Hello from Europe, should I buy Brink?

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 4:05 pm

(I'm only interested in the Brink PC version)

I've read the reviews, I've seen enough YouTube videos.
But maybe I could get a more honest opinion here because the reviews are really, well.. Some say this, some say that. Some doesn't mention this and that, what do I know.

I'm enjoying the fact that this is a team based game, +1 point there.
I'm enjoying the fact that it has such great deep character customization, 1+.

But I do read alot of comments about latency issiues, problems and problems. But one unique thing about the Internet is that there is alot of [censored]ing and whining about things then put out of proportions.
But hey, maybe Brink is a awful game that I should run away from?!

You tell me, I just want some personal comments here from you guys that already have the game.

The reviews Brink have been getting are ALL from the xbox version which is buggy...

I am playing on the PC and the game has no problems, and only 1 bug, which is the map without sound.

The game itself is plenty of fun, and I think everyone who like teamwork and shooters will like the game - especially for the PC

The game is a lot of fun and grows on you more and more. The negative reviews tend to be about the 360 version which seems to have bigger problems. The PC version has already been patched once fixing some of the main issues people have had.

When you first start playing you will probably have a few bad games where things seem very imbalanced and your guns seem useless etc but you'll quickly work out the quirks.

I've been playing for a few days now and really the only thing left that annoys me is how catastrophically dumb the majority of people playing are (medics never reviving, soldiers never resupplying, people deathmatching and ignoring the objectives etc). This should get better as time goes on.

Thank you wtfhax and Raff for your comments!

I'm all about playing my role to the fullest and go for the objectives because in the end, that is most fun for me.
I've heard that there is no way to view kill per death ratio as you play? If this is true, that is one nice move to be honest.
That could make some people less fixated sitting in a corner just to shoot people down and nothing more.

Hm, is there any way to make friends in this game and bring everyone together to play together in the same game?

Yes the approach to ingame stats is really nice, all it shows is a point score, no K/D.

The PC version uses Steam (no matter where you buy it) so you can use Steam friends list/groups etc, or just set up your own server with your friends.

I'd say read the Destructoid review of Brink, it's exactly like that. It's a great game BUT..., the gameplay is nice BUT.., and so on and so on.
I love the game, the gameplay is rock solid but you can't look past some flaws which make this game a bit less than being totally awesome, now it's just 75% awesome.

I'm really loving the game so far. It's just a bit hard to find a populated server.

I was really loving the character customization and I did one single player campaign before I went online and then... downhill fast!

Online the gameplay is broken somehow, just laggy and choppy. Can't play like this and it was even on a server in my small country.
Some guy on the server told me there was a problem with ATI, so what is the next step?
Because I do have ATI HD 5870, so I guess I'm stuck with this problem?

Where can I read about that?

I'm really upset I've spend money on a game that lag this much when I can play Crysis 2 on high settings and StarCraft 2 on ultra settings with very high frame rates.
I think my frame rates is about 8-24 when I play this Brink!

Hope so because now the game just lays there on the "shelf" as one of their producer told in a interview you would normally do with other games, you play thru campaign and put it on the shelf but this game is on the shelf after 2 hours of horriable horriable gameplay, sad.

Brink is a good game, but it has some really annoying flaws. If your purchasing it just to play solo, I wouldn't recommend it. But if you have a group of friends who also are planning on buying brink, you should definetly get it.

I went with Yes, but I do hope... category

I really enjoy it, but there are definitely some areas that they need to add to. Currently I would rate it as a 7.5 or 8/10.

An easier team mechanic would be nice. ie) Lobbies

The single player campaign is short, but it's a nice intro to the maps and as a quasi-tutorial to get you use to game play.

Also, it's heavily objective/team based (which I like a lot). So, if you come from a shooter/fps type back ground it may take some getting use to.

What I mean by this is that you are "rewarded" for doing things other than just killing off the other team (although that never hurts). For example, you can get xp for simply defending locations or escorting individuals. Also, all the classes have a "buff" skill, so it kind of weeds out the lone wolf type player.

Just my .02.

should you buy Brink?
if you enjoy FPS multiplayer that requires skills: Halo, Unreal, Quake
if you enjoy team tactical and team player FPS multiplayer: Battlefield, Killzone 3,

then get this game!

if you think you wanna run n gun or cam like COD, then you shouldn't buy this game.

You should read all my replies in this topic to see the big picture now.
I did bought it but there something very wrong with the online part and it's not on my side as I can play Crysis 2 on very high settings and other online games fluid.

But online part of this game is far from fluid, it's choppy, lagging all the time (not latency) but graphical lag.

i hate to say this but at moment i wouldnt, my friend has brought it before i could talk to him and i think hes going to get so annoyed with the pointless ai ill be surprised if it survies the night.

graphics and sound are fine, but when your knocked down for 2000 time trying to do an objective and you look around and find the ai in a totaly different place for no reason other than being useless it grinds on you.

If you like pc shooters and enjoy what you read about it pre release then get it. I've had no lag issues online, and I've put some serious hours in since release. Yes the single player is lame, but both multiplayer modes(vs and coop) are a lot of fun.
