Having trouble linking doors to terminals

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 9:21 am

I did everything right, I made double sure, but whenever the terminal *unlocks* the door, the door is still locked. Yes, they're the same level of difficulty. Yes, I checked persistent ref. I'm positive I did everything correctly. It also does this with safes.

Also I'd like to take a moment to thank people for answering my questions, vault 41 is almost finished.

So the door is a persistant reference, and then if you double click on the terminal, then go to the linked ref tab you have the door selected? Based on the title of this thread, I would assume your linking the locked thing (door, safe, etc.) to the terminal, when you should be linking the terminal to the locked thing. Then it should work just fine.

However way I do it, the cursor only turns white for one of them, no matter which one I selected first. And the terminal is the persistent reference.

Oddly enough, if I select the terminal and try to select a ref for it, I can only select the terminal and nothing else.

This is because you can only select persistant ref's. So make the DOOR the persistant ref, then select it from the terminals linked ref menu.

Another way to do it would be to make the door a persistent ref and the terminal does not have to be. Then, if you give the door an editor reference ID like 'MyDoorRef' you can put this into the results script of the terminal choice that unlocks the door:

MyDoorRef.unlock

No linked ref is necessary for this method.
