headphones or speakers?

Post » Fri Sep 30, 2011 12:30 am

I'm gonna play it loud through the speakers until my housemates get home then i'll play it through the headphones. I only recently discovered the amazing sound that headphones in games possess. I was playing dragon age 2 and half way through I started using headphones. I heard sounds on that game I had never even noticed.

I will probably use speakers unless I'm playing way into the night and I don't want to keep people up. I almost never use my headset unless I'm using Xfire or Ventrilo, etc.

So true. I played through a bit of oblivion without headphones, then when I put them in I noticed there were actually birds chirping in the game...

I use a pair of http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-XB700-Diaphragm-Driver-Headphones/dp/B001RB24SW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1315475437&sr=8-1. They sound very nice.

Surround sound?

Ehh, I'd prefer in my face sound. Most games don't put enough emphasis on sound to use both at once, with my sound bar.

Not to mention thats needing 4 extra power plugs, instead of 2.

My computer, with it's recent upgrades is way too loud as well, so it will be my big sony headphones for me.

Unless I get a monstrous set of headphones I'll be forced to use my TV's speakers.

I currently have wireless headphone but they're really heavy and hurt my ears if I keep them on for an hour or two.

I have x41s but they kill my ears in less than an hour. I dont even have freakish big ears either, what a waste of $ and the bass on them is horrible. I thought they were actually going to be good headsets but I quickly realized it was just the MW2 fad kids praising them, or people that have never really put any money into good head phones.. Should've returned them when I had the chance. :banghead:

But I easily prefer speakers, can play them loud without damaging ears.

Surround sound its a cheap set up but works fine in my relatively small room, or just my tv speaker they work fin for me, I did have some sweet headphones for a while really good sound and a really long cord like 10 ft but they brok and I haven't found a decent cheap pair to replace them. I love my surround sound but I tend to play till the wee hours of the morn so headphones would be really nice.

I use Turtle Beach X11's with both my Xbox and PC and they're great so I'd recommend picking up a pair, they're cheap too. :P

Headphones are more immersive and just overall better. You can hear the wide range of frequencies better, and small things which are almost unnoticeable with speakers begin to shine through. Also, panning of sounds when headphones are in use is just... fantastic.

That being said, I still use speakers during the day. It just feels weird playing with headphones on if it's daytime :P

What kind of headphones do you guys have? I have a pair of really cheap sony ones and a pair of wesc ones. But I have a PS3 and it got me thinking. I could get some really awesome ones that plug into the back in the optical out and give me 5.1 surround sound. so I was just wondering which types you guys have and if any of you have 5.1 surround sound ones.

It depends. If I'm playing at 11:00 PM I normally use head phones so as not to wake anyone up. If it's during the day, it's speakers.

I like using the big, leather cushioned headphones. But those broke so I'm using the speaker..

I switch to headphones after 10PM in order to not bother neighbors. Otherwise speakers.

Speakers. I don't do headphones, you can lose hearing over time.

Noise cancelling Bose headphones or surround sound speakers, depending on mood.

Definitely surround sound speakers. Headphones make my ears hot and sweaty and just plain irritate my ear holes after a few hours. I like to use headphones when listening to certain classical pieces because you can hear things you normally don't hear. But on the whole, speakers are better.
