Hey guys. I have a PS3 and play Black Ops quite a bit. Unfortunately I have to play on mute because the noise bothers/wakes up my parents at night. So I was looking into getting a headset with a mic.

Everybody recommended Turtle Beach so I looked into that. I don't want to drop $200 on a headset so I thought http://www.amazon.com/Force-PX21-Gaming-Headset-Playstation-Pc/dp/B002BU0DPE would be a good compromise.

However I had a couple of questions. On Amazon reviewers mentioned it worked with 360 as well. But I was wondering if anybody with this headset or a similar kind has used it with a PC. It says it's compatible, but the setup looks a little iffy. I would like to be able to talk in Starcraft, Teamspeak, and use it with Rosetta Stone if possible.

So my question is, is this fully compatible with PC programs (I would say yes but it has more than a USB cord which other mikes have) and for people who have a headset w/mic, what kind do you have and do you like it? Thanks in advance

I have that exact headset and I like it quite a bit. I haven't used it with my PC, but the manual has instructions on how to set it up with that and a 360, so I assume it's cross compatible. It comes with a mic input cord for the 360.

I've been needing one too, how is yours holding up powermapler? I don't want to spend $70 on something that's going to come apart in a month.

1. I know the headset isn't full surround sound but can you tell what direction sound is coming from?

Oh I have some nice Sennheiser headphones. But I need something with a mic and compatible with PS3. Thanks for the suggestions though.

It's not quite surround sound, but you can most definitely tell where the sound is coming from. I play a lot of Killzone, and there are no grenade indicators in that game. If I didn't have this headset I'd have no idea where the grenades were thrown. Take from that what you will.

The build quality is great for what you get, really. Do to unfortunate circumstances the left earpiece in will occasionally start "fuzzing" out when there's a lot of action going on, and will sometimes cut out altogether. But as long as you don't crush your PX21 like I did, I doubt you'll have this problem.

I'm not much of an audiophile, so I may not be the best person to talk to. But I really like the PX21 and highly recommend it.

I think I'm going to go down to Best Buy tomorrow and pick some up. I'd love to buy some amazing headphones with a clip on mic, but the three way compatibility just makes things easier for now.

All headphones have directional sound. Headphones with 2 speakers have better sound quality and equal directional sound as headphones advertised as surround sound with more than 1 channel per ear.

As for a headset, if you already have good headphones, just get an RCA to 3.5mm jack and plug that into the back of your PS3, then plug your headphones into the jack, and make sure the sound is set to come out of that. Then get a usb soundcard for a few bucks (all it needs is a USB plug and a 3.5mm input), and buy a mic to plug into that. Voila. Sound output to your headphones, sound input from your mic, all for $20 or so, with far better sound quality than headset headphones, assuming your current headphones are at all above average.

Thanks for the idea. Never thought of adding a mic to my headphones. Not sure if I'm going to do this though because a) the PX21's come with some features that headphones with a mic wouldn't have (splitting left and right audio, mute button, game and chat sound mixing) and B ) I have already tried using my headphones for audio and the sound is very strange in COD and especially Gran Turismo. In GT, the sound was always in the back of the headphones (like the engine was behind me) even in 3rd person mode. Not really considering bluetooth at this point, but out of curiosity is the headset physically painful or are you talking about volume levels?

I went out looking for the PX21, and came home with a Triton AX720 for something like $10 more. Excellent headset so far, the sound is really good and they are pretty comfortable, and really easy to set up. I'll let you know if I have any problems.

The AX720's are pretty nice, if a bit bulky.

I got a free pair of Alienware TactX's today, which are super lightweight. You can't even feel them, they seem pretty sturdy, retractable mic (yet to test), and sound pretty good. I normally wouldn't recommend anything from alienware, but these are pretty good. PC only though I believe.

They work out very well, however if you are sitting next to a Wireless Access Point or microwave then there is quite a bit of interference. Overall they sound great though, and for games I would always choose them over any other headset I have used.
