Heavy support build help

Post » Wed Jan 23, 2013 2:18 am

I'm Going to make a heavy support character and wanted to get some opinions/tips on what weapons and armor I should use.

1. What primary weapon?
Light machine gun+(extended mag) or minigun(GRA)+++ or other?

2.secondary
Dinnerbell or riot shotgun or other?

3. Armor?
I'm thinking some kind of power armor any recommendations?

anything else I should use/try? (I'm not going to use hardcoe mode because I plan on using heavy armor with thousand+ rounds of ammo for my guns)

i use the light machine with extended mag. problem is getting enough armor piecing bullets for it. the assult carbine ammo is armor piercfing but has a small clip compared to the minigun. The CZ57 Avenger is a good room sweeping. but, on my system, using the pip boy to change ammo type is busted. if you have this gun ready with the ammo you want then there isn't a problem.

i think riot shotgun because it has a larger clip. have both shotgun surgen and stay back perks.

armor, it seems starts beinng realy effective at DT of 30. it is possible to have that with light armor. with the light touch perk, you get both offensive and defense bonus. with the grunt perk, the light machine gun does more damage. when i leave borken hearts i use the .45 smg. it has a good size clip. to kill those with lesser armor. for those with more armor, the LM with armor piecing bullets or The CZ57 Avenger.

hope this helps.

I was thinking using heavy armor because of the DT and the futuristic "tank" look

Other than that thanks for the input.

Oh and the main purpose of this build is for the "invincible kill everything feeling by being a walking tank"

Also can anyone do a comparison on the. Avenger compared to a minigun+++?

What are your special stats and what traits are you using?
Always wanted to use a somewhat support class but my builds always end up looking like the Fallout 2 builds that everybody used to get a really OP character

I think I'm going to use t-51 power armor with the minigun+++ with a riot shotgun. and maybe a grenade machine gun.

Hm, my build is exactly like yours but I put the 3 points you have in Luck into Intelligence.
Why trigger discipline? Isn't fast shot better if you are playing a tanky support role? You can steamroll them with your power armor while having a really fast shooting shotgun or LMG or Minigun.
Just my input

they shoot fast enough for me I just want a minigunsniper even though the extra intelligence would be nice And I don't need the critical chance from luck with the hundreds of rounds I'm shooting so thanks for the input. Plus ammo(very large quantities of it) would go faster with fast shot. Also I'm starting it as I type this so first stop is hidden valley.

True, they shoot really fast.
I just like to feel very tanky while having an ultra fast shooting Minigun.

If you install the original Fallout guns mod, you will be able to get a SMG fire rate +30% mod.
I know this isn't the mod section but damn ... just tried that one out and my mag is empty so fast if I have Fast Shot as a trait.
Needless to say that my enemies die fast too

dang I'm in the 360. But fast shot plus a grenade machine gun sounds sweet. And the extra fire rate would be awesome.

If You are still primarily going to be running a Minigun, remember to sleep to allow Vendors to restock. Bulk 5MM Ammunition should be stockpiled for the point when your character is ready to go and get that suit of T-51 power Armor, or Enclave Remnant Armor. I just had a character get both on Default difficulty before hitting Level Ten, and collect the CZ-57 along the way using Sneak and Snipe with a scoped Hunting Rifle. I knew which Vendors are more likely to stock Bulk 5MM Ammo, and built a stockpile of over 2000 Bulk rounds for entering where the Armor can be aquired from. The amount of Ammunition would have been inadequate if my character had to rely on just a Minigun.
The character I used does not meet the Minimum Strength or Skill to use any Heavy Weapons effectively, but a Minigun is a Minigun :gun:

Your plan is great!
I often do the same in the beginning, but later on, when I have enough normal or special 5mm rounds, I just go on a rampage.
Most of my characters are specialized on something special, like Sniping or Laser Weapons or in this case, Support weapons e.g. Mini Guns.
When I make a character like my current one, I always go for hight Strength and Endurance.
It's awesome to even be able to punch someones head in with a baseball bat in the beginning, or later on, just use the Chainsaw if I don't want to "waste" my precious ammo on little creatures.
Spoiler
never use Built do destroy with this build, it's only good on builds that use high luck
