Healing gets you no XP, REALLY ZOS?

Post » Sat Mar 22, 2014 8:59 am

This is a problem. If I'm a healer and just focusing on healing my buddy. If I don't do damage to the enemy, i will not get any XP for that fight. This is just awful!

Surprised you have enough magicka regen to be able to just heal constantly - if you're standing waiting for it to regen instead of attacking using stamina based skills whilst your magicka regenerates then you should try that.

This.

There is no situation where you will be able to heal someone constantly, nor should you have to. If your teammates' health is constantly dropping, it's because they're getting hit by avoidable damage.

Healing is different in ESO. It's not meant for you to just stand in the back and heal meat shields.

That is funny, healing has always gone well in the team xp concept. I wonder if there will be many players willing to forgo xp to be healers.

Wait, they do have meat shields though right? :D

I've never played an MMO without them!

Also to add that the OP's groupmates should be helping out with healing a bit themselves, a dps Nightblade can use Strife to heal him/herself and 2 nearest allies, and should use that to help out when necessary. Leaving it all to the healer is not going to work well in this game.

This.

Plus, monster XP is small compared to quest line XP so even if you decide 'Hey, I want to RP a guy who is too cowardly to attack and instead heals' you will still get 90% the XP as other players. Also, let us not forget how ridiculously easy the leveling in this game is so getting no XP for heals should never be a problem.

Start getting used to not having them. Everyone in the group needs to be using block/dodge mechanics, including the tank. There is no combination of skills/attribute allocation that will allow someone to stand around and just keep taking damage.

Seems like it is too easy to over-level anyway, and a lot of exp. coming from quests as opposed to mob grinding.

I hear healing still gives points in cyrodiil, but didn't get a chance to check out the specifics myself.

Don't one get restro staff skill points? If one use a skill (like a healing skill from a Templar), doesn't one get that skill better? Better skill = XP for char levels? Isn't how the system work right? Also, just having a skill on the hot bar, it gets some XP as well. The better skill = more XP for char level?

That will be new then because I normally play dedicated healers. No real attacking or anything, just extra DPS while I heal the meat shield.

I found a weird scaling "deadspot" when leveling. I had plenty of quests up to a certain point, then there seemed to be this vacuum around level 16-20+ I got to 18, but there were no quests my level at all that I could find in Grahtwood. Only level 20+ that were too hard.

People told me to go to cyrodiil. Did anyone else find that or did I just not find certain things? I had the whole map explored I thought...but I guess there's something I missed?

there is no point during questing in which your buddy is taking so much dmg you cannot use a single dmging attack to contribute. Sounds like lazy heal spamming syndrome

my advice is to invest in healing a little but in early game but a bit more on dps skills either wise it is going to be hard for you when you are stuck in solo instances as part of the story quests,

I heard similar things in zone chat, but didn't experience it myself. Cyrodiil does have repeatable quests, so if you are into PvP I think it would be more desirable than grinding PvE enemies.

How about group dungeons? (question open to anyone) I could see experience gains from enemies being different...

in pve i dont care but does that happen in cyodiil as well? if so you won′t see many healers there as you cant spam any attacker with singel attacks while healing your teammates...

i specifically remember a quote from a dev stating that in order to get xp from a mob you had to have significant contribution(healing or dmg)

and the guy i had the discussion with said he got xp from healing people not from doing dmg

did they change this?

edit: oh wait maybe that was about loot

im pretty sure i got alliance points from healing in pvp, havent grouped much in pve so cant say, but it would be a bad implementation if it really is like that

Did you do the starter isle also? Usually it's fairly fluid levelling this way.

Nah it was the other guy, and the people in zone chat with the issue. I actually experienced the complete opposite; I ended up getting over-leveled.

Perhaps it was a difference in factions? I was in Ebonheart. Didn't even finish half the quests in Stonehills or do Grotto and was over-leveling.

I did do the starter island because my char was made before the change to that. Um I didn't do any dungeons because I didn't really know what levels they were and I didn't know where they were. I also didn't really ask because I was really enjoying the game outside of dungeons.

I found some repeatable quests in a place in Cyrodiil named Chyrdohal or something in the EBP area but I was AD and the quests were very easy and fast, but I couldn't find more.

There was just this odd vacuum of quest lack for 17-22 it seemed to me, but then again I may have skipped a zone or something. Just found it strange, but I still had fun either which way.

EDIT: To clarify I was a Khajiit in Alderai Dominion and the area that had weird scaling (to me) was Grahtwood.
