I've heard some things about Nvidia and AMD...

Yyyeah. Kind of suspicious.

Having just bought an AMD R9 380 in preparation for this game, I must say that this worries me. The fact that Bethesda is making use of gameworks effects which, by their very DESIGN, are meant to sabotage and impede the performance of AMD hardware.

Did I make a mistake in buying the R9 380? Is this a game breaker? Or is the performance/graphical difference negligible?

I doubt Bethesda would screw over so many PC users like, so I wouldn't be worried. And if they do, you can understand the [censored]-storm that will come with it.

Indeed. If they thought people were mad about the paid mods debacle, this would be a nightmare.

I honestly don't get why anyone would buy an amd product. Sure, you might get slightly more bang for your buck, if your willing to live with more power consumption/noise/heat. But dear god the driver support is downright lousy.

Well, Beth is already screwing some of the pc customers with their Konami/Warner Bros tactics. Now I realize they don't give a pissing care if you have slow internet speed. I won't be surprised either that in the future they will no longer issue their mod kit for free. The bigger they're becoming the more they're looking like a Ubisoft clone - where pc players are treated like second class citizens and all are guilty until proven innocent.

But don't both consoles run on AMD hardware?

AMD's driver support is MUCH better than it was a few years ago, so that argument doesn't really apply anymore.

Power consumption though is valid. But since I have headphones, and this room is always cold, noise and heat aren't really an issue.

Obviously Nvidia software will work better on Nvidia Video Cards. Sabotage requires intent so until video of Nvidia executives twirling their mustaches while planning the downfall of AMD through Gameworks surfaces, then it is just the opinion of an AMD employee.

Ugh...I hope this isn't why there's such a disrepancy in the min requirements for GPU hardware...Radeon 7870 vs the generally weaker GTX 550 Ti.

They even mention about this discrepancy in the first article, but there is no thorough testing been done yet to determine anything.

There's still also no official word on what from Gameworks, if anything significant, would make it onto the game.

This would be a rather confusing move if ends up true considering both PS4 and XB1 consoles use AMD hardware (CPU and GPU). Only PC Nvidia users get the Nvidia perks? This would be a whine-fest waiting to happen.

I am of the opinion that Bethesda just picked equipment from about 3 years ago for their minimum requirements and called it a day. Figuring out the minimum requirements to play the game would require a ton of work and resources.

It seems to me that there won't be a big difference in graphic quality but I won't know till I play the game

Maybe it will something like turning off or dropping down a notch different graphic attributes

But if you have a good GPU you should be fine

It's no secret that Nvidia makes good products and has done so for several years its been an overwhelming trend perhaps for too long but that doesn't give anyone a leg on bashing a company really???

So is it wrong that Nvidia is pushing out some promo prizes for the game is that next? Cause uh Nvidia usually does make promo offers on new titles and this go the company is pushing the GTX 970 as being the go to card for Fo4 from all appearances as of today.

:) Fingers crossed that Fo4 has PhysX

Not listening to haters ><

Hope Hoping want more FPS ><

AMD is partly to blame for not being competitive enough in the last few year's, they have lost a lot of the GPU marketshare to Nvidia, so Nvidia will dominate the PC game space in this way, i think it's better for all, if there is healthy competition, so AMD needs to step up their game and i'm an Nvidia user.

This

AMD wins out on cheaper cards cost per power. On the higher/mid end though Nvidia wins out in alot regards. The 970 980TI and Titan X are all great flagship cards that have their own purpose and excel greatly at what they do. It also doesn't help that devs perfer to use gameworks over its AMD equivalent.

I state these as an opinion, my loyalties belong to the company that makes the best components, this is also combined with the fact that my two(about to be four) Nvidia cards ive used in my gaming career have been very reliable.

I've got a few Nvidia Cards and I really like these but uh I have no real clue about AMD haven't had an AMD product for about 7 years or so.

If Gameworks or PhysX is in this Fo4 well that'd be something nice maybe I might get use out of two of my cards or pick up another card to pair off in SLI with my main. Going to wait on that and see how it all plays out on Nov 10th though.

The article mentions that both AMD and nVidia worked directly with Bethesda to optimize the game for their devices. If that means nVidia introduced some GameWorks tech for when running on an nVidia card and AMD introduced some AMD-specific tech (or generic-only tech) for when running on their graphics card, then it isn't Bethesda or nVidia's fault for the game being poorly optimized on AMD cards (if that's even the case).

I look at it this way. AMD has the entire console share. So obviously Bethesda has to work with them in that market. To appease Nvidia a bit, it's not surprising if they optimize their games on PC towards them. Still, I don't think that's really the case. AMD probably doesn't care much about the PC market. They have the entire console market now after all. PC is becoming the side burner for them.

I've never had any problems running games that utilize nVidia GameWorks on AMD hardware.

I usually just have to turn off some specific nVidia graphics thing (like the special nVidia Hairworks in The Witcher 3, for example) and the game works fine.

i think it will work fine and they will look for amd users alike

and AMD is VERY important - its important they can make a turnaround and bloom up again, in fact i'd like to see another big competitor enter the market! Imaginge if nvidia is the only one left? You like paying 50% more for your gpu? You like having technological progress slowed by 50%? Cause thats exactly what happens with a lack of competition...

Seems it's almost getting to that point with AMD more or less looking at the consoles for its main source of revenue.

Of course I'd like another player to get into the market. But the cost of entry is so high I don't think it'll happen anytime soon.

i change my graphic card early this year and i was on the same problem huge fan of AMD on the pass, since they give me a more stable graphic product but Nvidia have move head now, so i end going with them.

no to the OP you didn't make a mistake with that GPU choice.

yes the differences are negligible and in the case below gameworks HURTS performance.

I have owned both GPU vendors proudly.

Just bought a 980 before the Witcher 3 launched and if the hair works in that game was any indication, it had WAY to much of a performance impact to see slightly better wavy hair. I turned it off an easily got 10 FPS better performance.

I wouldn't worry about it honestly.

The Hairworks and PhysX from Nvidia are pretty intense at least in Witcher 3, if you google up dedicated PhysX Card you'll find a few articles that point out that basically you have to have 2 Nvidia cards but these do not need to be the same or SLI'd.

The article I read suggested that even with SLI 980Ti that's 2 cards that a third card dedicated to PhysX would allow for full PhysX Hairworks. The amount of gains was 10-40% depending on 980TI or 980Ti SLI. Thing is I have EVGA 970 SSC with a GTX 580 on hand and so I tried it out and yes it gives substantial gains in cases where those graphics options are used. I got to play in 1080p full graphics and PhysX pretty much at 55-60 FPS except in the big city Novagrad. Outdoors was mostly 60FPS.

It'd be really wicked cool if Fo4 offered some sort of capability like that where we can just plug in a much cheaper card to handle some of the load like we can with games like Witcher, unfortunately Nvidia is the only one I know of that offers such a thing and only for relatively few games but they are cool games.

On paper you get more hardware resources.. Recent games have shown that nvidia cards perform better, cooler and more stable with less issues. And ofcourse the excellent gameworks features.

I'm never getting any amd product anymore... Loud, hot, poor drivers and a lot of stability issues. Intel cpus and nvidia cards for me..
