Having A Wife

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:04 pm

its not like you will be looking after her all of the time she could go out to find work or buy stuff even accompany you on a quest if you wish etc like a really good A.I

"Oh no goblins are stealing our carrots, grab an axe and come"..."How did we end up on the other side of the province?"..."We saved the world together"..."Aww you died sorry, guess I need a new partner"

The companion system would be fine. Plenty to choose from, they need to accept, you can ask them to follow or stay (they do their routines, maybe get killed in the woods if you tell them to stay and they are going back towards a city), they have love partner dialogue instead of KOTN dialogue.

Of course that doesn't seperate a lot from the fighter companions, but it would be a change.

And then people would demand to be able to perform sixual acts upon them.

Kids got to learn about the birds and the bees at some point don't they?

besides, it is just reinforcing the model that women are docile, complying objects for a man to use/abuse.

That's right and don't you forget it!

My biggest reason for voting "no" (other than complete disinterest in the idea) is that having 'relationships' in the game means the dev's have to devote resources to that concept. That means other areas of the game don't get those resources. I think that's a really bad idea. I'd rather those resources go to other things that will actually make the game more fun to play.

Every time something new is added it's going to take up resources also didn't Bethesda hire a lot more employees between Oblivion and Fallout?

What about a husband? Not everyone plays male characters you know, or must all female player characters be homosixual?

Not quite all females in TES are Bisixual it's in the Lore people you just need to look.
Spoiler
I wonder how many people actually believed that comment or thought I was serious.

Anyway I voted yes but if this is going to be implemented it's got to be done different then the ways other games deal with relationships like Fable and GTA.

Honestly? I feel like "Domestic" things should be more or less subtle, or something a player can make himself. The developers...should focus on making heavily customizable adventures. If this makes sense.

Guys i must know your thoughts on this having a wife good or bad idea? vote^^^

personally NOT a fan of a 'marriage' in-game...now i do think it would add alot to have more romantic interests/quests in the game, but 'marriage' is too binding for a free form game imo

I put "not sure."

See, in theory I like the idea. However, in a game with a timescale that isn't "10 minutes to a year" it'd be hard to realistically implement. It takes a long time to build and nurture a relationship to the point of getting married.

This isn't fable...

Or Sims...

Many of us would not appreciate a spouse holding us back from our adventures!

Here's my reason... a wife takes time and commitment. What would a wife do in the Elder Scrolls? Bake sweetrolls? Fetch you beer? There's a maid in Rosethorn hall who does that for you. Your crew in Battlehorn castle, Dunbarrow Cove, and the Brotherhood sancuary do that kind of stuff for you. And realistically, for her you do NOT need to give them the commitment as you would a wife. The lovey dovey factor just wouldn't work out...

Good grief, NO. :yuck:

I'm playing these games to escape the boring banolities of real life. I want to explore new places, solve puzzles/quests, join a guild, and treasure hunt.

You want artificial relationships, go play some other game to fulfill you inability to form real-life relationships. Or, better yet, actually communicate with real people and form real relationships.

besides, it is just reinforcing the model that women are docile, complying objects for a man to use/abuse.

And no, I'm not interested in having the game add the ability to get a 'husband.' I don't understand people's fascination with simulating artificial relationships - let alone marriage - in video games.

Ummm I'm newly married and I said yes, so your ignorant spat makes you look like a tool, anyway I think it would be a very good rp element, and if you have kids I think you should be able to have a setting (much like RP'ers do dead is dead and never use the character again if it dies) where if you die your primary character becomes your choice of which of your children youd like to use.

Also I think it would be good to have actual companions, interactive "friends" for your characters instead of a mindless drone to follow you who cant even repair a weapon. Lets keep in mind for the whole marriage thing its AN OPTION, just like fast travel, I can't stand people who endlessly complain about gameplay aspects that are purely optional and not forced upon you.

Agree with the guy above me about the whole optional thing. I want more optional, unimportant things. Now I know I may take [censored] for this but, I think in that factor Fable II wins.

No way!!!!

I don't want to have to explain to someone everytime I'm going out hunting or on a mission or some job or come home to some nagging man. I want to be footloose and fancy free. It's the least I can ask for in a game.

I'll deal thigh the marriage thing in real life. Oh yeah, and keep the six out of my games too. There's enough of that to go around in real life too and much more fun that way.

Games are for having fun. I like the romp and the journey.

It's optional, like in real life, you don't have to get married if you don't want to, and there are no shotguns in Tamriel so if you get a girl pregnant less chance of having to marry her =)

It felt a little pointless in fable and I doubt anyone can ever make it work properly in a game.

Unless they went out of their way to make sure we have an emotional connection with said wife/husband, I say leave marriage for real life.

Well in Oblivion at the end of it all like the MQ, guilds and even all the misc quests I find the game leaves you feeling very alone and like it's become pointless to even use that character again, I'd go into the houses I own and actually feel bummed out, I guess it didnt help that I was playing in Calgary when my wife (then fiance) was back in Ontario finishing school and I was already very lonely to begin with but yeah lol....

*coughs* I'd much rather preffer a husband, thank you very much. But it would be fun to have relationships, both friendly and romantic. Until then, I just RP it.

If your newly married you would be aware of the commitment it takes to have a spouse. If you were some adventure out constantly on missions for his guild, or fighting daedra, or romping dungeons... you probably wouldn't stay married, if you even GOT married.

Although I totally agree with you about the companions. They're probably going to do it just like they did in Fallout 3, so I'm excited! No wife companions though... it would just be awkward. The romance stuff in an elder scrolls game? I don't think so.

That's not entirely accurate a lot of people do have jobs where their away from their spouse for a long time and they stay together. Granted it's a lot more strain on a marriage but it doesn't necessarily mean it would end a marriage.

Damn it! There are females on this website too.

Exactly! :slap:

Don't add this feature by deleting something more important.

Exactly! :shakehead:
Honestly, I wouldn't mind it being in the game, but there are a great number of things I think would be better worth the Devs time :)
