Headline News! Mages get the Shaft.

lol. I don't know what game you are playing, but as a mage I have never run around so much or had to rely on my wits so much to stay alive as I have had to here in Skyrim. And frankly I'm having a hell of a good time because of it. In Oblivion I used my bag of tricks (conjuration, destruction, restoration, alteration, enchanted weapon, etc) to win in combat, but I was really powerful ultimately and rarely ran into trouble. Here it's a lot more fun being the underdog. I have a companion that I need to help me, I rely heavily on my conjured atronach, and I still use my bag of tricks of several spells from different schools, and I do lots of creative tactics running around in situations with a lot of baddies or a boss fight. :celebration:

LOL your comment just proves my point exactly.... Mages are weak

In short you agree with me that Skyrim is a huge nerf for mages, but you enjoy it more than I do. More power to you.

As for me, I shelved my High Elf and am I'm playing a (ridiculously powerful) thief/archer until Supreme Magicka comes fix what I consider a broken magic system and still having fun that way. No design can please everyone, but mods can!

Yeah mages svck, the game were rushed, the animations look terrible and doesen't scale. My mage is lv30 and hes fireball looks like a [censored] matchstick.
I want scaling on the spells and some new animations.. seriously, they are pathetic. Fabe 1 did a better job and that game is 8 yrs old.

Oh well, we just have to wait for the CK, I'm not playing mage untill a proper mod comes out.

That is ridiculous. Illusion has always been and should still be a substitute, not a complement for Sneak. No self-respecting pure Mage will waste points in sneak.

then that self respecting pure mage is going to be chopped to bits until he begins to play smartly

Ya, but I don't see a problem with that. My point is that's the game you've got and either play it and figure out how to make it work or go back to Morrowind. This is Skyrim.

I was pretty disappointed when around level 10 I realized my career as a human :flamethrower: was over. Spamming lightning too feels infinitely more satisfying than a single charged bolt.

Mage being the challenging path in an Elder Scolls game is really, really weird.

I don't see why everyone feels the need to play like Voldemort. If you love mage that much you will adapt new methods to make yourself as effective as possible. Same with any class if they ever suffered the same fate.

Nah, it's okay. If you haven't realized until now, most nord are very sceptical towards magic so maybe they just don't know as many good spells and how to craft spells ;)

I never play a mage. But a high level mage should feel powerful. or at least useful. or at least a bit stronger than a town guard.

I just love that all of your comments (and the comments of those who support your nonsense) have no founding or basis behind them. Contrary to all the factual information and numbers we "whiners" give you to support our claims. You just defend the system to defend it, because you love the game. Well, we love the game too, but we want to love it more, because we like to play mages and as of now role playing a mage is not fun for the majority of people, because of how weak and useless we are as a whole.

Some of you might like feeling weak and helpless and the endless kitting and spamming, but most of us don't. Some of you might not mind playing a mage who needs a friggen lockpick to open a novice lock, we don't. Some of you may like having absolutly no reason or incentive to use cloth armor, as all mages have in every TES game till now, we don't. Some of you may love the fact that you have no options as a mage anymore in terms of utility (levitate, effective invisiblity, unlock, waterwalking, ect) MOST OF US DON'T

I am 22 and can easily take on 2 town guards at once and still have to get the final conjuration perk.

I hope you will forgive me if I take the word of those doing the math on this.
I'm glad at least someone is enjoying their mage though :)

Really? Well throw on some heavy armor and a two handed weapon and I bet you can double your effectivness. Even without perks in either category.... Better yet, get a bow.

Level 22 is doable. It's level 40+ where the flaws in the system usually become apparent.

Doable, yes, but it still feels quite a bit weaker to my warrior of the same level who could take two guards while eating a twinky in one hand.

What do you propose as a solution?

It's so obvious they rushed for a 11/11/11 release.. mages are boring to play and the animations are horrible, they haven't improved the spell system a bit from Oblivion, dual casting is also a joke.

There is only one realistic solution to your problem and that is mods.

I don't really see Beth doing over the magic system in place.

I just wish these threads would end, theres only been about a million of them.

They won't end because game forums are really horrible places.

Ya and if you read through the forums, I'm far form the first person with this issue. Get your mage past level 20 and then come talk to me. I bet you have never even played morrowind so your opinion doesn't matter.

Please continue, my good sir. and join the college of winterhold noob (lvl 35 mage) no problems here dragon attacking you? easy summon some atronach's or are you that [censored] that went pure destruction and dont know what an atronach is and can get killed by a lvl 10 bandit's stray arrow? if thats too hard for you then please join the bard college and quit the game, this is the discussion dept. not the qq or bugs dept.
