Yes, it was recorded on the XBOX 360

And yet people still complain about the textures.

Apart from the rendered scenes of Alduin's Wall, everything shown in the trailer was recorded using the XBox version, as stated http://twitter.com/DCDeacon/statuses/40799803394756608 and http://twitter.com/nickbreckon/statuses/40815330838188032.

"To answer many questions at once: the Skyrim trailer was captured entirely on Xbox 360. Also, none of the draw-distance was faked."

If the PC version features higher res textures, DX11 features, etc. then Skyrim will look pretty damn good, even for having the console as the lowest common denominator. However, the textures as they are look very low res, and the models are really low poly (they need tessellation).

That's what it'll look like on 360? I think the trailer looked pretty damn sixy tbh. But bear in mind, the game isn't finished yet, so the stuff may still be rough around the edges.

Well, we have no indication of what they'll look like on the PC version, so naturally, we're going to judge the game by what we have seen, and all images we've seen are on the Xbox 360 version. If Bethesda wants to stop people from complaining about the textures, they should show pictures of the PC version, assuming there is any improvement significant enough to be worth showing.

Though the textures in the video didn't bother me so much, what did bother me was the general lack of quality in the water effects, and "It was console graphics" is not excuse or that as I've played games on the Xbox 360 with water that looked much better than that.

And we still have nearly a year until release, imagine how much better those graphics can get.

People can winge and whine all they like about the textures. The fact is, it's still nine or ten months from release, and they've already got it looking epic as hell. They have a lot of time to make it even better than it is in the trailer. I'm sooooo looking forward to when/if they release the gameplay videos. Like they did for Oblivion when they released like 5 vids showcasing what you could do in the game. I'm hoping that will be on track for the Easter to summer period. I guess summer would be more likely, but Easter would be nice. Do you hear me, Bethesda? Easter. Please? Pretty please? :D

I'm not surprised it was captured on 360 Todd Howard has stated many times it is his preferred gaming platform. Looks pretty great for Xbox!

I wish people would stop assuming that just because the game is not finished yet means the graphics are going to look better upon release. I mean, look at Oblivion, did the finished game look better than the early screenshots or our first looks at the game in motion? Now, while things in the current build may be subject to change before release, I suspect that what we've seen in the trailer is more or less in the state Bethesda expects it to be released in, barring possible polishing. After all, why would Bethesda intentionally show things that they know don't look as good as they will in the finished product?

Ironically, you just brought up perfect evidence to counter the argument that if the game looks so good now, it must look even better than it's released. Note for example the fact that one of these videos demonstrates dynamic object shadows, something that was cut before the game's release, in its place, we got only actor shadows and tree canopy shadows.

Game studios do that all the time, the point of the trailers is to get people excited so they'll preorder and buy the game. It also gives them feedback on what they need to improve on before release and with the aforementioned nine months I'm sure they'll have time to polish things up.

Well the high quality textures will probably be the last thing they add in, as only PC will get that. For now, they are going to work on actually completing the core game. Once it's done, they will start refining and polishing.

Also that was white water, and it actually looked quite amazing. Just look at the way the water brushes off the rocks in the waterfall. There is a lot more quality behind it than people are giving it credit.

Only because they didn't know about the xbox360 specs so that's why it was removed. They are working on the game with the console specs well known this time which is why I think the game WILL look/play better then it currently is.

ill start by admitting that im a graphics [censored]. the water was......bleh and i certainly hope that it gets improved because its hard if not impossible to mod water except for color and clarity. the flowing water reminded me of the water used in dragon knight saga. if they can get bioshocks water to look half decent on a console then there is no reason not to have skyrims water looking as good or at least close. bioshock was released 2 years ago.

now to the positive stuff. buildings npcs and objects appeared to cast shadows which was a HUGE issue for me. :) shadows add so much to the "look" of a game world that when they are not their it is very ugly and artificial looking. the textures are a bit low res but they certianly looked better than oblivions default textures and frankly im not to concerned because at least on the PC textures can be replaced. i think it looked like they had HDR lighting implemented better than in oblivion as well although the sun segment was so short i only saw the flare and couldnt tell if the view adapted or not. overall though im very pleased. :)

one thing i cant tell is if they were using global lighting which is something else that makes game worlds look so much better. maybe someone can confirm or deny this.
