they need to put more work on it before they release it.

Bethesda wouldn't let them. In case if you didn't notice, Obsidian is a lot smaller than Bethesda, they don't have the vast amount of resources Bethesda has, this is an unfamiliar game engine, they only had a year and a half of developement, etc.

That makes no sense why wouldnt bethesda give them some of their people to help work on it. And why would bethesda want to rush their own games they are making. It seems kinda stupid.

Easy. Quick cash injection. The game had to be released before the holidays to maximize profits. If they delayed it the next year, they would have had two of their own games competing with each other, which hurts profits. Another year, and the game would have been so dated that people would cricize its old engine and its dated graphics, thus hurting profits more.

Yah money it will do crazy things. But its gonna get them in the long run if they keep on doing that.

Guess what killed Interplay. Exact same reasons. Bethesda is going down the same road.

New Vegas is Bethesda's plan for quick cash. It is riding piggy-back on the success of Fallout 3 (whether you like it or not is irrelevant, FO3 was a commercial success), I don't agree with the idea that Vegas is better as it isn't. You can see the time that has been put in with Fallout 3, I still traverse the wastes finding easter eggs and new locations however in Vegas they shoved a linear story in a open world game. They didn't have the time to create a world as incredible as they would have wanted, not their fault but the time constraints put upon them.

I've got back to FO3 because New Vegas is missing atmosphere and pretty much the world for me. The story in New Vegas is great however you cannot keep repeating it as you are shoved down the same sequence of events each time making it incredibly repetitive. Yes I do like the hardcoe mode in NV and I dearly wish it was in FO3 as with the iron sights (I'm a console user) but what the game brings to the table doesn't warrant it receiving the accolade as the better game.

So as an Elder Scrolls fan FO3 would seem great as it is a world and framework you will be more or less used to and you can role play well within it without the need to follow quests. There are plentiful things to see and do in the wastes without ever having to pick up quests but the same can't be said for Vegas.
That said if you love FO3 then I would go onto NV.

As for companions I wouldn't go for any, they are an annoyance in Fallout 3. Of course you will want to experience the game so go right ahead. The dog is a nice companion for RPing.

Hey guys, tgl1992 here from the Elder Scrolls forums. Obviously you can see I am an TES fan  and that was the only game series I ever played for a while. Now I wanted to expand my horizons and tried the Fallout series, so I got Fallout 3. :fallout: Boy do I LOVE that game, and I cannot wait to get New Vegas! I may get the 1st two Fallouts since I saw them being sold at Best Buy  Anyway, I just want to say kudos to the fans for all the hype that got me to play this cool game and kudos to Bethesda for making an awsome game! So now I need to save money for New Vegas AND Skyrim :woot:

Hmmmmm, I am not the one to make off topic threads so I'll start a small discussion: Who is your favorite companion in Fallout 3?

I do believe I only had one companion in F3, that being Fawkes. He was practically Godlike imo. And since you plan on playing FNV, I will assure you, there are seemingly a handful more potential companions than there are in F3. (I wont mention names yet, so when you do start playing FNV, perhaps I will see you on those forums and we can re-discuss companions... :foodndrink:

i was playing oblivion when FO3 came out and since FO3 is pretty much like oblivion i love FO3, it does have some flaws like too many skill points and too many perks, but for exploration and combat its pretty good, as far as companions, i use most of em throughout the game, i like clover the best though then butch. charon is good for early in the game cause you can get him for free as soon as you get to underworld, jericho is good early on you just need to get 1000 caps.

As for my favorite companion its Jericho . if i travel with him and hee starts complaining about a smoke i mostly stop and take his helm out of his inventory so that hee can have his nicotine boost. and he can be such a crybaby sometimes

As for Jericho,s voiceover i think its absolutly perfect

Oh, I wouldn't think of it. He's my stalwart sidekick, and I mourn deeply his each and every death. Or at least, I swear and reload.

... Butch. I gave him a leather armor (can't stand the sight of heavier armors, and my companions are modded to be essential, so no harm done there), shades, a sniper rifle and a chinese assault rifle. Now I can't stop drooling about him. He is hot. Also I like his lines. He's more awesome than I expected. And I don't know what to make of this, because I really loathed him during the char gen/tutorial.

If I can't have him (because i am not far enough along the main quests), I'd take Jericho or the robot. Getting called a kid all the time and listening to the standard "die, you commie!" type of lines tends to get a bit old after a while though.

Fawkes? No way.

I've always preferred Clover, but the behavior of all the vanilla companions are the same - in combat, run off to kill stuff and die in the process.
Now, I make my own companions with AI packages and scripts to keep them from doing the kamikaze thing.

The reason I stopped playing Oblivion was the crashing over 10 times per session with only OOO, Attribute-Based and Skill-Based Damage Modifiers, and a dozen of minor mods that didn't seem like they would conflict. It got to the point where I couldn't enjoy new mods because I would have to playtest them rather than enjoy them. The dungeons became pointless and I knew what was inside by the name of the dungeon. I stayed away from the main quest because the story was always the same.

I know that eventually I will feel the call of Oblivion again. But now I see that the world of FO3 is so much greater than Cyrodil and much deadlier when FWE is added. Exploration revealed detailed stories of the lives of people days away from the holocaust, all in schedules, logs, equipment manifests, audio tapes, reports, etc, and wider range and quantity of placed objects and skeletons. FO3 also has an unspoken feature that sets up ambushes or changes the type of creatures so that a quickload would frequently result in unexpected situations, this is apart from the random encounters.

But I can't tear myself away any time soon to go back to swords and magic. It might sound unpleasant, but I wish that Bethesda would fire Obsidian, dance and pee on Black Isle's tombstone, cancel skyrim, and transfer the rest of the budget to FO4. They could make a few million by selling TES to EA or Lionhead and they can do skyrim.
