Height, Weight, and Build DIfferences

Post » Sun Apr 25, 2010 1:40 pm

Do you think a size system will be implemented in Skyrim? For example, Have Imperials range from 5'6-6'3, Nords 5'9-6'7, Orcs 5-10'-6'8, High Elves 5'11-6'8 etc... and shorter proportionally for women.

This would give some awesome variety to the NPC's and maybe a user adjustable height/size system?

Anyone else agree?

I agree for sure. This would be a great thing to see. I think the ranges you listed were to wide but other than that its great.

I think a height differentiation system would be pretty cool. Obviously everyone won't be the same height; it would definitely create more variety.

Yeah maybe have an average of say 6'1 for nords and go +/- 5 each way? Same idea, but I think its just boring to have everyone the same size

I think it would be cool to come across a HUGE Orc like 6'8 with a massive build in the game who's attitude matches his dominating presence

I always thought it weird that everyone in the TES games (at least Morrowind and OB) have the exact same height as their racial brethren. Also why are there no fat people and why are bums so buff and well toned. Must be doing push-ups and sit-ups while waiting for the next passer by to ask for gold.

No Dwarves, only Dwemer and they weren't short and didn't run around with axes and horn hats, although they did have beards.

Varying height would be pretty good to help get rid of that feeling that everyone is the same person with different clothes. Not sure how it would affect the look of clothing and your (in)ability to get through tight quarters. I had enough trouble as an Orc in Morrowind trying to get through Telvanni towers.

There was height variation in Oblivion... except I believe it was only male wood elves being short.

I'm all for this idea....we should be able to choose the size of our character,no matter what race, within reason of course....infact the way you put above is perfect...have a range between each race...same with weight too.
I've not been on the forums for a while...but why not have a choice to have a mixed race too...half & half...i know its probably been said before...but been away a while.

Altmer are naturally taller then than the other races, so they would have to be able to slide up to 7'2. Now how would a 5'1 Bosmer feel about those freaks walking around. I'm all for variety, but I'm not sure about this.

It would be easy to at least include a general size slider. Characters would still share the same perportions, but at least be able to be larger or smaller, while avoiding any clipping issues that might arise from trying to animate all the possible variations people would come up with if using a more complex system.

…But if they got that all figured out, cool. The more options the merrier.

I think the core of the explanation is in http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Notes_on_Racial_Phylogeny:

"After much anolysis of living specimens, the Council long ago determined that all "races" of elves and humans may mate with each other and bear fertile offspring. Generally the offspring bear the racial traits of the mother, though some traces of the father's race may also be present. It is less clear whether the Argonians and Khajiit are interfertile with both humans and elves."

So basically you could be, or be surrounded by, "half and half" mixed breeds- and it's unlikey you'd be able to tell.

They had beards, is all anyone really needs to know.

Dwemer rock because they have beards.

nords come second to Beardness.

And Beardliness is next to godliness.
