[REQ] Helm PoV Covers.

Post » Sun Sep 12, 2010 4:38 am

I've been doing searches for this, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. There was one MOD for Oblivion that, when a helm such as a hood was equipped, changed the first person view to have a black mesh in front of your face or something to make it seem like you were really wearing a hood, and it obstructed your view in first person a bit, just like a real hood. I thought this was extremely immersive and would love to see it in Fallout 3.

If I can find the Oblivion MOD, I'll link it or draw something to help further elaborate on what I mean, if most people don't get it.

I thought someone had put out a demo of a HUD mod they were doing for powered armor...I guess they never put their money where their mouse was.

And yeah I remember something like that a long time ago. Guess it never came out?

Yes! That's the MOD indeed! Thank you for finding it.

This is what I would like to see in Fallout 3.

Quick bump before bed. I'm sure this could be done, maybe even by myself, dono.

I don't know of a mod for hats or helmets, but there's a mod for sunglasses and reading glasses; http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9558. Not what you're looking for, but it'll probably add to it.

You're right, that's not what I'm looking for. Although that MOD is still pretty cool.

Actually, it wasn't even made. It was just an example of how it should look.

Ah I see. Well that's a shame...

I still believe what I suggested would help immersion quite a bit, I'm not sure where to start with this myself, but if no one is interested I could try to give it a shot.

Given that making the actual images for the PoV covers wouldn't be hard for me to do at all, all I would need to know is how the Oblivion modder implemented them so I could replicate it myself.

That'd be lovely - I believe STALKER had visor effects, with breathing and everything, and it was an incredibly immersive effect.

Maybe in the scripts? I remember seeing something about that in TESCS when I was asking for this sort of thing a while back.

XMS added a small mesh into the player skeleton nif just in front of the camera node, and had it textured using a NiFlipController. Then he switched between the different textures on the FlipController with idles. I don't know if we actually have the ability to do that yet, as when I've tried fiddling with skeletons in other ways they'd often crash on load even with the blocks and links properly ordered.

My earlier version actually had a helm/mask effect that I did strictly my using image modifiers, that blurred the edges of your vision. I removed the feature from my mod when one of the helmets was causing lockups, but I may try do add this back in again, now that I know what helmet was causing the problem.

I'm guessing that what you are looking for is similar to this binocular mod, though without the zoom (or having it adjustable) and with less obstruction.

Yeah, something like that, but shaped so it resembles the helms you equip.

I was juuust about to make a thread requesting a mod like this. But I'm looking for a mod that would add little HUD elements like readouts and reticles while wearing a BoS helmet.

That would rule.

Yes, it would, although it would be much harder to make. I would still be happy with just overlays.

Well, DUI has a lot of information available, it'd be neat if without a power helmet on, you had no/superminial gui, and a full one with one on.
