[RELZ] Heart of the Dead Quest Mod - Thread #4

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 4:30 am

Hey, not sure if you're still around Middark-but I'm having an issue with companion Kat. She got caught in an explosion (Midas Nuclear Blast) and seems to have somehow reverted back to a basic state, the items I gave her are gone, and now she just stands there. She will talk when I click on her, but she doesn't move to follow, and I can't attack her but can walk through her. It's almost like she's a ghost or something. The essential icon is there for her, but speaking to her is about all I can do. I wondered if there's a way to reset her so she's fine again, or get her back to how she was. Thanks!

Hello all,

Middark here. I'm thinking about doing another quest mod ( a sequel to my Heart of the Dead to be exact: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21176 ) and I was looking for some help.

I'm making a whole new world this time around and I need someone who can help create the world. Lay down towns, objects, etc.

If you'd like to be a partner in a major new quest mod, send me an email or post here. Thanks!

Quick question here, after the story once I get Kat as a full fledged companion, how do I set where "home" is? there's no option too that I've seen and when I tell her to go home she just vanishes until I summon her.

Woot! :celebration: When my mic is back in order, please count me in for voice acting if you're adding it. Working on HotD was one of the most fun projects I've been involved in.

Nice to see you around, and take care!

Wow, I just finished this, and just WOW. I've never played such a beautiful quest before. This is the first time EVER that I looked back after finishing a quest and felt like I accomplished something, instead of just looking at my loot. The NPC's were brilliantly crafted and each felt unique and perfect. The voice acting was superior to any other mod I have played, bar none. Dublin's voice actor should be hired by Bethesda for TESV, seriously. He managed to get across Dublin's personality perfectly without over killing it like many voice actors do by mistake.

There is absolutely nothing to complain about in this mod. If you ever made a sequel, I will be downloading it day-one.

I just discovered this mod, and I am very anxious to start playing it, but my install is big, so I am concerned about compatibility.

Is it compatible with FCOM, UL, and Better Cities?

And are there known some major incompatibilities between HOD and other big mods?

I'm having an issue with the strange liquid causing an instant CTD. The heal spell is added shows up in the corner of the screen and then boom....CTD. I've seen this issue mentioned on this thread but can't seem to find a solution. I have the latest update as well. Anyone found a way around this? Do I need the liquid to finish the quest? thanks for reading...

Actually you don't need the liquid, it's just to help you out with health. This is a conflict with one of the various health mods out there, but I don't know which one. The solution is to not use them... :)
-Middark

This CTD happens for me too, and I'm not using health mods. I can click on the fountains, and I hear some kind of breath sound played, but right after that, the game crashes.

Where is the altar of mara its one part im stuck on.

Spoiler
In Chorrol. If you're using Losing My Religion, you need to move that so it loads before Heart of the Dead.

Ugh. Not sure if it's broken now or not, but Kat has the no greeting problem.

Spoiler
Just got teleported back from Dragon Peak to The Collector and after finishing up with him there, she has no greeting. I suspect a necessary stage update didn't fire somewhere. I'll see if it sorts itself after I go back to Harren's cave since I blundered slightly there and didn't realize there was more of the cave to explore, so we never picked up the statue there.

I've got a problem. Once in a while, for no visible reason, Dublin turns naked at a next location I go to. By "stealing" into his inventory, I can see that his robe is still there but completely ruined. He's not my CM Partner, so I can't legitimately take his armor and mend it like I do with my usual companions. So what can I do? Reloading to an earlier save when he's yet clothed may (or may not) solve the problem for a couple of area transitions, but then he drops his armor again. I'm not usually alone in my room when playing, so just shrugging, pretending that nothing happens, and letting him deal with his own bare essential ass isn't quite an option. Ditching Dublin and going into HotD alone, as I understand, won't work. What else?

So this mod is awesome, but while playing it, I noticed that everytime I would activate the "Strange Liquid" when doing the quest to get the stone weapons, I got an epic CTD by whatever script was supposed to run. SO I decided to NEVER touch the healing strange liquid crap again. Fast forward now towards the end of the quests, and I've assembled the four miny statues and returned to Chorrol Chapel to go through the portal, and get the rest of the White Kings Armor, or whatever is supposed to be done. ANYWAYS, everytime I click the White King's Mosiac to get out of this dream realm where I had to walk across invisble platforms (visible only after wearing the helm and boots) I get an epic CTD. Assuming its the same script, wtf? I use OBMM, and it had detected no conflicts. I checked my load order, and everything seems fine...so....wtf? My character is effectively trapped in this dream-esque realm, and while I have several previous saves, I would like to complete this mod without having to completely disable it.

Well, I ended up glitching my way past the giant movable pillars, and am at the strange portal that will, from what I read, transport me to Red Mountain. Now my game crashes every timeI click the portal...*@#$*!!!!!!!

It's a common problem, I think it's related to the spell setting (I think they're abilities and should be spells) other than that I don't know anything

The healing liquid pools were the only thing I had CTD trouble with, so I just avoided touching them. Everything else worked other than Kat not having a greeting during part of the quest.

Mmm, well thanks for the information guys. I ended up shutting my game off a few times after multiple CTD's, and finally got it to load so I could finish the quest.

Awesome quest though, really just brilliant. svcks you can't get two companions instead of just one at the end, but hey it was a fun ride.

Ver 6.4 is up.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21176

This should fix the health CTD problem. (Hopefully). I also optimized the nifs in the bsa, although I haven't dealt with some the issues (Like unused files, etc) in the bsa as of yet. I'll be doing that some time in the near future.

Good thing you're still here middark, thanx for the update to this essential mod in my mod list :)

To bad I have to choose between Kat and Wintermoon , its a very hard choice. :(
I've played through this mod twice now and will do it again on a new savegame in the future ^^

It's been a hard few months, but I'm back for now. I'm cleaning up the bsa as we speak and will put a new version up in the near future.

I also have some ideas for an expansion for HOD as well. Not really a sequel, but more a small continuation. We'll see if time allows. :)

HOD Ver. 6.5 is up

This is probably be the last update for awhile. Have some deadlines at work and I'm starting in on Fallout: New Vegas.

This one is a pretty big update, though.

Ver 6.5
- The big one is that I finally took out unused meshes and textures out of BSA. This dropped is almost 180 megs. Oops. Ah well, live and learn.
- Thanks to Mental Elf and his TES4Files program.
- Adjusted Kat's romance threshold.
- Looked through esp and pulled out items with bad models.
- Fixed NO Greeting Bug with Kat and Dublin after dragon riddles.
- Merged with a fix by Arthmoor that fixed Inar with Better Cities.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21176

Oh, and the main site (www.heartofthedead.com) is down on purpose. Too much money to keep it, so you'll find the mod only on the Nexus now.

Would you consider adding Oblivion XP support to this? That would require OBSE, though. If your mod doesn't require OBSE, let me know and I'll see about creating a patch for it. I've taken over development of Oblivion XP and am overhauling the third party mod support... If your mod requires OBSE, then supporting Oblivion XP only requires a couple of lines in the result script of the quest completion stage.
