Havok Static Activators

Post » Thu Aug 20, 2015 11:19 am

Hi, I was trying to learn some simple scripting using static items and turning them into activators but ran into a problem I need someone to help me fix.

Basically you take an activator, in this case a RTGravestone01, and a static Kettle01. You take the path of the kettles' nif file and use that as a replacement for the gravestones nif. I am just curious it anyone tries this if the kettle pot, now an activator, is havok settled and cannot move or is it still able to be kicked around? The problem i am having is the kettle pot is still moving around no matter what i do.

youtube.com/watch?v=h13b7vGVXtA Here is the link to the tutorial i am referring to at the 20 minute mark. It's a pretty old video, a response from the author would be highly unlikely. But someone did have the same problem i had and he said the kettle shouldn't move in a response long ago. I just would like someone to try this and see if i am making a mistake somewhere, thanks.

With the kettle you took a misc item with clutter collison and made it an activator, it keeps the clutter collision of course and will move when you push it. If you want it to be static, you have to make a new item for the kettle and give it static collision.

I am just using the nif file for the kettle though.

I opened the misc kettle with edit, then copied the path to the nif. Then opened a duplicated activator, the gravestone, and pasted in the path to the kettles' nif. How could it still have clutter collision?

Because the collision is in the nif ;), the nif (= model mesh) itself does not change if you make it an activator.

How do I make a new static kettle then have that be an activator? I am confused now  Also can you confirm that method doesn't work if possible, see minute 21 of that link I posted.

You don't seem to get what I mean. Sorry, English is not my native language.

The method in the video works, you can use the kettle from the misc items as an activator and it will work. But that is not what you had asked. You asked about the havok on it.

The only method if you don't want it to move, is to copy and edit the nif of the kettle, give it a static collision, put this one in your meshes folder and then make an activator from it.
