HDMI Cable.

I bought 2 hdmi cables from monoprice for about $12 after tax, and shipping. The latest technology and highest quality without giving some company 300% mark-up( or more for monster cables, they and rocketfish go all the way to $100).

So wait, what were you using before?

I ask this because older models of the 360 came with a composite cable. Newer models simply came with a yellow video cable.

Did you jump from regular video? Or composite.

I ask this because I'm running a composite on my 360 to my HD screen and i'm pretty happy with it. I do however use an HDMI from my computer to my TV and then audio out to the surround because my computer is a lot better than my Xbox.

I was using a component cable set to HD TV.

I use a component cable for my 360, mainly because I use Turtle Beach X31s and they need to have sound connections. But on my desktop/home server I use HDMI and it looks amazing. I recently got an old server that I am setting up as a FTP server, it uses VGA and I can definitely tell a difference between HDMI and VGA.
edit-fixed an incorrect word.

I have my PS3 connected to HDTV with Component Cable, i had it with HDMI before but i don't see a video/sound quality difference. But i have a small TV (19") and a crappy speaker set (some Logitech 2.1) :hehe:

To clear up some confusion I see in this thread:

The yellow cable is composite video.

The red/blue/green cables are component video.

The red/white cables are neither, they're just stereo sound.

The yellow cable is composite video.

I screwed up my post...I meant to say component, but I honestly had no idea what the correct term for the yellow composite video cable is so I accidentally used the wrong word which threw off everything I was saying.

Anyways, I learned something today! Thanks bud :)

That is how I feel. I think my 360 looks great using the component cables in 1080p. That is on my 42" Vizio. Though earlier in the thread, people were saying that even the difference between component and HDMI is pretty massive.

I remember the first time I switched from using component video cable to an HDMI on my 360 to my 1080p LCD and was blown away by the difference. Its the only way to go really, could never go back to component.

Yeah the names are too similar, so it's easy to get mixed up.

Not really, I can't tell the difference.

Yes I am aware of this. Yet I have 26 speakers setup around my front room/office that run through my second system (Music and Films) and my Laptop (Work and travel Gaming) along with my main system, (I can't call it a tower because its more like a heated footstall to me). So I just run all of my sound through these.

why the [censored] would you ever need 26 speakers. talk about overkill

Although I agree with you 100%, the HDMI cables make consoles look great, what does having a 250G HD have to do with anything?

I believe he is simply referring to the Elite models and after.

Not really, I can't tell the difference.

There are a multitude of factors that can make one person notice a difference with component -- component is anolog and as such can suffer from a multitude of interferences that degrade the quality. It could be that your setup doesn't suffer from the interference, but someone else's does leading to a huge difference for them when they switch to HDMI and a negligible difference for you if you switch to HDMI

but what would I need a 75 foot hdmi cable for? Unless I am going into a field that required that? I will stick with a 6 feet one.

I have a 50 foot cable set up so that if I swap it with the one that is currently plugged into one of my systems I can watch films on that system on the TV in my bedroom. Wireless mouse helps aswell for this but it safes having to move the whole system and its real quick and simple to swap the cables over.

Nuck - I have that many speakers for a reason. Yes to many it seems like overkill but they are rarely all on at the same time. It is basicly 4 surround sound systems that all run through different things. I live and work from a 2 bedroom flat and the whole place is wired up so that I can access anything from anywhere in my flat.

As for cheaper cables being affected by power supplies, its a little bit of an urban myth to me. I run nearly all of mine around two computer systems aswell as a massive power outlet and I've never seen degradtion from any of my cables.

Is there a quality difference when considering component cables? I am currently looking shopping for component cables for both my wii and ps2 and am wondering if there is something I should be looking for.

I use HDMI on my 50" plasma, and I don't see a massive change that everyone talks about. Maybe I am use to it now, and can't find my other cables, but I don't ever recall seeing a Massive change as some people claim.

I love it because I don't have to wory about 5 cables or 3 anymore. If I want to hook up my laptop to the TV to Play Morrowind on my TV with mods, it's great, one cable and that is it.

I love the HDMI cables, nice and convient.

I was going to ask where people were getting thier HDMI cables for $3, but now I see. I just bought the no name for $20 at the time at future shop. I dindn't want to for over $50 for them at the time. Now I see you can get them at the dollar stores for under $10 now.

There's no reason to spend a pile on a brand like Monster. Its not to say they're not well made, but they are ridiculously overpriced and the whole thing is driven by a very skillful marketing campaign (Best Buy in particularly makes a huge profit selling them to the unsuspecting). It borders on being a scam. You can get a well made, well shielded HDMI cable from a place like http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240 or http://www.bluejeanscable.com/ for a pittance by comparison and they work every bit as well.

Meh.

My console is pre-HDMI, but I got the HD VGA cable and use it on a monitor, so I doubt I'm missing anything. :whistling:

I tried a HDMI cable for my 360. Yes, the graphics on Oblivion were much better but everytime I placed a dvd in to watch a movie everything was the color blue. Drove me nuts.

I watch DVDs all the time on my 360 through HDMI. (actually that's the only thing I use it for now)

Did you have the color settings set to auto?

...blue? There's either something wrong with your settings or your HDMI cord/Xbox/TV because that's not normal. I play games on my 360 with an HDMI cord and I also watch a lot of movies on it with the same setup, nothing is ever "blue".
