Hello from the Xbox Forums! We love Brink!

Post » Sat May 14, 2011 4:04 pm

Hello! We're CoyAndChris, Xbox Ambassadors and Microsoft Community Xperts as well as longtime members/contributers of the Xbox Forums.

We love Brink and have been hanging around over at the official Xbox Forums talking about this great game over there and decided to take a stroll over to the Bethesda Forums to see what was up.

Like many other people around here from what we've seen so far, we're having some extreme lag issues (but only with Versus gameplay). Co-op runs fantastic however so we've been sticking to that for the moment. We're optimistic that Splash Damage will deliver a patch to hopefully sort out the net code issues in the near future!

So again, hello! Feel free to shoot us a message or friend request over Live if you ever feel like playing some matches sometime.

Cheers!

*Edit!!* I am not an official representative or employee of Microsoft Corp. I am only an official volunteer. :)

Why is the writing in green? It's [censored] hard to read.

It's just how we roll. We've ALWAYS posted in green italics for years and years. *shrugs* Reads just fine on our monitors!

I suppose we COULD change the shade of green if necessary. LoL

Could you answer a question i have asked in the main forum please? since posting it i haven't had a reply or even a single view and now its pushed back onto the second page =(

''Are the Control layouts optimized for remapping? I will be playing the 360 version of Brink on Monday (I'm currently away in London) so i can only pick up my copy and wait until then. But by remapping i mean the following.

Would i be allowed to change LB (S.M.A.R.T/Sprint) to LS (Revive self etc) reversing the roles of each action to the individual button? because even though i haven't played Brink yet i can imagine how much of an improvement it would make to me, i prefer to have movement mechanics under the thumb rather then bumper controls and i couldn't really see any problem myself with this change (If possible)''

Thanks for any infomation on this.

Yes! Everything is fully mappable. I did the exact thing you are talking about. I like having the sprint/S.M.A.R.T. Button as the LS as well. You can change everything to the way you want it.

I actually haven't had that much lag. Some games there is a lot, other games there are none. I just search till I find one without lag. It is a lot of fun.

I find that I really only have lag when I try to get into Versus maps. I've played mostly co-op lately because of this, but later this evening I'll give Versus another shot to see if I can find a match that isn't too bad.

And yes, as someone else pointed out, the controls are re-mappable. :)

Hey, my GT is my forum name, NewSoulSam. What's your GT? You can add me if you want. I should head on over to the xbox forums and see what's up. You're at the official xbox forums?

Nice, Thanks for that schardy..

I'm picking Brink up tomorrow and this was almost certainly going to be on my mind. it wouldn't bother me if that option wasn't available as adapting comes natural to me so it's nice to know my playstyle is catered for.

Can i ask how you are finding Brink so far? i have seen most reviews and tbh i don't pay much attention to them, most are biased and run comparisons with games such as the CoD franchise (I have no idea why, none of them are Oil paintings either tbh) so an unbiased opinion from a straight headed Brinklet would be great.

Thanks again.

Will they put in multi player options such as a Team Death Match? I believe it would be great to just run around and shoot each other, when i researched the game I made myself believe that this type of gameplay would be in there as well, im not ragging on whats already there, but it does get a bit boring...

Hey, it's nice to see more support coming from the official xbox forums!

I've been a long time forumite there (since the release of GH2!) and been heavily involved in the music-rhythm forums.

The Brink section over at the OXforums is pretty nasty. There's lots of uninformed hate threads and general bashing of anyone who enjoys Brink.

That said, handshakes and high fives. I'm enjoying my time with Brink!

I think the game is great!! Yes, the game has some multiplayer issues, but that is to be expected as with every new release game. I am an avid COD player with 35 days played on MW2 alone. Brink brings something new to the table which I love. I have been trying to find a game that would pull me away from COD and tbh, this is the first game that has done that. I have tried many games in the past and within a few hours I was back to playing COD. This game is just different and very fun. I think this game may be my new "COD". I hope this helps. I hope you fall in love with this game like I did.

I'm a hardcoe COD fan and I love this game to all of those people out there that don't think it's possible.

I too contracted the CoD virus, playing that and Battlefield was my thing for some time, until i wanted a change and thats when Homefront was released which cured me of the virus but after a while HF got tedious and i was longing for a fresh breath of air, so knowing Brink was around the corner got me excited lol.

MP Issues/Lag? ... It don't bother me, not for a newly released title in the first stages of global integration anyways, its to be expected in my opinion. Texture pop ins/Glitches again nothing that makes me s**t the bed in anger... I'm a Gears vet so it goes un noticed with me lol

Youtube played a major part for me with Brink, I'm addicted to watching other people complete the Parkour challenges and compete online, the game mechanics from what i have seen look fluid and seemless, people who know how to use Parkour to there full advantage can really show someone sitting on the fence about Brinks mechanics, which to some people is more important.

Thanks again for the Insight =)

That's usually the case. People either love it or hate it. It's been our standard though for years so we couldn't imagine parting with it, just like our Panda gamerpic & signature. LoL

I'm about to hop on Brink right now (Xbox 360) so if you see us online feel free to say hello! :)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they are upgrading them at the moment.

To be honest though, there are a LOT of haters and trolls hanging out around there. LoL I try to ignore them as much as possible. :)

THANK YOU!!!! the lag is killing me!!! I think this game is fun but the lag just kills it for me in any game. Many games have fallen victim to this and should know by now, that if you release a game have enough servers or a great patch on the ready. No one wants a game to come out, spend 60 bucks then wait to weeks for it to be fixed so they can actually pay, Ill just return it and never buy from that company again. I am not a huge fan of, but Halo and COD never have these problems and that is probably why they are so successful, just saying.

Good to see this! Lag is an issue, but I seldom come across it because once I get in a good game it takes a good long time to win!

I respectfully disagree with you. Every game has its own share of problems on release and throughout its life cycle. The issue you're running into here is the fact that Brink is fresh on the market, those games are not. People tend to forget/ignore that every game has its bugs/glitches which need to be sorted out.

Let's take Halo: Reach for example.

"Invasion went live today for Bungie's Halo Reach beta bringing with it multi-objective team gameplay with a few interesting twists and lots of lag."

-Kotaku

Now I realize they're only speaking about the Beta, but even if you google "Halo Lag" you'll receive almost 7 million results (There is even an eHow article about "How to reduce lag in Halo 3". LoL!). The same action can be done with Call of Duty to achieve similar results.

The Call of Duty games have their own share of problems combatting modders/cheaters/glitchers/etc. I doubt those fools will flock to Brink to ruin our day and bestow upon us negative 8 million experience points when we accidentally join a "modded lobby" for the pure and simple reason that Brink doesn't really have leaderboards/Kill Death ratios/etc for them to boost through to show off to their "homies".

Sorry for the wall of text. The TL:DR version? Every game has problems. I'm sure Splash Damage will keep up the great work and continue to support us. :)

*Update* The Xbox forums are back up now (kind of). Ugh, I hate the new layout. LoL Also, there are no game specific forums at the moment. This is going to take major time to get adjusted to. /facepalm

The COD and Halo series have lag issues just like every other game when they are first released.
