No, one of the main appeals of Brink is that you won't be killed instantly before having a chance to react.

And couldn't you have a waited at least a couple hours after finding out about this to make a topic about it?

I'll wait to see how the game plays first. If it makes more people stop sniping and wade into the trenches I won't complain.

I just don't want sniping to be readily available to everyone. There's tons of people in FPS's that play sniper just because it's cool. And then there's those that quickscope, which in reality would not work. If there's going to be one hit headshots (which I do not want) the first 3-4 seconds of looking down a scope would have complete inaccuracy, sense there are very few people who can get a good sight picture in that time alone.

I agree. I've grown so tired of seeing I have a full team in objective based games just to discover ~75% of them are a bunch of snipers huddled together fighting over the few kills that present themselves. Granted, those same people will probably look for next easy low risk, "high reward" (for those who care about K/D) style to abuse, but at least they'll probably be closer to being useful than they otherwise would have been.

Due to the different bodytypes and buffs, its impossible to have a simple equation like your last option in the poll. With a damage buffed short rifle, it may be possible to kill a light in 1 shot (or nearly one shot), but that same rifle unbuffed against a health buffed light may take 2 shots. Totally unbuffed on both sides, I would assume mediums take around 2-3 headshots with an assault rifle. And heavies would be able to take even more on top of that.

There are just too many variables to guess much. But it has been confirmed several times over that there are no one hit kills in the game, besides backstabs (exclusive to operatives), and possibly sniping lights with a buffed short rifle.

And thank goodness for that. I hate not being able to do anything about my death when it comes to sniper. It's not that I was a worse player. It's not that I overlooked something. It's just I was walking down the wrong path. And with the enormous agility and mobility of the Brink characters, it should be harder to land a sniper shot at all, let alone a buffed headshot on my light character.

Yes, I've always been of the opinion that a one-hit-kill anything shouldn't be in games. No matter how much skill it takes the opponent to kill you with one shot, it can completely remove your own skill from the equation. Even if a headshot can take away half of your health or more, the chance to return fire puts the outcome back into your own hands.

Headshots should do increased damage, but they shouldnt kill in one hit. Just as in TF2, this game appears it won't allow a team of snipers or you are going to be really handicaped unlike other "realistic" shooters(limited objective completions, easily countered by class combos, etc ). I'm ok with the idea of a 2 headshot sniper kill, even a 2-4 shot kill for non-headshot depending on class. When that first one hits, gives you realtive direction and strength based on the redness that appears, its your fault for not taking cover in my opinion. You are never going to be anywhere without an escape option with the SMART system from what I can see. At the very least you can be one hell of a hard target to hit.

I think the developers have stated somewhere that headshots will do increased damage, and with the right buffs on the weapon, a player could kill a light body type with one headshot, considering they don't have any buffs themselves.

I don't believe that a one shot, one kill approach would work out well with the way Brink is approaching multi-player gameplay. At the same time I do not want the advantages of being a sniper (a good one) to be completely annulled either. As long as a head shot does increased damage I shall be perfectly content.

Then content you will be, as that is what they plan to do.

Good to hear, I like when games are just everything you've hoped they would be.

I'd rather headshots do x1.5-1.75 more damage, one thing I hate is how in FPS's people can 1 hit you with a SMG by spraying in your general direction.

If a buffed sniper kills and unbuffed light in one headshot, and that is probably the only exception I would be ok with a one headshot kill(still iffy, but I can see the logic). Light armor advantage is speed/deception, not durability.
With the videos I've seen, it seems to take a decent bit to kill people unles you have a nade launcher.

If it is possible to ohk a light unbuffed with a buffed weapon (talking about those which do most base damage) by hitting the head, lights should have really small heads, though.

I would say: Wolf ET style: generally 4 headshots to kill someone. However, body types will be taken into account and high damage rifles should obviously require less headshots to kill someone. I'd say you need a scheme to figure it all out: Weapon type, buffed/unbuffed weapon, buffed/unbuffed player, body type, distance, ...

That's a lot of info to put together...
Just a side note, I was looking at the Brink Wiki, on the odd case it had new information, and it's pathetic to say the least. It's mainly just advertisemant for clans, which shouldn't be in a wiki at all, and doesn't have half of the new Brink info.

Just sayin'.

thanks for all ur comments u all brought up a good point and i agree to some point but i feel that snipers should be able to kill easier then most but not in one hit more like 2 or 3 shots to head because i agree with appled snipers shouldent be one hit kills and if they are they should have ethier a slow fire rate or slower turning with a scope so its hard to aim or the sniper wobbles alittle just enough that its harder to aim but not imposible

Remember the sniper rifle is a light weapon. With buffs and body types it hard to figure it out. Doubtless someone will once the game is out. Min/maxers can fix anything.

Brink is incredibly up close and personal if you're sniping then I guess one could say "you're doing it wrong." From the maps we've seen their are barely any spots for suitable sniping. Most of the paths are narrow winding and with SMART thrown into the picture makes everyone a far harder target to hit. While one could "snipe" I guarantee they will not be as efficient as their allies who are working as a team and getting objectives done. While our "Sniper" is raking up kills or "Supporting the team by giving "Covering Fire."

Just once I want a FPS to do hyper realistic sniping, waiting in miserable conditions for hours or days on end, peeing in jars, and not making one sound or else you're dead. Oh and if you're captured you are killed in more horrible ways then other POWs because the enemy calls you a coward. I wonder how many people would snipe then.

Short of some sort of virtual reality, that would basically just become trying to make players avoid sniping because its really boring. Also, law enforcement and urban sniping situations don't require such extremes, its often "sit on this rooftop and wait for permission to shoot."

My only wish is that a game actually requires you to lie prone in order to snipe. standing or even crouching while holding a 30lb gun, where even a half of a degree means your shot is off by a few feet or so, just isn't practical. Nor is using a scope point blank that is intended for at least 100 yards. Get yourself a pair of binoculars, and then try to focus on a wall that's 10 feet away, it cant be done, and that's a much weaker magnification than a scope.

That's just the kind of "realism" game like Call of Duty should shoot for, instant of making scopeshots a viable option.

Lying prone while sniping was one of my favorite ways to kill in CoD: Modern Warfare when it first released. It's a move that I believe should be in every FPS released, going prone is very very useful.
