headphones or speakers?

Post » Fri Sep 30, 2011 5:50 am

I guess this applies across the platforms, but what will you use? Im using my Corsair HS1 Headset so i can talk on skype to my friends as we all take in the wonders of Skyrim, and also because my computer fans are quite loud (Que the fermi jokes)

Also I've noticed I can hear the more detailed little things with a headset on.

Speakers for this one. My rig is pretty quiet and I need to be able to hear my door/phone/cats/outside world. If I end up playing through the wee hours of the morn', I'll plug in some headphones so battle music won't wake up my landlord.

I have a very nice pair of http://images.bizrate.com/resize?sq=220&uid=894388198 that have excellent sound quality and block everything else out, so I'll be using those. I don't know how you can bear to experience Skyrim with other people talking in your ear, OP. I'm not planning on letting anyone within a ten metre radius of me that weekend.

I have a pair of sony mdr 7506 and they are godlike. There's a really nice range for the frequency on them. I would personally use speakers though. imo, even with a computer, it sounds better when the sound originates near the screen.

[censored] the landlord! Let his quiet little dreams be interrupted with FUS ROH DAH!!!

OT: I'll turn my speakers to max volume and let the introduction music destroy my house. Then, after I've changed my underwear, I will use my headphones.

5.1 Home Theater System all the way. I like headphones for music, but not for gaming.

Definitely surround sound speakers. Headphones make my ears hot and sweaty and just plain irritate my ear holes after a few hours. I like to use headphones when listening to certain classical pieces because you can hear things you normally don't hear. But on the whole, speakers are better.

Yes, I made the mistake of buying a set of headphones that does not cover the entire ear, even though they looked like the ones that do cover up ears.

After a few hours with them on my ears hurt like hell. Why anyone would make a headphone ("over the ear") that doesn't cover an ear makes no sense to me... Anyways rant over...

I would prefer playing with my headset, because I feel I can get even more into the game. But this time around I think I'll stick with my speakers, which aren't bad.

I think the kids nowadays call them ear buds. Much easier to figure out wehre things are by sound vs coming from speakers, yet I can still hear my wife. Whether or not she knows I can still hear her....

Ha! Take that for refusing my request for new carpet! That'll show him for making me stick with this 25 year old dust farm!

Eh... I'm rather fond of this apartment though and wouldn't want to cross the guy. At least I will have double paned windows next month ensuring my electric bill will be lower... so speakers during the day/early night on my desktop and headphones on my laptop when it's late and he's home.

I use an astro headset. I find it is much better than my TV's speakers for the little details. Also it allows me to play late without upsetting the neighbors.

Headphones, definitely headphones. It's sort of a long personal tradition - I've always played Elder Scrolls games with headphones on.

Even when the skeletons screaming at me in Daggerfall scared me so bad I had to stop playing. :ooo:

I'm on the fence about this one, I mean Headphones make everything sound so...artifical (I KNOW ITS A GAME GO AWAY) and a Triple S if not set up properly is equally as poor...and we're talking about a Laptop here lol I don't know, I've both, I'll try it out. I have massive Shield Headphones that'll do the trick...maybe I'll combo it, Laptop speakers, triple S and headphones hanging below the ears ftw.

I'll probably use headphones. I find I really get svcked into a game when I use them because they block out most other sound so I don't get distracted. Plus I'll be able to listen to Jeremy Soule's masterpieces full blast without bothering anyone else  .

I live in a house with four other gamers. We often play at the same time, so headphones are a must in our house.

Thats funny,I was actually looking for some good headphones on the internet to play Skyrim with. Does anyone know how you could hook up some headphones to play with games on the Xbox 360? I know you gotta buy some kind of adapter.....but I went to different sites and they all give different answers. I would really love to play Skyrim on the 360 with some headphones, the booths at PAX had headphones for the Xbox360 so its possible,I just don't know how :[
