I always use headphones. My opinion is that acoustically they sound better. And I don't disturb my wife when I am "hacking and casting" (pun intended) in the small hours of the morning.

Running two sets of http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Klipsch+-+ProMedia+2.1+Speaker+System+%283-Piece%29+-+Black/9382232.p?id=1218095770265&skuId=9382232&st=klipsch%20pro%20media&cp=1&lp=1

I first bought these several years ago based on a gaming review article, and I've absolutely loved them. May not be the best in the world, but they are definitely the best I've ever used. I switched my home entertainment system to Klipsch as a result of my experience.

if my surroundings block the noise from my speakers, I use headphones so I don't risk blowing them out

Probably just my cheap $20 earbuds. They sound good for the price, but they aren't that great. I'm not an audiophile at all, so buying better audio equipment is the least of my worries with all the other games coming out. :P

I may have to invest in some better headphones at some point, though.

I have a great sound bar attached under my monitor.

And if that's not enough when I want further immersion, I have in my gaming storage:

2 KRK Rokit 8's, 2 BX5a's and Steel Series headsets.

I've used them all for Morrowind and Obivion. I'll probably flip them in and out till I find the perfect combo.

Thats funny,I was actually looking for some good headphones on the internet to play Skyrim with. Does anyone know how you could hook up some headphones to play with games on the Xbox 360? I know you gotta buy some kind of adapter.....but I went to different sites and they all give different answers. I would really love to play Skyrim on the 360 with some headphones, the booths at PAX had headphones for the Xbox360 so its possible,I just don't know how :[

To use headphones on the Xbox just buy a set of wireless headphones if your TV has a headphone jack the charging base will plug into the wall and the headphone jack into the TVs headphone output. If you don't have a headphone jack I'm not sure unless you can get an audio cable that can hook up to the headphones input and into your TVs audio output, like a component red and yellow on one end and a female headphone jack on the other. But if you have a newer TV I assume even the cheap flat screens would have a headphone jack, so no additional adapters would be needed. I have a cheap pair of Sonys I just use at night 20-25 bucks and sound good enough for me but you can obviously go high tech with Bose or I hear Turtle Beach are good.

Hope this helps a little if not just ask and I'll try to be more detailed.

Speakers. I hopefully will be getting a nice high quality set of speakers as an early christmas present just for Skyrim. :D

Though, for when I need to be quiet, I do have a nice pair of headphones I can use.

unfortunately, my place has a horrible echo problem because of high ceilings and concrete floors.

I have to use headphones or it will sound like I'm at a Jeremy Soule arena concert (not in a good way).

Wireless headphones from Turtle Beach -- then I don't have to worry about volume control or the neighbors. They are surround sound too

Sennheiser HD555 headphones. They are comfortable to wear all day, and they let sound through so I can hear if my cellphone rings.

Edit: I've a separate Logitech desk microphone.

This. I lived in Winnipeg, and the insulation is so beautiful on the Bose around-ear headphones (whatever, different terms all the bloody time - I mean the ones that completely encompass your ears) that not only can you not hear anything outside them (on the bus I could not hear the bus), they work as good earmuffs. Unfortunately, they got ruined in a move. I use Turtle Beach headphones for gaming that requires also talking (multiplayer), but will be getting a Bose headset again for Skyrim as soon as I find a pair that don't cost so damned much(as much as I rave about them, I don't see them as worth almost as much as a console) - got my first pair during a Boxing Day event.

Of course, this means importing - since Bose (and Turtle Beach for that matter) don't seem to exist here (thankfully my TBs are still fine).

Thanks alot dude! That was REALLY helpful! It turns out my TV DOES have a headphone jack, only problem is that it creates alot of static, dunno if its cause Im using crappy iPod headphones, and they aren't long enough,so I can only use them if Im sitting 2 inches away from my TV :[

But atleast I can actually use my headphones now. Hopefully I can fix the static/noise somehow. But thanks again!

I'll use both. I'll use my surround speaker setup during the day/days and at night switch to my headphones. Both for my wife and my neighours benefit.

I'll get some that cover up my entire ears, then turn on a tinychat...chat...so my friends can watch me begin my magical journey, or something, presumably while I make sounds that sound like I'm having an orgism.
