Heavy Appreciation Thread

These are more isolated incidents, rather than the norm. Yes, it can happen, but you don't normally see Scouts racking up killstreaks left and right. The Heavy on the other hand, even if not racking up tons of kills, is at least keeping the enemy at bay. Also, in TF2 what makes the Heavy even more effective, is 90% of time, they have a Medic attached to them - It wouldn't surprise me to see the same sort of behavior in Brink - medics healing them, soldiers shielding them, etc.

I could imagine that a heavy soldier, medic, and engineer in a fortified position with super heavy weapons would be terrifying. I'm gonna give this situation a nickname. "The bullet blender." Walk into it and be torn apart. Has anyone seen the video where they plant that bomb on the reactor? Heavies would be superior in that situation. To storm the objective to take it back. Or to defend it. Most superior to defend it.

I think that people that are a little too serious about the lights are thinking that the heavies are gonna be like boomers in gears of war. They are gonna take cover until the weapon overheats or the reload happens. And they will have some advantage. Heavies can take cover too. Heavies can most like turn and acquire their targets as fast as the lights too. Add to that higher damage threshold and higher damage output AND higher ammo capacity. Have fun climbing up that ledge while I pierce your spine. Have some more bullets.

This may be true, but no decent light player is gonna take a heavy head on. Lights should use their increased movement capabilities to surprise heavies, and bring on a quick, clean kill.

and FYI I believe Heavies only have higher health, the damage is the same (i mean that as in if a heavy used an smg or light rifle) and I don't think they'd have more ammo since that would lead to balance issues.

But that is kinda the point. Just like how good Light players with try to flank and attack from alternate routes, Good Heavy players will block said routes, and try to force players into a bottleneck. They will also try to travel in groups, making it much harder for enemies to target them and take them out. Look at Reactor for instance - from what I've seen, there doesn't really appear to be a whole lot of different ways to get into the room to arm/defuse the charge at the end. put some Heavies there and add some turrets - good luck sneaking past. Of course, you could be disguised, but that goes into playing Operative, which any body type can do, not just Lights.

They have the most initial health and the biggest ability bars of all the body types. As far as firepower goes, they have access to every weapon, so regardless what category the "best" guns fall under, they can use them. They are also the only ones who can use heavy weapons, so although they may not be more powerful, they can use weapons with much larger clips, so they can fire constantly longer, without reloading - they are ideal for defending and leading a push against the enemy.

Yeah I knew all that, I thought the other dude meant if a heavy uses an AR for example, he has more ammo than a medium.

I think they start with more ammo, but I believe that getting supplied by a soldier already cancels out that advantage. They have more health and can chose more weapons, in addition they can also pick better secondaries. The damage they do should be equal though.

Because he can still use the SMART button to climb over that table.

He can still keep up with you guys because he doesn't die as much as you do.

When the lights are overhead taking potshots he's cutting you all in half with his minigun.

When you're out of buffs and begin to lose hope... IS THAT A HEAVY?! WITH A SYRINGE!?

When you're feeling outnumbered and terrified. He'll be next to you like a big brother to help you defend that objective.

He's there when you need a friend to lean on, encouragement, or a huge badass with a squad automatic weapon.

He may not be able to jump to that ledge but his chaotic frenzy of bullets can reach it just fine.

He's too busy using his huge amount of buffs so that his team will become unstoppable to worry about going up there anyway.

Thank you heavy. We love you.

after reading this i think a heavy medic build will be sick, but at the same time you need the speed and agility to get to those revives quick, if im running heavy its gonna be a engineer, by buffing your teams weapons (i hope you can self buff your own to) and be able to put up turrets and fix objective and doing all this carrying a really big gun would be awesome

Since revives are ranged in Brink, speed isn't as crucial for being able to revive effectively. And yes, you can buff yourself, it just costs more points to do. For medics, healing yourself requires a cooldown afterward, but you you can still heal others in the meantime. This helps to prevent the effectiveness of "rambo medic" players.

lol, the heavy fans crack me up.... they all think they are untouchable, because they have bigger weapons. They also all think they have this super-mega-ultra health bar, and that no one will be able to kill them.

Don't be jealous...

No I mean heavies can carry the LMG and the minigun. Mediums can't carry those. The heavier weapons do higher damage then the other weapons basically with the speed of the SMGs and the like, ADD in the RANGE of the assault rifles (maybe not as much accuracy), with a huge clip size. The sacrifice is a slow reload time. And I think it would be fair to slow down the already slow heavy a bit more when carrying heavier gear. But not uber slow. (like in halo 3 when you carry a turret around)

Shadowcat said it best when he described the minigun as a large caliber SMG. LMG probably has more recoil though. It'll all be balanced. But man I appreciate the heavy.

I've found it to be quite the opposite. The Light [censored] tend to be the ones posting fantasies about how they are going to jump from rooftop rooftop, like Batman, striking silently and without warning, and escaping unscathed. The Heavy fans tend to keep to themselves, really only commenting when confronted or when appropriate, like in Light vs heavy threads, and even then, the majority of what they post doesn't read like a Kill Bill script, with them winning against crazy 1 vs 100 odds.

All in all, I would say that the people on here who are Heavy fans, are more levelheaded in their thoughts, whereas the Light fans (most, not all) seem to have delusions of grandeur. It also doesn't help that they overpopulate Heavies, by around 4 to 1, in terms of popularity and based on polls.

+1 and give the mediums their credit too.

Anyone remember that old nintendo game where you played hockey and there was a heavy, medium and light player? Everyone had their role. The heavy was the enforcer and could steal the puck so easy. The medium was nice and reliable and the light was good at getting to the other end. Unless he ran into a heavy. Then he had to pick up his teeth and hope the heavy on his team intercepted and passed the puck back to him again and he played his cards better.

The game would have been boring with all light players. Or just mediums. And just heavies would make the game slow. But if you guys playing your lights think you're gonna be ninjas. You're gonna get mowed down plenty of times. And we'll pass the puck to the light on OUR team that knows how to use his build with some humility and level headedness.

I agree, Cappy, the trend I'm starting to notice between the two bodytypes is that the light players tend to visualize themselves more as loners, trying to ambush and just be a ninja in general, with the exception of light medics that just want to get to people faster. Heavy players on the other hand seem to be more focused on team tactics, pushing with the other heavies on your team, covering the rear, or protecting your teammates.

This is a bit ironic to me though, because I'm guessing that lights will require the most teamwork in general, and if any bodytype can take on more than one enemy solo, its the heavy.

In theory, this would seem accurate, but in practice, it is not. Take TF2 for example - Scouts tend to do their own thing, using their speed to their advantage. heavies tend to travel with others, relying on teammates to make up for their slow movement. I have found that a Heavy tat travels by himself, is usually a dead Heavy.

The heavy would have the ability to solo. And also be lethal in groups. Mediums would make really mobile balanced squads. But I'd have to say with the light they'd be able to be more mobile solo wise and take routes that allow them to avoid direct fire. But they won't be able to just ambush nonstop. Especially if they set their sights on someone who has the awareness perk. (Lets you know if someone is targeting you. Like spidey sense) Lights are going to have a lot of situations where they think they have the upper hand and take a grenade to the teeth. But they'll wise up and play more realistically.

You have a point, I guess it would all depend on how much faster the lights are, and how much slower the heavies are.

While I agree with how annoying the little Naruto's are, Heavy extremists aren't much better either. Especially on youtube. Most of the commenters that are pro heavy think that just because they have more health and have access to all weapons their invincible, when in reality, anyone who moderately knows what their doing can kill one. So yes, both sides of the spectrum are obnoxious.

I think my spectrum of 16 characters will be balanced between heavy/medium/light and specialize one in each class in complimenting body types. Because I want to be good at what I do. But if I don't play as all body types I will not understand all the dynamics of the game and will therefore be ignorant. But the heavy and his huge weapons hold a special place in my heart. And people pick on the heavy the most because too many people are rogues and don't seem to understand to concept of TEAMPLAY. So the HEAVY is the underdog in popularity. And I like the unpopular underdog. Especially when he carries a massive weapon.

Medium players aren't as intense about their choice, since they aren't on either extreme. I expect they will be the most common in-game because they aren't slow, but they don't die from a wayward shot.

You are so smart. You get a cookie. Seriously. In order of population you'll have mediums, lights, then heavies. But that might shift around some depending on the maps once people learn them.

That is the point of light only access areas (meaning high roads that only lights can take). Still anyone can get to the objectives so its the heavies advantage when on the defensive.

Indeed but this isn't really a civil debate. Its a group of heavies (with certain exceptions) discussing how stupid all these ninja light wannabes are as compared to the stoic unstoppable heavy.

I think it's safe to say that most of us know what my preferred playstyle is. Still I hate getting lumped in with the all lights are idiots crowd,

This topic (ask anyone who has been around awhile) has been going on for months and hasn't accomplished anything. By all means keep talking, its just tiring (at least to me to hear the exact same stuff over and over again).

The fact of the matter is until we know any kind of exacting stats for bodytypes can keep telling ourselves that we are right.

Its like a debate between Heavies and Lights is comparable to one between Republicans and Democrats, its going no where and the poor independents (mediums) aren't even invited.

Well personally I'm just as excited about playing the light as I am the heavy. I want to play them all. I just saw a lot of heavy hating going on and didn't like it. Like basically that "Which "class" is the most useless?" Thread was aimed at the heavy. Honestly someone needs to start a TEAM PLAY appreciation thread. Because some people who think that just doing your own thing for yourself are in for a rude awakening. I don't hate on everyone that wants to be a light. I'm just not a big fan of the people that think other people are idiots if they want to be the heavy.

You know what really svcks? Those of you that I've really taken a shine to on this forum. You're all PC users... it makes me think I should ditch my xbox or something. Because I want to play with a community of cool people.

Seriously take no offense. I think the heavy and the light should be like peanut butter and jelly. Not like a snake and mongoose. The heavy is gonna need that light to get to that objective quick as hell. But that light is gonna need that heavy to watch his ass when all hell breaks loose.
