Healing: Greater Wounds or Major Wounds?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 9:56 am

I've had the Heal Major Wounds spell for a long time. But the thing is, it svcks. But it was the best I had.

I just recently bought Heal Greater Wounds.

The difference is:
Heal Major - Heal 25 pts on Self
Heal Greater - Heal 20 pts for 2 seconds

The second one seems worse, but it costs more and uses more magic? Is it doing a little more health or is it just doing 5 less than the original, but taking longer?

Thanks.

The second one will give you 40pts restore health, 20pts/sec which makes it the better of the two. You can make even stronger ones at the Arcane University.

Ok, thanks for the info.

I'm kind of embarrassed - or not really embarrassed, but kind of annoyed at myself. I created a guy with Blade, Block, Marksman and then like 3 magic skills, and what have I done so far?

Hit, block. Hit, block.

I use my bow for the first stealth strike then I whack them with my hitty stick.

I basically created a fighter/mage. So, now my magic attributes are really low and I'm gonna work on that. I'm already level 16! Am I getting too old for this (magic), Danny Glover style?

Youre best bet is to get into the Arcane university and make youre own restore health spells.
A spell like 3 points for 30 seconds will be relatively cheap to cast, depending on your restoration skill level, and give you 90 points of health.Cast these spells before going into battle and come out with just as much health as you had when you went in.

No, but you want to start working on your Intelligence now. Alchemy is also a good idea as it can provide you with Fortify and Restore Magicka which is really helpful. Enchantments is another good idea for a mage

I just spammed a bunch of Conjuration (it was at 13) and levelled it up like five times, and trained my Alchemy 5 times, so I'll nab me some intelligence this time.

I'm also going for more Willpower because my main spells are Willpower.

Btw, I don't mean they're like SUPER low, like 20 or 30, but my Willpower is 59, and my Intelligence is 55 or so. Compared to 85 Strength and 85 Endurance.

I chose Marksman but man, my agility is 40-something. That doesn't bode well. Is it worth working on or should I kind of abandon it?

Skill level affects damage a lot more than attributes. You should be fine for agility. I suggest raising intelligence and willpower mostly and raise agility with an enchantment if you really wanted.

Ah yes. Maybe I'm worrying too much about attributes.

I use my bow for the first stealth strike then I whack them with my hitty stick.

The key with the bow is to make sure that you enchant the correct sort of bow at the university.

A Demoralize bow makes the enemy run away for a short time, preventing them from charging and allowing you to aim the next shot.

So, complete the recommendation quests so you can enter the uni and make-
Shock damage, demoralize & soul trap on the one bow. How much damage you put will depend on the soul gem you have.
Normally around 20 charges is perfect.

It is also important to grab Azura's Star (a reuseable grand soul gem) so that you can always recharge the weapons you have.

Another method is the Drain Speed bow. It makes the enemy forget that the saw you, and allows you to stay hidden.
The drain speed is only available by the Orrey DLC or the Orc glitch.

Firstly, if it's not a major, don't use it at all. It levels way too slowly even as a major - even with Magic as your specialty. It levels extremely slowly. In fact it levels twice as slow as the next slowest leveling skill, if I recall. It's horrible. Potions, either pre-made or self made, are infinitely superior and efficient. But don't ever take Alchemy as a major skill unless you're using a mod that removes level scaling. Seriously.

If you have Restoration as a major, there's two things to consider. For the sake of staying alive, you're gonna wanna use a powerful healing spell. As powerful as you can cast at your level. But at the same time, the skill levels according to how many times any spell is cast, not the power of the spell being cast, so using the strongest spell you can use will cause it to level more slowly.

You're gonna wanna consider both these things, and probably train Restoration at every level to get it to 100. Otherwise you'll probably beat every questline and side quest in the entire game and still not be a Master.

I'd just skip it altogether and use potions from now on, having been down that route before.

Which is the slowest levelling? Not sure what you're referring to. Restoration or Destruction? They both seem insanely slow. Well, Restoration not as much because I always use it, but Destruction isn't a major and it takes SOOOOO LONG.

I never said I needed to be a Master by the end of the game, but maybe with Restoration you should be to be efficient with it?

Anyway, the best spell I can use at this restoration level is... still not that great.

Also no, Alchemy is a Minor. It doesn't really go up either though because... well, I don't go and collect ingredients on purpose. I just put together whatever I have once in awhile. If I see a sack, I'll grab it's leek or cheese or whatever... but I don't go on nature walks picking berries.

I'll try to word this in a way that adheres to General discussion. Both Destruction and Restoration increase relatively slowly, but Restoration increases exactly 1/2 as fast as Destruction does, insofar as raw skill points gained per successful casting.

There are other factors. Major skills have lower thresholds for skill level increases than minors do, and minor skills that are part of your chosen specialty also have lower thresholds, but not quite as low. Skills that are both major *and* part of your specialty have the lowest thresholds for increases of all.

Best case scenario: Magic specialty, Restoration as a Major.
Next best: Not a Magic Specialist, with Restoration as a Major.
Second worst: Magic specialist, with Restoration as a Minor.
Worst: Not a Magic specialist, with Restoration as a Minor.
