Help! Caius thinks I killed Raesa Pullia

Post » Tue Dec 30, 2014 7:01 am

Because I'm part of the Imperial Legion I needed a uniform to talk to Raesa. Instead of searching for one I killed her (with console), took her uniform, and then resurrected her (with console) to get the quest information. Long after I saved I discovered this triggers Caius's "WHAT! Raesa Pullia is dead and YOU WERE RESPONSIBLE? [this path to your destiny is blocked]" script. Unfortunately I realized this long after saving. Is there any way to fix this (deleting that script, for example) ?

Welcome to the forum! :banana:

No I don't think so, but scripts isn't my good side.

I suggest that you start over the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Sixth_House_Base quest in Cauis's house in Balmora and once you have restarted the quest then buy an Imperial armor or loot a bandit cave type this "player->additem imperial_chain_cuirass 1" without quotes in the console before talking to Raesa Pullia.

However, your issue sounds like a faction quest bug to me, unless you're using a mod that somehow affect Raesa Pullia. Are you using mods? If so then post your loadorder here, so other people can assist you.

It's a result of the dialogue itself, not a script. You get that message if Raesa dies. Doesn't matter if you resurrected her, the game checks if she has died. There might be a console command to reset her dead counter, but I'm not sure.

Dialogue isn't controlled by scripts. At least, not in the way you're thinking of. They are, at heart, a message, and can change based on circumstances. In this instance, you get that message if you've reached the quest that requires her, AND she's dead. To delete that "script," you need to modify that specific dialogue choice. And there's no way to do that without opening the game's editor.

You can sidestep the issue with Caius Cosades, but it mean you will lose a little of the mission briefing with him. Open the console and type:

Journal "A2_2_6thHouse" 5

player->AddItem "Gold_001" 400

"dagoth gares"->Enable

This is the update you would receive if you had not toggled Raesa Pullia's death flag. If you speak with him again on the topic 'orders' Caius Cosades will restate his order to go to Fort Buckmoth to speak with Raesa Pullia. If you select the topic 'Sixth House base' you will get most of the mission briefing's information.

From this point forward Raesa Pullia's 'death' is not likely to be an issue, but should block you in the future post here again and we will find a solution for you.

Do you know if the issue the OP has is a faction quest or a quest dialogue bug?

Thank you for all the responses and help! I found a satisfactory way to sidestep the issue. I started the CS and loaded up the Morrowind datafile. Under NPC's I found Caius. I unchecked 'blocked' and went into his dialogue options. The "Raesa is dead" line is the result of Raesa dying at all. The easiest fix was to remove the "setdisposition 0" and "goodbye" lines from the result box. Now Caius will still great me with the "raesa is dead bla bla bla", but I will still have a good disposition with him and I won't be forced to exit the dialogue box.

@platyodes: While your solution will work, it does leave a little mess in its wake. You have made changes that could lead to conflicts with other mods. I suppose you can unplug your 'patch' after it has served its purpose.

Another approach would be to clean your save of the toggled flag for Raesa Pullia.

@Leonardo: The problem was not a bug in either the master file or a mod. It is an official entry that prevents the player from following the expected path of the main quest if he/she kills an essential character. But to answer your question, it is a quest dialogue entry under the topic 'orders'.

Hmm... I didn't think of the repercussions of my plugin :ooo: . How would I go about resetting the toggled flag as you suggest?

You can clean your save with the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes3Mod:Enchanted_Editor or perhaps http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes3Mod:Wrye_Mash. I do not know if http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes3Mod:Tes3cmd will edit saved game files.

Using the Enchanted Editor you can open your save (after changing directories) and view the Player Kill List. Find the entry for Raesa Pullia and click on the delete tag for her name and count. Save as a different file just to be safe.
