Helmet Voice for Guards; replacing sound files? Help Please

Post » Sat Jan 07, 2017 3:18 pm

Hi, and thanks for checking this thread.

I tried finding an existing thread but couldn't find a specific answer to my question. Hopefully we can figure this out - I'd really like to share this mod with the community and I think a lot of people would like it.

I'm trying to make the guard NPC's in Skyrim actually sound like they are wearing a helmet when they speak.

TL,DR

- I am trying to replace the maleguard voice files with modded files. I have every step complete except for getting the files to successfully replace the vanilla sound files.

Details

- extracted 1,060 sound files using Fallout Mod Manager

- converted the .fuz files to .xma then to .wma

- used Audacity to apply my desired effects on the 1,060 files

- just need to learn how to replace the vanilla files with my modded files

Questions

- do my modded file names have to be exactly the same as the vanilla files? right now they all have "-2" at the end of their names.

- I tried just dropping the files into my Skyrim Directory (Skyrim/Data/Sound/Voice/Skyrim.esm) but that didn't work. is there somewhere else i should place them?

- do I need to re-convert everything to .fuz before it will work? or can i just keep everything in .wma format?

Thanks in advance for any advice or help you can spare. I appreciate it immensely! I will definitely shoot you some credit when I make this available on the Nexus.

~**UPDATE - SOLVED**~

- I changed the file names so that they match exactly with the vanilla file names

- I used Unfuzer to re-fuz the 1,060 files

- I placed those files into my Skyrim directory

- after some troubleshooting, I renamed my master file within the Skyrim directory to "MaleGuard" and voila! it works!

- The only thing I need to do now is to find and convert the deeper sounding guard's voice files (the default maleguard files only includes the higher pitched guard voice) so that I can mod those too and cover all the guard voice files.

- I also need to find the female version for guard dialogue and convert those files for modding as well.

- Any information as to where those files are could expedite the process, so thanks in advance!

I've gone ahead and released a version of this mod on the Nexus if anyone is interested in downloading it and trying it out. Immersion!

I don't have permission to link it so I can only give you the title to search:

Yes.

Fuze or wave is the most reliable there is a bug where they won't play on occasion if they're in .xwm. WMA won't play to my knowledge.

They need to mirror the folder they're in in the BSA. Fuze is compressed so takes up much less space than .wav

If you havn't already you need VFRT (Voice File Recognition Tool) for Skyrim. It contains all the dialogue used in Skyrim as well as the filenames that they're contained in. Then you can look up voice file types/lines.

Not all guard voices are MaleGuard some are MaleNordCommander iirc
