HELP! antivirus Screwed up my OMODOblivion ini!

Post » Mon Sep 30, 2013 8:05 am

OMG! I started up Oblivion mod manager today and when i went to start oblivion stupid f***ing avast antivirus detected oblivion or oblivion mod manager as some kind of threat all of a sudden after I’ve been playing for well over two months now. And now whenever I try to open OMM I get a message that says:

" Oblivion mod manager must be installed to oblivions base directory. If you have removed or renamed 'oblivion_defalt.ini' please replace it".

I assumed that means avast deleted my Oblivion_defalt.ini but I checked my directory and its still there and avast has no record of deleting it.I also have wyrebash installed and now it won't even start up. Can anyone help me? I can't lose two months’ worth of progress!

Possibly oblivion.esm is missing. The last time something like that happened to me I had a Windows Journal error and ran check disk which restored something not related to Oblivion, so I reinstalled. you can at least check for Oblivion ESM and reinstall if it is gone (back up Data and stuff). Frankly if your hard drive is corrupt you need to run chk disk from C drive properties/tools, and think about re-installing Windows. If it has been a a while since your last clean Windows system install you may be due. I just did mine and my computer is rocking. All that is a pain to get my data and apps going again, but its nice to have things work as expected

I checked and it looks like you're right, looks like avast deleted my oblivion.esm file cause I dont see it. I was thinking of doing a fresh install (it's been about a year) of windows sine i decided to put crapy windows 8 on my desktop but was holding off for two reasons.

my computer is dual-booted with linux

I wasn't sure if it was possible to transfer or backup sava data with 80+ mods installed

i can get around the first issue but is there a way to transfer all my save data with all my mods insstalled? or better yet, is it possible to somehow reinstall just the esm?
