Heavy Lifting

I pretty much only love playing Mages. If the game is a MMORGP I'm playing, then I pretty much only player Healers so I can save my friends. I love that part the most. But in a game like this, Destruction magic is the way to go in my book. So I never play Warriors. Warriors are pretty much what you see in the real world 700 years ago and I get enough of those in movies. But I can't help feel the reason I don't play Warriors is that no one ever makes a game dynamic for them that has enough meat to it to entice me.

So I was thinking almost by accident about Warriors and came up with the idea of pretty much "What if Warriors could lift or move heavy stones, logs, or fallen trees?" Why? What for?

The thief has "Lock Pick" to pick certain doors in the game. The mage can get spells that do this. But warriors have nothing. So what if some of the dungeons or crypts had a huge stone sitting on them (if the trap door is in the ground) or rolled up against them (if a door) ... and only a strong Warrior can move them? These dungeons are for the higher levels in the game, so you'd need a super huuuuuge strength to be able open some of them. In this situation, no theives could enter these dungeons, and no mages could either unless there was a Dragon shout with the power to move such stones.

There is some mechanic for trying to push things in the game like holding SHIFT while pressing the "Activate" button to push. And if you aren't strong enough, your character will grunt and step back and wipe his brow and act tuckered out and if you try to do it again but simply aren't strong enough, THEN it will tell you "This is too heavy for you, you need some more exercise first."

Then, if you play a wimpy thief or a measly wuss of a mage, the only way you'd ever get into that dungeon is to go find a strong beefy Warrior and befriend him with many gifts until he wanted to go Questing with you, and then you'd bring him here to open the door for you. Just like in real life.

Eh, I don't think it'd be that great for solo play. I mean, I usually play warrior or skirmisher types, but assuming I was playing a less burly character, this'd just annoy me. I usually hate having NPC companions with me - I've yet to see a game where they don't get stuck somewhere or get in my way. Each to their own though.

I think the OP has a good point, warriors were always lacking " it" if i could just grab a bandit or w/e, and throw him away, even that would make me feel more warriorliky if you know what I mean, but I also think this is just wishfull thinking, and that with finisng moves, my problems with warriors are pretty mch over :) ( I would still like the option verrrry mutch though)

Well, you don't have to hire him to go into the dungeon with you. You hire him to lift the heavy stone for you. Once he does, you pay him, and he heads back to town if that's what you want. I didn't say you hired him to be your permanent companion, although the option should be there if someone needed that. But ... since you don't, pay the man his due and send him packing!

Each to his own, hahaha.

Same for me. Unless you would have a way for mages (telekinisis?) and stealth based characters (alchemy "strength" potions?), making some content exclusive to warriors or forcing you to hire specific companions is not an idea I am too fond of.

Just small miscellaneous tasks. If you're like 70 in strength, people might ask you to help them move stuff occassionally. Falling pillars and all that seems a bit much to me.

just to be able to crush the locks on doors, or kick a door open, being a warrior you should be a bit more rough. imo.

Yes, I think it's a bit limiting that only lockpickers (and alteration experts) have an edge in prying things open.
Strength should also be a factor to enable to you bash things open or move heavier rocks in "grab" mode.

It would/could make handcrafted quests and places more interesting to revisit.

Having a loose boulder that requires a gazillion strength to move could also be a nice minor quest.

This wouldn't make much sense in the game. First off even if you have some bodybuilder of a Bosmer character, the average Nord will likely be just as strong if not stronger due to their stature. Secondly what about the female characters? Makes no sense for say a female (or indeed, male) [insert the skinniest race] playing as a warrior to be able to attain some 'uber muscle' perk unless it actually changed the physical appearance of the character. Can't see many people wanting to play as a body builder of a female. :S

I'd be more inclined to have more finishing moves and parrying (rather than simply blocking) for warriors, dodge rolls for rogues and something for the mages.

Edit: Now that said, it would be nice for some NPCs to have alot of extra strength so you might need to recruit one as a companion to do certain things. So yes to everyone as far as NPCs go, voted no for the player character however.
