[RELZ] Heart of the Dead Quest Mod - Thread #4

Post » Thu May 12, 2011 8:09 pm

I got to the huge hub and I'm almost done with it. I sent Viconia home, there's no way a companion is going to get through that part! Great stuff and difficult, which is good.

Really enjoying this mod ... not-so-standard puzzles and storyline, interesting characters with real motives--very well done! :celebration: The only (relatively minor) problem I've had is that the video/dream sequences aren't kicking in as they should. I believe that's due in part to me having the See You Sleep mod enabled in the first stages of the quest; the first video kicked in all right, but at the end of the sequence I was left without any character control at all. After disabling SYS, my character doesn't dream anymore. I know I'm missing out on much of the atmosphere of the mod, but I don't know how to fix it... I've only been able to trigger one of the other dreams manually--I'm hoping they're quest-stage dependent, so I can see the rest.

That's a lot of mods. :) This is a conflict with another mod, but I haven't been able to tell which one yet. Basically there is another mod out there that adjusts the player's health and the way he heals, which makes my automatic healing crash. Like I said, I have no clue which one.

I would suggest you unclick mods until you can figute which one is conflicting, but you have a ton of mods and that might be a pain. I really have no clue which mod is conflicting...

-Middark

Ok, found it. For some reason http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25536 was causing the crash, all that it's supposed to do is change the respawn rate on dungeon's and the like. Fortunately it's more of a cosmetic mod than anything else. Thanks for the help :)

Edit:
or not.. it fixes the heal font problem but the heal on teleport script, and actually seems to make it worse- before I could toggle clipping and the heal script wouldnt' crash me, but now it crashes regardless of clipping or not... back to the drawing board I guess.

Wow, quite an impressive-looking mod! I can't wait to play it once I'm done with Oblivion main quest (just finished Siege of Bruma). I just watched the youtube video and the mod looks intriguing. Nice work! :goodjob:

BTW- I just downloaded some of Sean Beeson's music and it's great so far. The themes in "The Land of Eternity" sound very Oblivion-like. I will probably add some of his music to my OB music folders.

I have an issue and need help.

I talked to the dragon and after that I headed to the Inn in Skingrad. When I talk to Kat she says she has no greeting. It looks like a stage didn't advance.

I need the quest code and stage numbers so I can do a SetStage and advance the quest. I'm not sure what I did wrong. I have the dragon statue.

Her dialog ends the quest and setting HOD04.LastStage to 10 should've fixed that. Such a random bug...

Well, I have an extreme fix, but I can't guarantee what it will do. :)

setstage HOD04 250

So what exactly does she say when you set HOD04.LastStage to 10 and then talk to her?

-Middark

She says "good day".

Yeah, your fix really worked somehow. The quest updated, she appeared in front of me and didn't try to talk to me. She also has dialog "Stats" where I can look what her skill are, but unfortunately there isn't anything else. Example, I can't order her to "Wait" or "Follow". As you say, pretty random.

Well, I don't really dare to bother you with this case anymore. Looks like this problem is a little unique and - even though I doubt it - it could be caused by some kind of mod conflict. I still appreciate you for your help, thanks for trying (:.

It was also a very interesting mod, good work.

Great mod, but I seem to have run into a problem.

The Reaver Boss fell in the lava, and so I can't loot him, and ergo can't get his skull to progress past the door. :/ I even did TCL in the console to see if I could go down and find him in the lava, but I can't. I'd really rather not go back to an older save, but it's looking like I may have to.

You probably will have to. I was stuck so I restarted and figured out what I had done before so now I do unique saves. One skeleton boss fell into some water and I realized what he had that I needed. I was lucky it was water. It's very difficult to prevent things like that from happening.

I'm enjoying Katriana. Her and Viconia make a good team.

So, I've been playing on off for a while and I am about to have my first "dream". I just die when I enter the dream - is it because I am a vampire?

Great V.O.!

Cheers!

I was having almost the same problem as someone reported above. I'd placed all of the dragon statues and entered the Dream World, but punching any of the buttons (which is supposed to teleport my character back to the pillar) resulted in an instant CTD. I did get a brief message on screen that said 'Spell fixed' at one of them, although I don't know what that meant. If I bypassed the pillar with TCL, the strange green portal CTD'd my game even faster than I could blink... Just FYI, I was able to get past the green portal after disabling LAME (Less Annoying Magic Experience), although parts of it were still being imported into the bashed patch, so the earlier segments that unlock the pillar still didn't work.

I have the same issue only with Dublin and after I finished talking with Wintermoon. Something went wrong as the summon spell stopped working as well. Is there something wrong? Is there a way to move forward in a "safe way"? Middark any ideas?

And I have this issue also and I tend believe it is related with the first one because of my experience with my first play-through of this mod, an earlier version. At that time, the strange liquid and the adding of the healing spell would cause instant CTD's. This time around, before the Skingrad issue, I was able to use the strange liquid without any problems which leads me to believe that something went wrong along the way.

I don't know if it is important, but I thought of mentioning it, maybe it has some relevance. In the first two dream sequences the character gets stripped of everything when they start, but in the third one this doesn't happen, the stripping begins before the waking up.

It is a great mod and I hope there is a way for these issues to be solved. The first time I went through the scripts and deleted the spells. I'm taking a break now and I will wait for a while, maybe I won't have to do it again...

Thanks,
Larade

Katriana is no longer summonable. I still have the mod checked. Not sure why the spell no longer works. It all comes back to why I don't use CM Partners.

The problem seems to be that the high level mystic heal spell is flagged as an ability rather than a spell. This is an easy fix in the CS. look for hodmysticheal5 or something very similer

It worked for me! After changing it in the CS I was able to go through the "The dream of the Dead" without any problems. It is a simple and neat solution.
Thanks a lot!

No... still didn't work.

To be on the safe side I changed all the mystic heals into spells (from HODMysticHeal01 to HODMysticHealAll). Maybe then it will work for you too.

(edited to add:)What about the "I Have No Greeting" issue? Anyone?

Yeah, I tried that, and still no dice, at least with LAME active; I haven't tried it without. (I don't think it's specific to LAME, either ... it's possible that any magic overhaul might conflict, or that Bash is making one of its arbitrary choices.) However, I was able to progress in the mod by just bypassing those puzzles (I did complete them, I just couldn't get the pillar to activate after any of them). And I must say that once I got past that point, I was able to finish the mod--and will add my voice to the chorus ... this is one of the best story-driven mods I have played, for any game. On a final note, though, the quest would not update in my journal despite loading earlier saves from the Realm of the Dead, and it did not respond to any of the setstage commands given above.
Spoiler
At this point I think I will most likely disable the mod and clone Kat into a Companion Share sidekick, so she and my character can continue to roleplay their 'relationship'. I don't really need the armor, but sad that I'd have to lose the house--there are some really nice touches ... and a bunch of memories ... in there.

I hope that the relatively few issues that people have encountered can be solved... first, because the mod richly deserves it, and second, because I may be interested in playing it through again, just to see Dublin's take on the story. That's pretty high praise, considering that I would be breaking one of my own cardinal rules--that quest mods are specific to an individual character profile, never given to any others I might have. So I will say it again--Middark and the voice actors/actresses did a great job on this mod, and I have only the highest praise for it.

(P.S. @Middark--Make another one! For Oblivion. Pretty please?)

This is a bug that has plagued me for awhile, and that I can't get to replicate at all from my end. If the quest doesn't update you could try (from the bedroom) typing in "Set HOD04.LastStage to 10" and then talking to Kat again. That seems to fix it sometimes... (but not all :( )

Right now I am knee deep in Fallout 3, and I never seem to do anything small. BUT, I do have plans eventually to use the next Elder Scrolls to make a somewhat sequal... (you do owe the Collector a favor...)

Yeah, I want to gush some praise on this mod aswell! GUSH!

The only feedback I can give at the time is:
1. The problem with the script on the pillar not working in the second part; what I did the first time it didn't work and what I did the second time and it did work I will now explain if that will help pinpoint the problem as I can't see how a object can loose it's script (if that is what happens).
Spoiler
First time I went into the cave, killed some creatures, went to the White shield, turned it a few times. Then I went to the next pillar where the light shone and put the Golden shield there (I only got the option for the golden shield because I didn't bring the Jade). Turned it and went to the next pillar, nothing happened, no popup message or anything. Went to the stature and read the inscription, teleported away to get the Jade shield. Got back tried activating, nothing happened still. Switched shields and turned them and all stuff, the script on the last pillar never activated.
2. Replayed that part. Read the inscription on the statue first. Never touched the whiteshield put placed the two other shields first, the last pillar now working and I'm getting the choice of putting either shield on the first pillar. Turned the light and voil?!

The features of this mod and the milieu is just great, thank you!

Cheers!

Huh. You might have finally cracked this stupid bug. You not having the jade shield might be to the key... I'll look at it and see what I can find...

Hey, sorry haven't gotten back to you in awhile. And I hope this whole ability to spell things fixes this problem. This bug has haunted me for awhile and I'd love to get rid of it.

As for the "no greeting" issue, what exactly happened? I need the steps leading up to it once you got to the inn with Dublin.

I also have the "no greeting" issue at one spot with Dublin with this new voiced version. It is after the "love" movie and after I talked to Wintermoon. I tried to talk to Dublin and got "I HAVE NO GREETINGS". He is like this until my character reached the part before she needs to go on alone through the portal in the statues room. That's the only "no greeting" spot for me, and I am pretty sure I don't have this issue in previous unvoiced versions.

I am very excited to hear that you are making a Fallout 3 quest mod! I think others on the fallout 3 forum will be even more excited if they know who you are and how you are related to Fallout games!! :)

Update Version 6.2 is up on Nexus.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21176

Just some small fixes. Mainly the damn Shield Pedistal bug is finally fixed. (Thanks to Locksley for inadvertantly cracking it!)

I don't have time to put up another full version, so if you don't have HOD, download the 6.0 full version first, and then apply the 6.2 update.
