having trouble installing oblivion

Post » Sun Jul 11, 2010 8:42 am

My fiancee thought she would be nice and put oblivion on our laptop for me, she even played it for awhile. She then went and got dragonage and I installed it, it played fine. I beat dragonage and really wanted to go back to play oblivion and told her we should put some mods on the game annd she agreed. So I uninstalled it, went and deleted the oblivion ini and the saved games file and went through and got rid of anything that was left, I then put the first disk in so I could put the game out of the program files because of windows 7and it would not load or read the disk. The message I kept getting was it is a blank dvd. It did this seven times. I even went so far as to buy a new game, same result. I tried dragonage again and it loaded fine. So I called a local computer repair shop and they told me that it was the filters, so I reset them to default and I checked the divers and they're up to date and it says the dvd player is working properly. I put the first disk in and it loaded fine, I put it in C:\Games\Oblivion, it loaded fine, put the shivering isles and kotn disk in and it loaded just fine, I then put the first disk back in and set it to run as administrator and started the game it started fine. My fiancee wanted back on to do her facebook, and three hours later I got back on and tried the game and got the messages to put in the original disk and the drive wasn't ready. So I waited afew minutes and tried again, same message that it wasn't the original disk. I popped out the disk and put it back in and got the message that it is a blank disk. Tried a few more times and then went to the control panel to uninstall it that way and it told me to put in the oblivion disk. It was already in there. Needless to say I got mad and went through and deleted the files by hand and ran regedit to make sure I got it all. The only place I can't seem to get rid of it is in the control panel under uninstall programs. I tried installing it in safe mode, it did absolutly nothing. I even went and installed roxio because we have cyberlink, no help. I also keep getting an alert about high cpu usage while I'm using internet explorer, would that be the problem? Any help would be greatly, greatly, greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

Sorry. Two things. I have a tendency to shy off from sizable blocks of unformatted text, so I really have little idea what happened for you to complain of. (If you want me to read that, it will have to be organized with normal business style paragraph breaks in it.)

here's the system

hp G62 notebook
64 bit system
AMD V120 processor 2.20 ghz
ATI mobility Radeon HD 4250
3.00 GB harddrive ? ?

any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you in advance.
However, you should already expect some problems related to the fact that your laptop has no actual discrete video card, only what is referred to as an onboard Chipset video chip, meaning the game looks very bad compared to what it should look like, or else it will run very slowly, one or the other.

As part and parcel of attempting to use a system that was never designed for the kind of stress that game play puts on PCs, there is always the likelihood that repeated exposure to such stresses will eventually (not every time, but frequently) result in accumulated damage.

I am rather curious about your specifications showing a hard drive smaller than the installed size of Oblivion.

Dragon Age installs some DRM as well. That is probably what is causing your laptop to not want to read the disk......
