Health revamp?

Well then they should add that to the game. Loose enough sleep and you start fighting enemies that aren't there. Resulting in you waisting ammo on your hallucinations.

Caff-o-Nitro-Maximate!

Ask your doctor if it's right for you!

Do you spend too many hours in the day sleeping? Do you have too much work to do and too little time? Is your boss a megalomaniac who insists that you work 36 hour shifts per day?

Stay awake for longer with Caffonitromaximate! You'll have more energy than you've ever had before. Power through your feeble human trappings... and become Maximated!

'Warning: Use of Caffonitromaximate may cause: Amnesia, Painful Death, Rectal Seepage, the growth of warts, forgetting the birthdays of loved ones, Exploding Tumor Syndrome, Cancer, Bad Breath, Foot Rot, Gill Rot, severe Dry Skin, Allergies to Shellfish, the growth of a shell, Schizophrenia, Mild to Serious bouts of Insanity, Hallucinations, Complete Psychosis, various forms of fungal infection, Gender Instability, Dark Humor, Diarrhea, Constipation, a belief in Fairy-Tale Logic, and in very rare cases, Insomnia. You should not take Caffonitromaximate if you are pregnant or capable of making anyone else pregnant. If you notice any sudden to severe cerebral hemorrhaging, consult your physician immediately. Results may vary.'

Might want to warn them about the megalomania, adoption of Keynesian economic theory, oily rectal discharge, and explosive maple syrup perspiration.

Hrm looking at it's name, I think they'd probably want to add smoking and or open ignition sources to the warning, as going by the name it could be potentially explosive if exposed to an open flame.

I think the "Health system" should be redesigned with three parts:

Condition: Have you been shot recently?--Fixed by: Doctors, Stim-packs, blood-packs

Radiation: Same as last time: environment dishes it out, you flush it out with rad-away or other cures.

Sustenance: Three parts of a "Staying Alive" bar. If FOOD, WATER or SLEEP fall to zero, you die( :o EDIT: dying by running out of sleep is pretty stupid, I admit, so there will only be a CHANCE of being killed/mugged while unconscious. Try to fall indoors.) . Affects overall speed and endurance (by which I mean how easily you're hurt, not the stat itself) .

WWWWWWWWWWSSSSSSSSSSFFFFFFFFFF

So, for example, you could have food and water at max, but sleep at half, so you function at 5/6 endurance and speed

WWWWWWWWWWSSSSSFFFFFFFFFF

No. The system should made it where food and water dont heal, but sleep actually doing damage to you is dumb.

Umm I think that system would piss some people off, perhaps have it setup that you can CHOOSE to have damage done to your health and stats due to lack of sleep/food/water but have that option only for those who want it. Personally I'd find it nothing but a nuisance, for a hard core RPG'er on the other hand they'd enjoy it. Hell if you're shooting for realism I don't think a shot can fix an arm or leg mangled by an explosion....

This.

While the FO3 system could definitely use a slight improvement, keep in mind that in most RPGs, HP, "Hit Points" do not necessarily mean the amount of physical damage: HP are supposed to be your ability to COPE with threats.

Because, hey, we all now all the "health" in the world matters squat to a square bullet to the head, right? cause if it the system were that realistic, one or two bullets would leave you as a quivering mess on the ground.

So while you actually don't see it animated, it helps to think of HP decreasing while you're being shot to mean that you're dodging the bullets. :P and when it's close to zero it means you're too tired to dodge any more.

Some RPG systems (such as the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storytelling_System and I think http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gurps) and most CRPGs of late (Dragon Age, FO3) have gone for a separate system to denote actual "injuries" or crippling. Nothing's near perfect, though, but they're improving.

This.

People, do not argue about realism in a Fallout game. There is nothing realistic about it.

While I hate re-posting ideas, I'll say it again: going for days without sleep makes you slower and more vulnerable to injuries, and if you fall unconscious...(deep breath) IN THE MIDDLE OF A RAIDER AND CANNIBAL INFESTED, MUTATED FAUNA FILLED WASTELAND...then you will NOT wake up without some serious luck (possible perk?) or being indoors at least.

Having a companion would mean you'd be safe, but even if someone civilized found you all alone, they'd still take all your stuff. Rare items? Gone with the wind. Armor? Being sold in Arroyo right now.

I don't know about other people, but I specifically play games as an escape from "Realism."
Honestly If a system like this was implemented and wasn't an OPTION, I would not be buying the game at all.

It seems odd to me that this massively unrealistic world has been created, and people want more realism.

jeez ,how many of these threads have been started?
if the game had realistic health you would die at the start of the game after being shot.
even if you survived you would be a vegetable who spent all day in goodsprings..

Its time for some people to understand its just a game where you will be shot about 1000 times for fun.
Its not realistic in any way and isnt supposed to be,

Apparently the concept of 'video game' needs to just be thrown right out the window and piss on it's back. Seriously, what's with all of these 'realism' here, or 'realism' there. It's so very tacky. I remember a time when people played video games for fun, not 'IF IT AINT REALISTIC, I DON'T WANT TO PLAY IT DERP DERP'.

If you're on PC, three words:
Fallout Wanderer's (or Courier's, in this case) Edition
Or Real Injuries

People don't want that level of realism but they want the game to be a little realistic and more challenging since in Fo3 you were basically invincible.
