Help me choose a side in the civil war.

Post » Tue Sep 24, 2013 12:58 am

Then your best bet is remaining neutral. This petty conflict is below the Dragonborn. Your responsibility is defeating Alduin. A problem that both sides of the war ignorantly ignore. The actual end of times. Let the Civil War play out. You don't need to join a side. You're practically a Demi-God. They should be bending to you.

....And as for "The Elder Council is in the pocket of the Thalmor! See here in this book that predates the Great War!"

First off... as I stated in the paraphrase, it's predating the Great War by quite a bit. Since then, the Dominion Army has burned the Colovian countryside and r(sixual violation)ed the Imperial City itself. The Dominion made it quite clear their intent by that time. Any Imperial-aligned politician that deals with the Thalmor is either trying to make the best out of a [SEHT]ty situation or is an idiot like Jarl Siddgeir, and probably isn't popular with the people thanks to their dealings.

The Imperial Legion itself is stocked with politician-disliking top brass that are still sore over the previous Great War. Like General Tullius, Legates Rikke and Fasendil. I doubt they'd follow the command of toady Councilors if the [SEHT] looked ready to hit the fan.

Erikur and Maven would like a word with you. And Maven gets power if you support the Empire :icecream:

Erikur falls into the latter category of "idiot". Just talk to his sister or listen to a conversation he has with his mage. Maven falls into the former category.

And the Silverbloods get power in Markarth if you support the Stormcloaks, so what's your point?

You're on a videogame forum where the population is largely male. Its natural.

At least the Silver-bloods don't support the Thalmor, plus the Silver-bloods actually plan to do something about the Forsworn since Thongvor says he will petition Ulfric to send an army to help stop the Forsworn and if the SC win the CW, you ambient dialogue shows that Thongvor has indeed begun writing his petition.

I don't know what everyone was complaining about, I am enjoying this conversation more than most I see on here. Granted, I've never paid much attention to civil war threads before so a lot of this is new to me.

If you don't know which side to join, then join neither at all.

Neutral option will most likely be canon anyway.

Yeah... he plans to antagonize them even more to stock his dear brother's prison mine with more laborers. Will he do anything to stop his brother sending out "Hired mercs" to "help protect" other mines from Forsworn attacks?

Don't think for a second that Jarl Thongvor is any less corrupt than Jarl Maven.

And if you get down to it, both sides "support" the Thalmor. The Empire by grudgingly having to comply with the WGC, and the Stormcloaks because they wound Ulfric up and let him off like a wind-up toy.

Well I can't speak for the others but I'm not complaining. I just can't understand how people could stay undecided for that long.

What if I told you... most Empire aligned characters in the game don't actually support the Thalmor?

Tullius, Rikke, Hadvar, Legate Fasendil and your generic Imperial npc as well. All of them have dialogue that shows it.

Except for my first playthrough, that is what I have always done. Now I want to choose a side. it is probably the most difficult decision I've ever made in a game. Or not made, rather.

CW threads get really hostile really quick, are often filled with Opinionated non-factual "proof", with everyone saying "Nope, your wrong Im right" and refusing to read or Acknowledge the others points...

and in all Honesty, we are al getting really tied of it...

Correct me if im wrong ColonelKillaBee, but i get the feeling even you are getting tired of all the CW arguments...

its just beating a dead horse at this point... its beating a dead horse thats been dead so long its decomposed into a pile of dirt... Its like beating a dead pile of dirt!

It is a hard choice for me. I see things I like and dislike in equal measure for both sides. With this character I actually wanted to take a stance on the issue.

Yes, I sigh every time I see one, but only because I know I can't stay out of them, lol. Regardless though, I'm not complaining she made another. I just am surprised she's undecided still.

Many NPCs say Ulfric does nothing when a Dunmer or non-Nord is attacked. Plus the Dunmer have asked for help and he ignores them. He seems like a racist to me.

If I believed that he was not racist, and that the Stormcloaks could actually take the fight to the Thalmor and win, I would choose them.

Consider that the man is at war and that Nords don't give handouts. And that he is not their Jarl. Don't you think it could be that he doesn't help because they don't help him with the war by contributing soldiers? Nords however do. So he has something to gain out of helping Nord caravans, if that statement is true.

It seems harsh, but it is hardly an automatic sign of racism.

edit: Nords don't give handouts usually. I'm still surprised they gave the Dunmer Solstheim and free housing in the city. Especially because of their history.

Yet what would he do if the Dunmer created an armed force to protect themselves in the Grey Quarter? Stormcloaks would be there immediately to stop it. The Dunmer are left with no options. And I love me some Dunmer.

To be fair, it really isn't their fight. Nor is Talos their god. Heck, they way they get treated alone is enough to keep them away from joining IMO.
