Heavy armor useless?

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 10:27 pm

So i wanted to make a character using heavy armor with 1hand + shield, but i just found out that the armor cap is 567, wouldnt that mean that heavy armor is a complete waste? Shield aswell. Im really disappointed with this,

Not even close to the cap, there are people claiming 3000+ armor or some cray crap like that.

You can raise it about 567 but I don't think it has any extra effects beyond that amount

Not really. Light armor/clothes have worse defense. Heavy armor + blocking with shield is probably the most tanky option and you can further up your defense by using magic/potion/scrolls. I don't see a problem with heavy armor.

EDIT:

not sure about the 567 hard cap, never got that far with heavy armor. I use clothes...

With all perks in either armor type it basically comes down to:

Heavy:
50% less stagger
10% chance to reflect damage
No sneaky.

Light:
50% stamina regen
10% chance to avoid damage
Yes, sneaky.

For those not focusing on smithing / abusing the crafting synergy, 567 isn't going to be easy to hit, even impossible for light armours.

Edit: Forgot you can use a stone to make it easy but then you give up the benefit from one of the others.

When all the ladies fall to their knees when I enter a room, I can hardly call my sixy armor useless.

Or maybe that's my soul trap dagger killing them all just by looking at them.

Or maybe it's Lydia.

Or the spikes on my armor.

Or my axe.

Regardless, Heavy Armor is sixy.

In all honestly, I would like to see an argument for Heavy armor over light for even warrior types besides it lookin' all sixy.

Heavy gives better protection until lategame when you can hit the cap, but by that time the game gets boring anyway. Most people in light won't even hit 300, I have around that at level 42 with 100 smithing, although I'm not in full glass and I didn't abuse enchanting/alchemy.

It just means you can distribute more perks, without worrying about the synergy of crafting.

The cap is 80% though, I believe, which is around 567. But the numbers will still go up oddly.

I don't think some people realize what is meant here. You can go above 567 displayed armor rating, but at that point the number is the only thing going up. 567 is the effective cap, any higher is conveying 0 benefit.

the 50 percent less stagger is very nice with heavy armor. and shield bashing is a very powerful skill.

I can only guess the amount of people wasting time on trying to get some absurd rating when it doesn't help.

No need to remake, you won't die anyway :spotted owl: and as many have said, heavy armor appears to be more sixy than light armor.

Do you want to stagger less or regenerate stamina faster?

I think the point is, why if you're a warrior type would you choose light armor over heavy? The heavy armor still protects better even with a cap.

Is this a glitch then?

They should put different caps on different types of armor, like: Light armor cap 400, Heavy armor cap 650, that way it wouldnt be a complete waste to get heavy armor
