Hello Snipers - question

Post » Sat Jun 29, 2013 11:58 pm

I can see what's in the wiki, but in practice, which gun is better to use in the ideal, unseen, sniping situation?

1) Fully modded sniper rifle

2) Christine's CoS silencer rifle

3) Gobi Campaign scout rifle

What are the reasons?

I use either Christine's or a modded sniper rifle, because they have suppressors.

Grrr. the link's all messed up

this page has a chart for comparison- http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Christine%27s_CoS_silencer_rifle

for one shot killes of DCs, none od the above.

distance has a more improtance than having having a silencer.

why not add a fully moded hunting rifle to the list. anyway none of the above for me. i like the fully moded laser rifle for weaker sniping. i guess i am saying the weapons mention are about equal.

As weapon mods, yes.

I start with standard, then Gobi, then Christines for silent killing. But when it absolutely positively has to die with a single shot, the Anti-Materiel Rifle comes into play. Believe it or not, sneak attack critical headhsot with explosive ammo it can kill even Ulysses in one shot  Legendary Bloatfly and X-42 are too tough

The only thing I don't like about the A-M Rifle is the ammo. Very hard to find. Ten minutes in OWB and I'd be out of ammo, whereas I've got over 1,000 .308 ammo (got a lot in HH).

Personally, I use the Gauss Rifle, but then again, my character is set up for energy weapons.

Pfft.

If your going to snipe, do it right.

Do it with .50 caliber rounds of head splitting glory.

Yes, that is why i use it only on exceptionally though enemies; Sentry Bots, Deathclaws, and Robo-scorpion 3b models (i think it was ).

But when i use guns i always increase repair skill too so i can make ammo myself.

188 and the Arsenal stock it every 3 days. It seems that if you buy, they make more to meet demand. So, buy them out if you can afford it.

Note, the Explosive Rounds, nice for taking out groups of Deathclaws. Get the suppressor mod, only on the GRA version of the AM, and you can blow them up from afar and not be detected.

I took care of the Quarry from next to the Khans Camp one time without moving and 4 Explosive Rounds. OK, I got lucky with the spawns being where I could herd them where I wanted. But still, both Momma and Papa went down with one shot. Then the babies and 4 others on the next shot when they gathered to mourn. The next 4 came in late to the party but were met with a couple of favors. So, 4 shots to clean out the Quarry.

Has not happened since. :stare:

None of the above. I find a Hunting Rifle to be just as good, if not better than a Sniper Rifle, especially once you put a scope on it. While the Sniper Rifle has a higher DPS value than a Hunting Rifle, suggesting a faster fire rate, the Hunting Rifle does more damage on a single shot, which is how you'll mainly being using a sniper based weapon anyway. The Hunting Rifle also has a much higher health value and it's much easier to find replacements in order to keep it repaired. And the Hunting Rifle in fact has a better minimum spread rate than the Sniper Rifle, .01 as opposed to .02, so if your Guns skill is high enough it's going to be more accurate. I personally don't see the point in using a Sniper Rifle frankly, overall the Hunting Rifle is much better and easier to come by.

Hadn't thought about maxing out the first shot like that. Your right if that's all I'm using it for that would be better, and sniper rifles are hard to find. I'll have to get a scope on mine and try that.

When i want max damage for the first shot, i use the AMR. In fact i prefer the non-GRA AMR since it has damage increase mod (from the WMX mod) instead of the suppressor.

When i need to not be noticed at the first shot i use a silenced sniper rifle.
