Gotlung is awesome but if its equipped it should be spooling and rdy to go. If you want something similar but without the spooling and with slightly better accuracy you have the chinzor. And if you want more accuracy for distance but less spray-n-prayability you have the maximus. The heavy can be very useful if you have a good team-oriented team otherwise not so much.

I am really torn about the heavies usefulness atm which is very unfortunate especially since the other body types seem to have their roles balanced pretty well. Here is where the heavy flaws out due its pros. I have 3 main characters right now which are 1. A medium engy / soldier 2. a heavy medic / soldier and 3. a Light operative / medic. What I write below comes from experience leveling all of them to lvl 20.

1. The heavy is a bigger target and is pretty much stationary when firing his heavy weps (especially the gotlung) which makes him a massive target / bullet sponge.
2. The heavy has pretty much zero maneuverability meaning that if you try to sprint around a corner to reload or slide behind cover to avoid bullets you will only live 10% or so of the times you attempt it.
3. The heavy weps given aren't powerful enough to make them better in close range then most of the SMGs. What I mean by this is that even as a fully buffed heavy with a spooled up ready to fire gotlung, you still will get mowed down by a medium or light running circles around your immobile @rse more times then you will mow them down. I cant tell you how many times I have ALMOST killed a medium or light but they barely lived because I have to stand in one place spraying while they run, slide, and wall hop around me while I try to shoot them.

This game is built upon run and gunning hence Brinks term "never stop moving" but the heavy basically goes against that. My heavy medic / soldier really shines when I dont equip heavy weps (AKA an AR and a SMG) or when I make him a medium. But I dont want a heavy with an AR i want a heavy with a heavy wep.

At this point when most people see a heavy they think "oh hey theres a fatty that cant run away Im gonna rush up to him and pump him full of SMG rounds before he can spool up his pee shooter" instead of what they should be saying when they see a heavy "Oh cr@p theres a heavy I better wait for backup or take another route."

As far as im concerned the heavy either needs more health or his weps need a buff in the damage department even if only a slight one. Personally Id rather have the weps do more dmg then the heavy get more health though.

What you say at the end sums up my problem as well, the opposing players should see my heavy and think twice about taking me on not run around me like im a fool.

I don't really use the Heavy ATM. I have one character. Engineer/Medium, but was thinking of starting a Heavy Character once I hit lvl. 20 with my Engineer.
My issue so far is that I'm not afraid of heavies. Their slow movement and inaccuracy at long range (with heavy weapons) doesn't make me feel that I have much to fear.

If anyone has played Gears of War, or Spec Ops mode in Modern Warfare 2....you always get that "oh s#it!" feeling whenever you run into a juggernaut (MW2) or a Boomer (Gears).
I just don't get that same feeling when I run into a heavy...and that's the feeling that I really wanted to have with the Heavies. They should strike fear, and be tougher to bring down to offset their lack of mobility and range with heavy weapons.

To me, heavy weapons (Not the actual 'bullet sponge') are great for pinning down enemies .___.
Haven't tried it in complete human matches (Only half and half) but it does the job :\

As a light body type, I feel I need a baseball bat in this game to deal with some of these heavies.

"EAT IT FATTY!" *Beat-down with bat*

(Team Fortress 2 joke~)

I'm usually a heavy medic. With Maximus/Euston. The slow speed is kind of a pain at times but it's not horrible. I do think heavies should get a little more health to compensate for the loss of speed, mobility, and being a larger target. I also believe the heavy weapons in general need some form as buff as after extensive playing I know I can kill people faster even at point blank ranges with most SMGs and ARs. Their main usefulness seems to be simply a large magazine. One of the other reasons I like being a heavy is indeed the large body because I can physically shield a teammate working on an objective. Timing a self heal while being a bullet shield works quite well in those situations.

Some of the following adjustments might work..

Slightly increase their health
Make their melee do more damage
Slightly reduce spread (increase stability?) due the the extra weight/strength holding the gun steady
Reduce knock back/down distance traveled (probably more of a penalty but more realistic)
Less chance of getting knocked down in general, especially due to melee strikes from medium or especially lights
