Head-bob = Bad

Post » Thu Nov 25, 2010 7:58 am

This is possibly the only complaint that I have about Brink as of right now, and I'd really like it if the dev's could put in a feature to disable it so it becomes a much smoother movement camera. I can understand the Realism factor behind this, but I suffer terribly from motion sickness, which in-turn causes me massive headaches, and games where the head-bobs to a somewhat extreme-extent makes it nearly unbearable for me to play them. Games like CoD or Team Fortress 2, where the head-bob is little-to-none, I'm fine with, but games like Battlefield 2 BC where the head-bob is really shaky on movement I can feel myself getting Vertigo and an impending migraine.

Please, I'm really looking forward to Brink, and I don't want something as trivial as an over-emphasized head-bob to ruin my experience with it. I'm not saying take it out of the game, but at least give us an option to turn it on/off or some type of control that lets us control the intensity of how much the screen shakes. Thank-you.

Uh, might be me, but I don't even see any head bob when I look at the videos!? I see the hands going up and down, but the rest of the image remains, as far as I can tell, pretty stable, no!?

That's great, thanks for alleviating my worries Nail.

@Player, yeah that's a bit of a contributing factor as well.

In the alpha stages of BRINK (Container City Walkthrough, for instance), there was a good amount of camera-bobbing when walking at full speed and while running, and the hands and guns shifted a lot.

In the beta stages (E3 demo), this was toned down a lot. The screen would only rock if a grenade or high-explosive charge exploded.

I don't think Splash Damage would like to alienate those who suffer more from motion sickness, so I think they'll add a feature limiting screen movement.

Indeed, I thought they specifically confirmed this. Should check the Compendium on this.

Playing a game which supports Parkour-movements while suffering from motion sickness doesn't sound like a very good idea.
Because if you want to use SMART, you will have to accept a lot of motion, even with disabled head-bobbing.

Except if you plan on playing heavies only. ;)

Which is good imho. Everything that blurs sight or makes your screen shake hinders you while shooting.

The irony is that I'm fine with Parkouring in games. In fact, one of my favorite things to do is play Modern Warfare 2 with all the speed perks (Marathon, Lightweight, Commando) and go on knifing sprees in maps like Favela and Karachi. Its only when the camera shakes more violently than a Hawaian Hulu dancer Bobble-head on the dash board of an 18-wheeler that I start feeling nauseated. Go figure.

Have you played Mirror's Edge? Because Modern Warfare 2 does not heavy any proper Parkour-movement, only basic vaulting over objects without an interface-animation.

Thanks.

Kind of an odd decision if they want to take out the speed of a "fast killing shooter".

The decision to remove damage kick is in favor of a fast paced shooter - even when you are taking damage, you can still fire uninterrupted.

It would have really bothered me if they had included OHK snipers, but since there aren't any, it should be fine.

I know what it does.

But it basicly counters the fact that they have increased the number of bullets it requires to kill.

How does it counters that?

How does it counters that?

Disrupting your aim on the enemy does make you miss shots. Missing shots makes the enemy stay alive longer.

Now removing this "damage-kick" means you can stay on target much easier (in case there is no absolutely insane recoil - which we have not seen at all yet), thus allowing you to kill faster than if there was a "damage-kick".
