I acquired this item a short time ago, and I really like the dark, Doctor Doom looks of it. Unfortunately, it svcks as armor. I mean, I get a 3x higher AR wearing nothing at all but undies, a leather chest piece, and metal arm and leg pieces.

I'm wondering though if the helmet and hood ever come in separate pieces, so you can wear them with decent armor? Anybody know?

You can get spike armor, and you can get helmeted spike armor. The non-helmeted spike armor can be worn with whatever helmet you'd like, but no other armor aside from the helmet can be worn in addition to it. The spike armor helmet can't be found by itself as far as I know.

You should know though that in general, the full outfit armor pales in comparison to the component armor that you can put together.

Full armors are for the looks, layered are for stats.

And I think the cage armor is the better version of that set.

Sadly the helmet is not separate, well once console moding comes around Ill just pick up one of those mods that expand what gear can be upgraded with ballistic weave and just do that to the armour.
