Help me choose my next character

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 10:37 am

I am currently playing a Khajiit Wizard skilled in Conjuration / Destruction / Restoration / Alteration / Enchanting. I do aim do complete as many side quests as possible and explore everything I can with this first character, but as far as main quests are concerned, I intend to only complete the return of Alduin, the Civil War on the Empire's side, and the College of Winterhold. I want to reserve the Sormcloaks, Companions, Thieves' Guild and Dark Brotherhood for other playthroughs. Right now, I am considering three different characters for said next campaign, and I'd like some input from others who played similar builds and how they liked it in order to help me choose which one to go with.

Orc Weapon Master
One-Handed
Heavy Armor
Block
Smithing
Enchanting

Basically, a master fighter and blacksmith. Tough and reliable. Nothing really special, but I've been told warriors in Skyrim are pretty fun.

Imperial Ranger
Archery
Two-Handed
Light Armor
Sneak
Alchemy

The Aragorn build. Should fight primarily from afar and stay stealthy for critical hits, but be capable of charging in the fray with a claymore for some melee fun or if surprised.

Bosmer Arcane Archer
Archery
Light Armor
Conjuration
Illusion
Restoration

An Arcane Archer who relies on a Bound Bow for combat and who uses Illusion magic to complement non perked sneaking. Other Illusion spells and Conjuration minions should keep targets busy.

The Arcane Archer is pretty much what I want to try out next, Conjuration is by far my favourite skill in the game and it's incredibly fun, haven't tried out Illusion though yet but it also seems like it can be a right laugh.

So I guess I'd vote go for Bosmer one!

My vote is for the Bosmer as well, but replace illusion with a less overpowered school like alteration. Although wouldn't a High-elf / Breton be better suited for an arcane archer? Unless you have a roleplaying reason for choosing the Bosmer of course.

Your first two builds would be insanely overpowered by midgame which would make the game dull.

The whopping +50 magic points bonus and Highborn power for Altmer is a must-have for any mage. The Breton Magic resistance is handy as well, but has more limited use.
