Hello...

Hey guys, tgl1992 here from the Elder Scrolls forums. Obviously you can see I am an TES fan  and that was the only game series I ever played for a while. Now I wanted to expand my horizons and tried the Fallout series, so I got Fallout 3. :fallout: Boy do I LOVE that game, and I cannot wait to get New Vegas! I may get the 1st two Fallouts since I saw them being sold at Best Buy  Anyway, I just want to say kudos to the fans for all the hype that got me to play this cool game and kudos to Bethesda for making an awsome game! So now I need to save money for New Vegas AND Skyrim :woot:

Hmmmmm, I am not the one to make off topic threads so I'll start a small discussion: Who is your favorite companion in Fallout 3?

Who is your favorite companion in Fallout 3?

I didn't use companions for the longest time, opting to use stealthy characters until now. As such, companions are not helpful in that regard. I just started a new melee character and am having fun bringing Dogmeat around, he's pretty useful.

Personally, I despise Fallout 3's companions, they are very doltish in the head. Then theres Fawkes, who is essentially a kill stealer. But I make it a point to take Dogmeat and take him to V101. Charon is a neat guy, however, as I said, Companion AI is foolish.

I always have Dogmeat with me. I go get him as soon as I'm able to buy a hunting rifle and make it up to his location.

In past playthroughs I have used both Fawkes and RL-3, but in the vanilla game, they get to be such overpowered tanks (as does Dogmeat, but I'm willing to live with just one tank) after you've leveled up some that I stopped using them. They are useful as pack mules, though, if nothing else.

On my current game I have a mod that remakes Clover, but I haven't recruited her yet. I may go get her after I finish up Mothership Zeta, which is where I'm currently at.

EDIT - removed Dogmeat location spoiler.

Well I just made my newest character 2 days ago, he is an african american named Dudley , I did a few WLSG quests then did mothership zeta and the early MQ, i'm level 8 with 80 in energy weapons, science and medicine. i dontt have any companions, (I always wanted Rl-3. how do i get him?) my character wears winterized medic armour and the very overpowered alien weapons. i don't know wer to go exploring first, i was thinking the white house.

If you haven't, I would try looking into getting the other Fallouts (other than Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, avoid like the bubonic plague). The first three (1, 2, and Tactics) are not Bethesda games, but games made by Interplay's now dead Black Isle Studios and Micro Forte, and are a drastically different experience. Best of all you can find them for only $20. Also, there is Fallout: New Vegas which was made by Obsidian, which pays a lot of homage to Fallout 1 and 2.

Personally, I don't like Fallout 3, but as you can see there's a lot of people that do (arguably more than us cranky nostalgic fans).

It's a fantastic game series that really just breaks the mold of typical RPGs.

Oh and be sure to check the mods if you're on PC, they really do enhance the game experience.

For some reason I don't really like most of the Fallout 3 companions, I generally like the New Vegas ones better.

Well, that's because the companions of Fallout 3 were more of an afterthought. The PC is called the Lone Wanderer, because that's what he was intended to be originally. NV and Fallout 2's companions were generally better.

The mechanics of companions in FO3 are rubbish, but putting that aside: Charon, easily Charon, for uncomplainingly lugging my Fat-Man around for me. My very own ghoul manservant.

Jericho, definitely.

He might not be the most powerful (that's probably Fawkes) but he is the most amusing. I love his attitude and comments.

Glad to here people are still enjoying FO3. My recommendation for you is to purchase Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics in a bundle which can be found at Interplay.com before you try NV. And as great of a game as NV was, be prepared for some disappointment depending whether your the exploring type or story type.

Fawkes was made overpowered because he's the only companion who you HAVE to do a bunch of story quests to get, other than Cross, but she just svcks. And you can glitch your way into the citadel anyway, i think

Well, she is the LONE Wanderer after all, so I don't really like any kill stealers companions. Though I have been kind of wanting to get Dogmeat whhen I reach level 22 and get the puppies perk...

I remeber that same feeling when I first started playing

and I cannot wait to get New Vegas!

Prepare for (possible) disapointment.

If you're going to buy Fallout: New Vegas at all wait until after you get Skyrim, so you save money. Atleast that's what my friend's gonna do.

Generally Charon, (especially in my playthrough where I impersonated Herbert Daring Dashwood, good times :gun: :gun: )

I also really like Jericho...

Yes just like in NV.

This.

I can't stop Boone from hitting people with his rifle, and Rex just keeps running into a wall. They're even dumber than Charon, Dogmeat, or Jericho on a bad day.

Lol at first sentence because it can be true. Yah they could have put more thought into making the companion AI.

They were using the AI that Bethesda has given them, and because they were obviously rushed they couldn't spend the time it would take to make new AI. Funny how it always circles...
