Help me choose a side in the civil war.

Post » Mon Sep 23, 2013 9:54 pm

On my first playthrough I chose the Stormcloaks, but then I realized Ulfric was a racist, bigoted fool Ulfric is, so I regretted it.

But I also can't stand that the Empire banned Talos worship and caved in to the Aldmeri Dominion. The Mede Dynasty is weak, and only came to power because of the ambitions of a corrupt warlord. I have a hard time supporting them as well.

My current character is a Nord Dragonborn. She wouldn't take kindly to the Empire telling her who to worship, nor would she abide Ulfric's racism and intolerance. Such a hard choice.

Part of me thinks that any Empire is bad, and that nations should govern themselves. No Empire, no Thalmor. Choosing the stormcloaks would help in that goal, but there is the Ulfric problem.

I know this has been done to death, but I would like to hear your thoughts if you'd care to share them. If not, and you are (understandably) sick of this topic, please just ignore the thread and don't hijack it with complaining.

Thanks.

Can you search topics that is related to what your asking? Choosing which side only leads to debates, therefore derailed threads. IT IS a very sensitive topic.

I Would like to point out that these sort of threads usually end up being Flame wars by the end of them. Word of warning.

The Entire point is that Both sides have a good point and a bad point. It is a very Grey area.

Which aspect of Talos do you adhere more to....

Tiber Septim, or Wulfharth?

you don't seem to have the facts completely straight...

The Emperor only Signed the WGC to give time for the Legion to rebuild itself (Legion was pretty much destroyed at "The Battle of the Red Ring"), once they regained their strength they were going to bring the assault back to the Dominion, but then Ulfric started a CW in Skyrim, so the forces that should be preparing for the Second Great war are instead being shipped up to Skyrim to help Maintain the peace.. I believe Tullius confirms this if i recall correctly...
and once the war started up again, I assure you the Altar of Talos would return to its rightful place in the Temple of the Divines...

Anyone, this thread is gonna turn hostile really fast,

so as someone who is "Mostly" Neutral (although, I do lean slightly towards the Empire), my advice if you can't decide is "Flip a Coin".. I have done this on many occassions in game where I can't make a decision...

Can you point to a source that shows the Empire was going to actually attack the Aldmeri Dominion once it was rebuilt? I never read that before.

Tullius outright states that they really, really, want to and that they are planning to.

It's been nearly two years. If you don't know which side to take by now, turn off your system.

Man, we had a nice time without these. So peaceful.

Have your character talk to the various NPC's around Skyrim, heck, even the Solitude Sawmill. Get the "vibe" of a city, as well as the Jarl's.

I agree. Especially with all these past threads.

There's plenty of evidence to suggest that the Elder Council works on behalf of the Thalmor, too. That they only put a Mede on the throne because he'd be easy to control. For wanting to provide "clear facts" you're sure leaving out some.

For once Colonel, you and I are of equal mind in a CW thread.

and what evidence is that? Also, i would like to point out Titus Mede II wielded GOLDBRAND into battle to get back the imperial City, GOLBRAND. They also slaughtered all thalmor who were in the imperial city.

This is why these threads are not healthy for this forum and i do agree with the it's been two years thing.

You'll need to quote it. I ctrl F'd the page and there's nothing referencing Thalmor or the Elder Council.

Yeah, these kinds of threads only go in one direction, but hey, I'll contribute anyways.

My advice, OP, is to try and think OUTSIDE of whether you prefer Ulfric or Tullius.

Focus on your character's values - pick which side lines up with them better - and understand that often you have to suffer unsavory people to make progress.

Now that being said, SKYRIM BELONGS TO THE NORDS!!!!!!

;)

Also, the Colonel makes a good point

Book does not equal canon. It was not official ES lore, which means it is not true canon

Read the actual book. I ordered it and once I read it I'll be making a megathread with page number references.

If you're roleplaying, how about going with the mindset of "you don't know anything", investigate a bit in game about the political situation, read some books, ask around, some people might give you insight on their point of view on the situation based on their experiences. Talk to the leaders. Make a whole playthrough of you exploring what side to take based on the information you gathered in-game.
