Post » Mon Nov 08, 2010 3:34 am

Im a fan of Black Ops and MW2 (BUT NEVER A F-A-N-B-O-Y) and i heard that brink will have no health regen. Why? I mean come on! The medics can still be there to revive. Im still getting this awesome game though. :mohawk: :gun:

Actually there is health regen but I don't think it's that fast. Also you can only regenerate your original health. That means when a medic buffs your health, you don't regenerate that back when you lose it, just the original health

It does regen, but it takes much longer than most modern FPSes. One, that promotes teamwork and lowers the ability to lone-wolf.

Two, your health is shown as segments. There's a really big segment that is your main health, and smaller segments that are medic buffs and abilites. You only regen up to the end of the segement, so if you're about to die, you'll heal the one large segment up, but the smaller segments won't regen, and you need a medic for that.

Think of it like being crippled. You heal up to a certain amount, but your health is still "crippled" until a medic heals you properly.

There is some health regen. The health bar is cut into multiple sections, and each section regenerates. But if you lose a whole section you'll need a medic to heal you up. The last section is the largest, so if you lose all your others you'll still have a bit to work with.

The health bar looks something like this (very rough representation, of course):
[+++++++++++++] [+++++] [+++++] [+++++]
Each section has separate regeneration, at least until you lose that section completely.

EDIT: I got ninja'd. My internet is being weird today. :P

Learn to play. Welcome to the forums, amicus. (If we can even call them forums anymore..) :spotted owl:

Heres a manly :turtle:.

Now, health regeneration I thought was always a horrible implement into the FPS genre. It forces everyone to do their own thing, which is fine if you playing any other game, but Brink is heavily focused on teamplay, so a health regeneration system wouldn't do much to create the image they want.

Hopefully that will help you see their point of view.

Health regen is crap anyways. Should have never been added to FPS games in the first place.

Actually it should have. Certain games don't work well with health packs. Also it doesn't really show a players skill when they get a kill losing some health then one guy shoots them with one bullet and their dead, while they have no chance to kill someone after their previous battle. But half of FPS games shouldn't have health regen I'll give you that.

For games that actually have medics I see your point but sometimes medics don't always do their job.

Welcome.

I'm much of a supporter of the health system due to the fact that you really can't regenerate your health in a matter of seconds as opposed to the real world.

It also encourages for you to depend on your teammates more rather than yourself; you will be needing a medic a lot.

Heh, L2POGLSCRUB!!!11!11!!

But really, cmon guys.
The serious answers to his questions would be:
1) There are two kinds of command posts (I believe), one that gives health one that gives ammo.
2) There are medics in the game that will heal. Shooters like CoD don't have medics.

Edit: Oh, and heres a complimentary :turtle: .

COD's just generally frowned upon around here. It's cool to see someone who's migrating from COD, but it sometimes irks a few members to see this game compared to COD.

I don't think he really compared. He just stated that he is used to something and hopes that it's in the game. I wouldn't really consider that comparing.

Aye, where Call of Duty made the modern FPS and every new game is a general clone of Call of Duty.

Brink's trying to break away from Call of Duty's expectations, so naturally the community of Brink will break away from Call of Duty. You'll find we're rather hostile to Call of Duty.

I personally HATE health regen. Nothing is more annoying than shooting some guy so many times that he is talking to Death just for him to hide behind a rock for 3 seconds and be back at full health again. :banghead:

Having limited health makes you pick your engagements better. If your low on health you might NOT run blindly into a group of enemies or shoot at everything that moves. By making you pick when to engage your targets you might start to think strategically and look for alternate routes to take to achieve your end goal. You might actually have more motivation to go after objectives since you'll be ineffective in combat. You might actually get to a point where you think quickly and make spilt second decisions to confuse the enemy, which could maybe change the whole game play experience each time you play a match. Inversely you might have to react to people using different strategies and adapt on the fly to them. It might take some moderate IQ and brain power for you to play and be successful, as opposed to using a repetitive pattern. Besides, the best players in any game without health regen are the ones that don't get seen, and/or shoot first and accurately. After all you might have to think when you play Brink.

So far, this game is sounding more and more realistic than the games who TRY to be realistic. No Health Regen means you have to work as a team, you can't just go Rambo and take tons of damage, hide for 10 seconds, wash, rinse, and repeat.

I loved when there wasn't much health regen, but I'd like to point out that, based on the newest videos, it looks like the health regen is fairly standard, actually. You still need medics to top off the buffs, and the health granted by Battle Hardened does not regenerate, but it looks like all of your base health regenerates now, and not just segments individually. I can't be sure until I've played, of course, but that's what it looked like to me. Unless there are no dividers to differentiate between the health sections, but that just wouldn't make sense, especially since there used to be. So my take is that full health regen is actually back in. :(

It looks to me like there's been two health pips that are small, then the "main health" portion on every health bar in any recent footage I've seen - That would be medic buff + Battle Hardened, presumably.

And the "main health" bar is pretty huge in comparison.

But they smaller pips do regenerate if you only take a couple of hits and your health is still at their level - so if you have FULL full health, and don't lose a whole pip before taking cover, you'll regain that level. If you drop into your second pip, you'll regen to full on that section, but not to 100% full. If you drop into your "main health" bar, you've still got a solid amount of health to work with, even if it is diminished enough to leave you vulnerable.
