Yeah, I haven't chosen sides in the Civil War yet. I bought Haljarchen Hall already. Then I went to Highmoon Hall. As soon as I walk in, Valdimar tells me that he's my housecarl. I go through the conversation then exit. I walk up to Jarl Ravencrone and talk to her....... and get no option to buy land.

I really like my house in The Pale though.

edit: oh, i have to talk to he steward. where is he?

This happend to me as well. I found that I had to restart a prior save before the adoption and send her to the new house before adopting a child.

Now onto a new issue, I am having a problem with building Heljarchen Hall. The drafting table is showing the house has been built and wont show anything else. I have bought all three deeds and have built 2 out of the 3 houses. I just need this one to be built so that I can finish my trophies here. Looks like I am going to try and get all three built on a seperate character.

Slight problem with the land purchase requirements. The FAQs thread says that you must complete the Daedric Quest “Waking Nightmare” and then the favor “Kill the Giant”. Please note that this favor has the prerequisites of being level 22 or higher, and having had previously completed the “Waking Nightmare” Daedric Quest.

Dawnstar is the only place I'm currently able to buy land from and start building.. The problem is, I haven't touched any quests in the area. Including Waking Nightmare.

EDIT: My character is level 68, if anyone is wondering.

You already paid her to do it, trying to pay her twice is not going to get it done any faster. Lydia is so slow at furnishing, you might be better just to load a save before you asked her (the first time you asked her) and just doing it yourself. Do you really want to wait months for a doormat?

It took you all this time to work out ancient nord helms and stormcloak officers helmets do not display on mannequins? They never have, so nothing has changed. The Ebony Blade is longer than it seems, which makes it difficult to display, but you can wedge it into a display case on an angle going from corner to corner. It might still make the occasional attempt to escape.

You can put anything you want in the display cases, provided it fits and is actually moveable. You just drop it, leave the house ( get over the physics problem) and return to pick it up and put it in the display case. Doing it manually is not that hard. The auto add option is just a recent thing to make Skyrim easier, seems some thought it was just too hard manually putting thing in display cases in Oblivion.

Yeah, because you don't know ho you do it...right ????

So lets begin:
1) drop all of your items on the floor that you want to put in that case (or only one, it's up to you)
2) Exit your house.
3) Enter your house again.
4) Push and hold the "X" button on your controller for a second on the item you want to pick up and move it around.
Then you can actually put it in the display case.

HAVE FUN (google is your best friend you know...)

Ok, I got the place in Markarth. But like many others, Falkreath is a no go for me.

I'm getting a bit of annoying stuttering in areas like Falkreath Hold, although I'm not sure if that's more to do with the main game than Hearthfire. Apart from that I haven't run into any bugs yet, I've still got a lot of the DLC to do though.

The kids keep asking me if they can keep my dog. Problem is, I don't have a dog. A horse, yes. Dog? Nope.

I'm not entirely positive but I think the trigger for Falkreach... is Dragon Rising. I got the letter from the jarl immedately after finishing that quest having never been to Falkreach.(I then had to kill a random bandit leader). Now in the morning I'll loadup one of my old characters and see if he immedately gets the letter right after finishing dragon rising.

Had that happen consistantly when I tried this on my friends Xbox. Also the opposite problem everything shows up including items I already made.

Remember she'll only duel wield in combat(this applies to all followers) you can't just test it by drawing your own weapons.

There is a bug I recall reading about in the vanilah game where a dog follower isn't counted as dismissed.(preventing you from recruiting another pet).

*Here's how to avoid a couple of issues
Wrap around porch is blocked by a fence.
When trying to build a house with the wrap around porch.(bedroom, armory and storage wings). Built the storage wing last because that is the wing that actually adds the connections and removes the fences.

*Adoptive children won't move into new house.
The bedroom wing isn't required, the basic small beds will do. However if your housecarl and steward move in before your kids do they'll claim the small beds on the second floor. So either move the children in right away Or build the bedroom wing.

Waited a couple of days to check out bug reports before buying DB, no problems. Went ahead and bought HF straight away, big mistake. I built Winstad Manor, then decided to do some more stuff in DB, my whole game is now turning into a slideshow. Massive constant fps drop, missing textures, favourites quick menu keeps popping up when coming out of stealth. Wish I'd never bought it now.

I've encountered one very frustrating issue;
The drafting tables, oh ho ho, the drafting tables...

My house in Falkreath is complete, all three wings, everything decked out. For some reason, however, all the drafting table there seems to offer me is "Small house layout", I don't mind the workbenches in the house, but the true issue lies elsewhere.

My stately manor in Hjaalmarch, I've got the main hall built, but when I go to the drafting table to begin making a new wing.... I have the option of removing workbenches in the wings of my house in Falkreath. What? Oh, and I can remodel my house into an entryway. Also what?

Long story short, I've being fed ALL THE WRONG OPTIONS, and am unable to add onto my second home. Goodness, I sound so greedy, but I was hoping to have three houses with all nine wings spread between them. No matter how many times I fast travel, wait and retry, it keeps giving me the wrong options, every, single, time.

I don't suppose anyone else has had this? I've had no other major issues, so it's quite a disapointment to run into this one. Furthermore, I would be infinitely grateful if anyone knows how to help this, since I stupidly didn't make a backup save before building my houses (Risky, I know!), but after the flawless performance of Dragonborn, I guess I got a little cocky.

That happens to me a lot, thankfully I pegged on earlier and kept a few saves handy. It's an irritating bug, but once you've spotted it you can avoid it in the future. Live and learn eh?

I think you can have either the bard or the carriage, not both, just one.

I disagree, I've got the bard and the carriage at Lakeview manor. I'm going to assume that's a bug crawling about.

I'm not really sure what happened to cause this, but I ended up with the dreaded drafting table glitch at Windstad. I only managed to build one addition to that house before I built everything outside. Now I get no options to build new additions to Windstad. I get workbench removal or addition options at the drafting table for Lakeview additions. I will also occasionally only be able to craft a small house at the drafting table. Either way you slice it, this is a pretty frustrating glitch. I also get glitches at the carpenter's workbenches in the houses where they have options to build stuff that I've already built. Stewards also do not furnish homes when you request they do so.

I have been having persistent problems with my game freezing on the transition screen when I enter or leave rooms in my house in Falkreath
generally I can use transition doors about 5 times before the game starts to freeze up
my save file is around 6.5 MB

Hi. Character- L 71, Save 13,000. My ps3 hearthfire issues are-
items not staying in display cases; they are all about the room on return
items not staying on shelves
carpenter's bench shows i can build already built items
bugs in jars are scattered about the room upon return to greenhouse (one in a basket in the corner-???)
nothing harvestable regenerates in houses
general freezing, especially on loading screens
can only use butter churn once
fish and bees not regenerating
can't get sabre cat teeth to save my life
horse still doing the stand riding thing
followers leaving/no housecarl option
I JUST CAN'T TRUST THESE NEW HOUSES TO STORE MY STUFF
thanks guys.

when hand placing items in the display cases are you doing the drop and exit trick??

if you dont know what im talking about then next time you want to hand place an item, try dropping it on the ground, exit the house to your basemant( or outside but the basemant loads faster) then re-enter and place the item, this will solve 99.5% of items jumping around, certain items still have trouble with this, and your house will respawn its own items that came with the furnishing after 10 days away from your house, so this will dislodge anything you may have put in its place

the issues with carpenters benches and drafting tables seem to be cross-platform issues that affect everyone with HF, not sure of any known permanent fixes, but usually just exiting the bench and then reentering it will clear up the menus of already placed items

harvestable items never respawn in houses, this crosses all platforms

i havent found any sabrecat teeth either keep looking tho im sure they are out there

thats all i got, hope it helps
