Help! Bravil Recommendation. Wasted my beguile scroll!

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:21 pm

Second time playing through the game, this time on xbox. I am trying to get through the Mages guild recommendations and I got stuck. I'm low level, I think level 4. In Bravil, you get a beguile scroll from Kud-Ei to use on Varon Varmori. Well I missed! I was casting and he walked away wasting my only beguile scroll. Where can I get another beguile scroll? Can you buy them from someone. I tried buying a charm spell and it doesn't work. PLEASE HELP!!

Use speechcraft and bribe him...or go to Mystic Emporium/Discount Spells in the Imperial City Market, they may have some charm spells or scrolls, aswell as the Mages Guilds you can buy some Charm spells.

I tried to use speechcraft and it says his disposition is maxed. Well, then if its maxed why doesn't he tell me what I need to know?

Because by maxed it means it is as high as you can get by persuasion alone. you will need to bribe him until his disposition is high enough (IIRC 70 or up)

Because you need it higher. It is only maxed for your current personality level.

The best thing to do is probably simply buy a charm spell and use it. If you can't cast a good enough spell you can just practice our hire a trainer to help you. Or you can try to find another charm spell at a magic shop, like Mystic Emporium.

Can't you just steal the staff from him? If you go to the basemant, it is in a container down there. Though getting in can be a little tough.

Steal the staff, or pesude and spell him.
If you persude him to your max while your weapon is drawn, then exit and sheath your sword it bumps up disposition another ten points over max.

You can't steal the staff from Varon Varmori -- the person the OP is talking to. Varon doesn't have it. And you can't find out who does unless he tells you, or you stumble upon it, or you learn it outside the game.

Personally, I never use the scroll. It's worth more than it costs to bribe Varon, so I bribe him and sell the scroll.

Even without the scroll to sell, I'd still just go ahead and bribe him.

I take advantage of a quirk with the way dispositions and Speechcraft work to get his high enough if I do this quest early in the game. Since my Speechcraft at low levels will usually not let me get him higher than the low 60s and I tend to not have much money, I make sure my weapon is drawn prior to talking to him. This automatically lowers his disposition by 10 points, so after I Speech him up to the low 60s I end the conversation, sheathe my weapon, then start the conversation again, and he will automatically regain the 10 points the drawn weapon removed, bumping him over 70 and enabling the topic. Yeah, it's kind of cheap, but it always works and lets me save the bribe money for better uses.

This also comes in handy with Volanaro in Bruma, since he needs to be at 70 or better to enable the J'Skar topic for that recommendation.
