length. The main missions, side missions, side quests....Yeah you missed something for sure.

Why did you shoot through it so quick? You can easily see how big the map is. Did you not think for one second that they might be tons of areas to discover?

OP, I am Lvl 37, sitting on roughly 85 hours and I have yet to finish the Main Quest. In fact, I think I am only on the 3rd quest.

Quite honestly I cannot stop my quest que from building up. Every new city you go to gives you a ton of quests if you talk to a few people (pick and choose what you want to do). Also do not forget Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, College of Winterhold, Champions, Bards and countless other "side quests" that take many hours to get through.

There are roughly 300-325 locations (that are mappable) in this game. How many did you discover in that 30 hour time period?

While "radient" quests might not be your thing, there's a bunch in the game. The greybeards will send you on quests to find the remaining dragon words. The various guild factions will send you on their flavor of missions. They don't advance the story, so to speak, but they do give you adventures to go on. You can also do all the daedric quests, or just those that suit you. The game doesn't really "end" until you decide to end it. The main quest isn't even a "must finish" for the game to be played.

Something I never got: why should you play every factions in order to feel your game complete? A thief shouldn't join the mages and fighter's guild, so he should feel the game offers enough without touching those questlines. You shouldn't "miss" on them, that implies you should do them, that's not how RPGs work, it's not about completion. And that's something that annoys me since Oblivion, they feel like you HAVE to be able to do everything. You can't kill certain NPCs, no skill prerequisites to get up ranks in guilds, etc. You don't even need to be a fighter to be in the fighter's guild, you can be a mage using fire balls all the time, it's not right. And since Oblivion, I feel the game is lacking when following only one faction. Morrowind's faction quest lines were longer, and there were more factions which could appeal to more specific characters, as well as more "generic" characters. So a fighter character could only join the Imperial Legion because he doesn't like mercenary work, or another one could only join the fighter's guild because he hates the empire, or another one can do both.

i agree ... i give myself personal rules for any character that i decide to play ... like for example no siding with "evil" type characters/guilds for any reason. thats if there is any such thing as "evil" when you come to the point anyway, but you know what i mean. yes you can if you want to do and use any skill in Skyrim ... but you can also NOT DO THIS by limiting yourself and this in my case, makies the game more enjoyable as i have to find way around certain parts, like trawling in that dungeon or doing that quest and having to outthink and do it a different way other than what Bethesda dev's scripted for it.

it all depends on how much enjoyment you want and how you want to get that enjoyment.

You read that wrong, I don't want to.

I should also stop following the quest marker like a robot and actually explore.

I think people are missing that much because the are so "streamlined" to quests... By that, i mean, that they think that the only quests in the game are the ones pointed in your map and in your journal.. but no..

Every cave i go, every ruins, every camps, everywhere i go i try to find some "clues".... I mean to find some Journals or maybe a book... and then i read it, and then this Journal for example, didn't activated any quest, there's nothing on my map or my journal, BUT, i read it, and in it it says that e.g the author of the Journal was scared to go on that road because there are lots of Bandits, and that she/he knew they probably stay in a cave nearby that Road. This didn't activated any questlines or anything like that, and then i go and search for this cave, when i find it, i go inside, kill the bandits, and there is another Journal, this one is from the Leader of this Bandits, i open it, this didn't activated any quests, but i read it and it led to kinda a conspiracy of Bandits for example..

This was just an example, but if you don't do that, you are certainly missing alot of the game.. Because this game is not all about this Marked Quests on your map and your Journal... There's so much things to do and explore, that are really interesting, but just if you don't Limit yourself to the "Marked Quests"...

Been looking for a thread about exactly this but didn't find one but I'm glad I saw your reply here.

Personally I have been extremly dissapointed over the lack of journals/notes that leads to an active quest. It would make exploring so much more interesting to me. I see your point regarding reading them and then trying to decrypt the information. Unfortunately I'm a bit to lazy to do that with all of em, I should however try. Even though, there are still tones of journals/notes in the game that doesn't lead anywhere. Goodbye notes, a bandits last word, a dead npc's diary and so on.

An example:
Spoiler
Was out exploring when I stubbled upon a small lake. On a small rock next to it I found neatly folded clothing and jewelry. A few feet away I saw the body of a young girl, filled with Forsworn arrows. Next to her pile of clothes I found a note (her diary) saying how her father had warned her about swimming alone in unstable and dangerous times like this. And how she felt it was all overdone and how nothing would stop her from taking those soothing baths she loved.

After reading that I thought I so wished I could try and find her father to bring him the bad news, I'm sure he is worried sick wondering where she is.

So I agree, you need to interact with the game by decrypting those journals but far far more should lead to active quests. What a great way to add diversity to the game/quests.
