Heavy Armor vs Light Armor

I honestly couldn't find a difference between the two in Oblivion. Obviously HA has more protection stat-wise, but i never had a problem with LA with my warrior.

As far as looks go, I never cared. But for stats, I did Light, the first time. Second time, I stopped even using armor, and just enchanted my rings and stuff.

In Oblivion, heavy armor also affected your stealth at lower skill levels, making it harder to be stealthy. It weighed about twice as much, which was really big on characters with low carrying weights, and it was also supposed to "encumber" you (reducing your speed), although I never noticed that bit. In Skyrim, since movement speed seems to be equalized between all the races, I think it will have much more of an impact since they've gone ahead and stated that the different armor classes will reduce your movement speed.

To be honest i never seen the difference ether i always went for the look of the Armour, i also liked the the beefy big look of Heavy Armour i didn't like the flimsy light Armour :S

I go with Heavy Armor. Light armor is usually just heavy clothing. I especially hate chainmail; it's almost as heavy as steel armor, and only protects from slashes. Blunt force and punctures go straight through. Just doesn't make sense to me.

LA should allow for more dodging and mobility in combat, but come at the cost of protection. It should also make less noise during movement, but probably also requires more upkeep and repairs to keep it at top notch while HA can take more of a beating before needing a fix.

Never used Heavy armor in Oblivion - too much weight, too clunky looks & noise-wise, and I didn't like that it made me slower (disclaimer - I only remember trying Heavy vs Light when I was at low level, so my Speed and Athletics were very low. Under those conditions, it really seemed like it slowed me down. No idea how it would be with high Speed & Athletics.)

It'd be cool if the had Viking style chainmail in Skyrim, chainmail draqe over a thick, layered (sometimes studded) leather hauberk with some bits of metal plate here and there. (I'd link but I'm on a smartphone)
But either way I love leather, especially for larping. Its light, looks cool, and its tougher than a lot of people would think. Oh yeah light armour :disguise:

I was under the impression that different races still have different speeds. It would svck if Nords were as fast as Khajiits.

None, sneak is my armour.

How I would do armour:

Light: Does not hamper stealth or speed very much or at all. minimum to decent protection. Stanima useage is low. Needs a -nearconstant managment if it to much. distance of jump and other maneuvers not as hampered. Drawing swords or swinging them is not usually hampered.

Heavy: Hampers stealth and speed easily. Is very durable and of course takes quite a few hits. Protects the most of course. Cannot swim with heavy amrour on. stanima useage medium to high. Magicka useage may also be hampered.

Jumping and other locomotive or dextereous movements are hampered.

Some special heavy and light armours may have exceptions of course,

then you missed out, the LA had very few choices most LA players just stuck with the DB armor. HA actually gets almost as light as LA when you level it up because it encumbers you 50% less. that being said I am being biased because I know LA gave you a boost in protection to be about the same as HA when you levled it up. And I think HA looks way better i play the whole game in the Blackwood armor!

I'm all for them adding more differences. I usually choose light armor because I roll as a Thief/Rogue, and I need to be able to move fast and stay quiet.

you could do that with heavy armor too, if your HA skill was high enough . . . which is pretty stupid if you ask me

I meant that those things you mentioned already existed in OB

Nearly always use LA and only 1 character joined the DB. Not sure how you can claim to know what most LA users wore.

Shield enchantments made both irrelevant so hopefully they'll do something more than just soak up damage.

Light Armor <3

1) It's lighter then Heavy Armor, because of that you are able to carry aloot more stuff...
2) Helps with sneaking =)
3) Allows you to move faster :D
4) At higher levels the defence difference between Light and Heavy armor arnt too far from each other.... So i would rather choose Light armor because of the above statements...

Heavy Armor

1) It's heavier.... You can barely carry stuff =/
2) Does not help with sneaking
3) You run slower
4) Has a higher defence rating, yet because of the above cons it kinda puts me off of it... But if they add perks which allows the armor to weigh less, allows you to move faster ect then i would probably pick it =)

Light Armor is my choice. I'm a true pack rat Alchemist, so I need my backpack / weight limit for hundreds of ingredients, enchanted stuff found in dungeons, and anything of value that's not nailed down when looting castles and mansions. But when you break it down, at least in Oblivion, having max skill in either makes it roughly equal to the other... Still, I'm more the type to prefer stealth outside of combat, and evading in combat. Any damage taken is money out of my pocket- repairs are expensive, if I'm out of hammers.

Not look-wise, but protection wise. I found both to feel the same.

HEY HEY dont forget that light and heavy armors affect you ability to cast magics.
in oblivion a novice HA usualy losses 20% magic affectivness. with LA its aroud 10% for novices.
in oblivion i allwaysed used LA, as my Kajiit had a small health bar, but was awsome with blades and high magics.
