The first Tron was terrible. The second Tron was terrible.

The first Blade Runner was nothin' special. The Second Blade Runner will be nothin' special.

:tops:

BLASPHEMY!!! Take that back right now. Tron and Tron Legacy were awesome! As was Bladerunner.

Although I'm sure a Bladerunner 2 will almost definitely svck.

Good!

I'm probably going to get flamed to death for this, but... Tron: Legacy was a huge improvement over the original Tron!

Tron was probably a decent film back in '82 but times change and movies do not grow better with age.

I didn't like the original Blade Runner. But I will say with the technological improvements of today, I think Hollywood can actually do a better job of it and flesh it out to its true potential. Think of it this way, if it takes off the rest of Hollywood will jump on the bandwagon and you will all get your cyber punk fix or whatever you call it

Unnecessary sequels and remakes have always been there, we're only old enough now to see them for what they are. That said, if they can keep it on the same level as the original, it's fine. If they don't, we can just as easily look at that one existing movie and none else, like this one Matrix, and those three Star Wars films, and so on.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! No no no! No! No! NO!

Fallout. X-COM. Deus Ex.

Oh wait, we're talking about movies.

People will watch the Balderunner sequel; they're either die-hard Bladerunner fans who "must" see it, or people who will go because they've heard good things, but never bother to watch the original one (don't watch "old" movies). The former will [censored] and moan about how it [censored] the franchise and how the movies is awful (it probably will be worse than the original, but not as bad as they make it out to be). The latter will treat it like a normal movie, but some will become fans and love it for its "amazing plot" and "awesome action scenes. They will go back and watch the original, be disappointed by it saying "the visuals are outdated", "the plot is boring-- not intelligent, just boring", and "the entire movie is tedious, and the action scenes are terrible". The two factions will be angry and start many a fight on message boards like IMDB's.

Basically, same [censored]. It will make money, so they will make it. Don't like that it's being made? Don't watch it.

I [censored] you not, but I've watched Blade Runner about 40 times. Seriously. Easily my favourite movie of all time.

..however, I don't think a sequel or a prequel would be such a hot idea. Some movies don't need them.

I would say to the people who don't like it to watch the Final Cut. It looks better, sounds better, the voice over has been cut out and the ending is better. I'm feeling too tired to give a lengthy exposition on the film's awesomeness but I would point to Ragholio's comment about it being a benchmark in cinematography. It's a cross between noir and cyberpunk. If you like good cinema, you should like Blade Runner.

I saw it on Blu Ray so you can't rally get much better than that at the moment and I still didn't find it interesting. And I do like good cinema.

I'm probably among the minority when I say that I didn't think the prequels detracted from the Original Trilogy in any way

Well...younger generations (like me :D) usually prefer the Original Triology cause it's mroe modern, has better effects etc...so I wouldn't say that a majority prefers the original but then we have Star Wars purists and they'll always prefer the original. Me, I like all 6 movies and is my favourite saga :starwars:

Blade Runner was awesome, it doesn't need a sequel.
As avant garde for it's time as BR was, Brazil is far better.

As far as SW goes, ESB and ROTS are my personal favorites.

It just seems that modern media are returning to whatever classics that made money and remaking them in a destructively incompatible way for a new audience. Where the new viewers don't get the intended experience, and the past viewers don't get the improved medium technology available to modern film making.

First off, Tron: Legacy was a sequel, not a remake. Those are two VERY different things. Secondly, the new views DO get the intended experience, as again, these are modern sequels and as such are made to modern standards. Story and all.

Blade Runner already recieved a sequel in the form of print in 1995:

Blade Runner 2: The Edge of Human by K.W. Jeter - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blade_Runner_2:_The_Edge_of_Human

I read it about 10 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Though I have the feeling that It would mostly appeal to hardcoe fans such as myself.

Modern standards are lower. Movie makers now have access to unlimited special effects, but its been learned that you only need to go so far to get profit, and if you stray from the middle ground, you loose the fringe on a sliding scale. Tron:legacy was 127 minutes of brutal predictability and very hard to accept events in their 'real world' outside of their digital world. Jeff Bridges did a good job IMO, but on the whole it was a real let down. ~Plus the movie rips off Matrix and Virtuosity.

You'd think they would have played to the computerized nature of the IP. The Bar could have been the "L2 Cache", and heck... the movies namesake was a faceless Vader that had little to do with the plot except to turn on his master; So it ripped off Empire Strikes Back too.

So is Logan's Run. I love that dystopian movie.

I also preferred the original Clash of the Titans better than the remake. Maybe it's because I am old. To me, the models of Star Wars are more realistic looking than CGI.

They see an opportunity to slack off on creating an original story, then remaking one that might appeal to younger generations.

They referenced computers enough I think. And the club being called "End of Line" was a great throwback to the original.

The original movie rips off the Wizard of Oz by the way.

Speaking of Blade Runner, I would really like to see Ridley Scott do the remake of Fritz Lang's Metropolis, as opposed to the rumored Peter Jackson.

How about Wizard of OZ?

Tron - 1982

The Matrix - 1999

I agree Miles, Ridley Scott would be perfect for that job. I love that movie a lot, but let's hope whoever remakes it will do a little better on the second act. I don't want to fall asleep again.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0816462/. Conan The Barbarian is one of my all time favorite movies, so I'm skeptical. At the same time, I'm looking forward to this. If it winds up with a serious tone like the first Arnold movie had it could be really good. If it winds up campy like Kull The Conqueror it could svck.

There's a certain special magic the first one had, I think due to James Earl Jones, serious undertones, and a lack of special effects. That last one is important because too much CGI can ruin an otherwise good movie.

EDIT: Crap I forgot the most important part of the original movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bh63oQKdus! (this one is my favorite) Above J.E.J, Arnold, the seriousness of the movie, the early 80s special effects rose one of the best soundtracks ever.

The music told the story instead of dialogue. That is brilliant.

Next thing you know you will be saying that about Red Dawn and Footloose.

Aren't they making a Red Dawn Remake?

And a New Conan Movie too? I loved Conan the Destroyer, despite how cheesy it was, and I sill need to see Conan the Barbarian. Hopefully, though, the new movie will be good.

Blade Runner was an awesome movie. Did any of you even see the directors cut?

I have the FInal Cut on DVD, I love the Tears in Rain part. I also loved the movie and it helps that I'm a Vangelis fan.

He could play a tired old worn out Deckard whoes still on the run from other Bladerunners and/or police out to get him, and Rachel's fate is unknown.
